Toph Bei Fong is the ancestor to Sakura Kinomoto. The one that was originally supposed to be the cardcaptor by Clow Reed.
Then it stands to reason that others that existed during Sakura's era would have ancestors in Toph's era running around just like she is.
Syaoran Li's ancestor and the Clow Reed descendants of the current era were still a powerful family even back then. In fact, they might have been even more powerful and influential than the Li family of Sakura's time.
Of the reason for this is that Syaoran's ancestors were the royal family of the Fire Nation. To be more specific Ozai's side of the family was Clow Reed's descendants. It was not something they made public though as magic was something that they kept in the family only. Even Ursa was not aware that her husband nor one of the kids was taught how to use their magical abilities along with their bending.
No one in the family thought much of their magical abilities as they prefer the bending much better anyways as it was far easy to use and less situational as well. Since they could not use magic out in the open as it was widely known it existed outside those that were able to do it.
Thus the quest of the family was originally to find the Clow Book and recover the Clow Cards as they were seen as belonging to them being the descendants of its creator.
When Sozin started his war against the war a second mission was added to finding the avatar. The one person they wanted to kill was the only Air Nomad they managed to let get away somehow.
Thus when it came to Zuko and his loss of honor. He was given the mission of finding the avatar to restore it however he was also given the mission of recovering the Clow Book as well. Getting either of them would allow him to return home and regain his lost honor.
This was basically seen as him being exiled from the Fire Nation for good as they were both seen as an impossible task that no one has completed with the recovery of the Clow Book seemingly like the even more impossible task of the two.
The avatar had only been missing for a hundred years. The Clow Book had been missing since the death of its creator or shortly afterward according to the history of the family.
Zuko was on his ship with his uncle Iroh. Searching endlessly for the Avatar when he felt something that was like a huge release of magic all of sudden then it vanished just as quickly as it appeared.
"Could be after all these years that it was finally discovered" Iroh said
"Finally the Clow Book seemed to have resurfaced at last" Zuko said
"This leaves the question of what will you do," Iroh asked
"Find the book, recover the Clow Cards, and finally regain my honor" Zuko declares.
"Of course however how will you go about doing that as the book seems to be within the Earth Kingdom given the direction the power came from," his uncle told him
That was true as the book belonging to their ancestor seemed to be in the very kingdom the Fire Nation have been at war with for well over a hundred years now
"This is the first good lead I have gotten for either of my missions. Getting them will take priority over the Avatar for the moment" Zuko said.
"Then we should be using this ship then as it possible that the book was opened but the cards escaped it," Iroh told him
"Why would they escape the book as that is where they are supposed to be stored after all," his nephew said.
"What our ancestor planned for when the book resurfaced or was found was never made known to the family or maybe the one that open the book could not control the cards themselves," his uncle told him.
This annoyed Zuko as they could not just sit back and wait for the Earth Kingdom to be conquered. It also would not be possible to get to the areas where the cards possibly escaped to.
Staying in that area would probably be required so getting revealed as the Fire Nation Prince and his uncle would be a worse case scenario if the cards need to be returned to the Clow Book.
Thus Fire Nation Prince Zuko and Dragon of the West Iroh decided they would be going undercover into the Earth Kingdom. The objective was to discover if the Clow Cards had indeed escaped from their book and required capturing once again.
Zuko's ship was sent back home to inform them of what happened if they were not already aware of it somehow themselves.
Range did not seem to matter as it was something everyone with magic that knew about the book and the cards would notice.
"Zuko do you understand that we are going to be undercover here so we can not go around using our firebending in a manner that would get us caught," Iroh tells him.
"Of course, though I been wondering just how effective and useful all their magic lesson I was put through would come in handy" Zuko replies.
'You do excel at magic far better than bending. Too bad that our family has been focused on the latter rather than the former Iroh thought.
"Anyway while we are undercover I'm Mushi," Iroh says
"I got it and I'm supposed to be Lee," Zuko says "Though I am shocked you managed to get us into the Earth Kingdom so easily"
"I am not revealing how and nor are you to ever tell anyone about it either, Lee," Mushi says
"We will not need this method once the Clow Cards have been recovered" Lee replies
Mushi sighed as he knew it would be like this but maybe this was a good thing for him. Searching for the avatar non stop was doing him any good. It was possible that having to live as Lee might help him cope with everything that happened that day.
"So what story are you going with about how you got your scar? You can not go with the actual way you got it" Mushi asked.
"Of course, I can as I merely say my father give it to me. That is not lying it just not revealing everything. After all, father did give me this scar I just leave out the how and why parts" Lee tells him
