Previously on Dragon Ball Aftermath: Rewrite
Zateus has begun explaining his backstory, but Daishinkan cuts in, revealing a big secret to everybody. In the beginning, Omni King Daishinkan would've created nineteen angels, including Zateus, who would soon become the first Grand Priest.
After training with Whis for billions of years, he returns to his master, but Daishinkan has other plans. He temporarily strips Zateus of his powers, leaving him mortal, and sends him to watch over a particular planet of mortals with great potential. There, he meets Omesus and dedicates himself to be his servant. However, tragedy strikes, and the first Frost Demon, known as Qube, pays a visit to his playthings.
Chapter Thirty-Five
[Music: Two Steps From Hell - Rising Force (Choir)]
Zateus creates a fake staff out of energy and points it toward Qube. "It doesn't matter what I am, but you will not be harming innocent lifeforms."
The Frost Demon smiles, slowly walking forward. "You speak of these lifeforms like you're above them. You might be above these monkeys, but nobody is above me."
He takes one step and flickers forward, swinging a kick. Zateus blocks the attack, the ground shattering beneath them. Qube backflips and raises his finger, using Telekinesis to launch massive rocks toward the god.
Zateus swings his staff, sending an arc of energy that slices right through the rocks, causing them to explode into pieces. The Frost Demon growls and vanishes behind him, going to elbow him.
The angel spins around and deflects his attack, hitting him with thousands of palm strikes that immobilize him. "Wh... What the hell are those techniques?!"
Qube is about to fall to one knee but uses all of his willpower to keep himself up. "I will never kneel to you. I will show you who you're messing with!"
He glows and roars, his aura exploding. Zateus jumps back instinctively, as the creature transforms, gaining more spikes and a mask. It would be a step above the Fifth Form. He grins before charging forward, the ground breaking with each step.
He grows two more arms and goes to grab the god, but he'd already be gone. Zateus flies above him and closes his eyes, before immediately opening them. Qube sweats and immediately falls to his knees, feeling a lot of pressure both physically and mentally.
The Frost Demon's vision turns black and white, and he sees a pair of red eyes glaring down at him. Zateus floats down to the ground, glaring at him. "You are now in my Judgement Lock. Cease your violence."
Immediately, Zateus grunts and falls to the ground, holding his head as the attack dissipates. "My mortal body can't... handle this attack very well. This is bad..."
Qube looks up at him, panting. "Mortal... body...? I knew it... You aren't like any of us, are you? You're some sort of deity!"
He flies up, the light from the sun shining on his back. "I suspected I wasn't created from nothing. There are higher beings that watch us... How annoying. Perhaps I should claim my rightful place as king."
He looks up at the sky, before raising a finger and charging a massive death ball. "Be gone, you pitiful worms." He launches it, before flying away from the planet and out of the star system.
The gravity of the attack affects the landscape, as cracks spread throughout the ground, breaking it apart. Many Saiyans scream, trying to flee while some braver ones launch their attacks to try and stop it, to no avail.
Omesus watches in shock before he clenches his fists. Zateus gets up, holding his head as he sees it rapidly approaching. "This is bad..."
Out of nowhere, Omesus roars, and his hair spikes up, a pillar of energy shooting up from him. His hair turns green as he enters a Legendary form. The other Saiyans watch in awe at their ruler's transformation.
He flies toward the blast, bringing back a fist. "RAHHH!" He punches the death ball with full force, a massive shockwave shooting out as the attack disperses into energy. Zateus watches, his jaw dropped. "This is... the potential of a mortal?"
Omesus looks down toward them, his figure blocking out the sun. "FOR SAIYANS!" He lets out one last battle cry, and the rest of the Saiyans cheer loudly for their ruler. He smirks in satisfaction before he pauses and his eyes close, falling toward the ground.
Right before he lands, Zateus shoots forward at blinding speeds, catching him. Omesus powers down, peacefully sleeping. The god smiles, before carrying him back toward the village.
"I'm impressed, young one," he mutters under his breath. "When you're older, you could perhaps become a great ally for the gods. But you need a lot of training before so. For both body, mind... and grammar."
Later, the Saiyans would have a feast in celebration of their victory and (seemingly) getting rid of Qube for good. Zateus sits down, munching on cooked meat since he now has hunger to worry about, being mortal and all.
Omesus's nose twitches and he opens his eyes, the smell of food having woken him up. He sits up and grunts, his entire body aching. Zateus walks over and helps him up, but he waves him off.
The Saiyan gets up, stretching. "I defeat monster, but body hurt."
Zateus sighs. "Om-... My king, you mustn't push yourself. You've unlocked an amazing power."
Omesus looks up at him, before crossing his arms and pouting. "You lie to I! You isn't Saiyan, but higher being! I should execute you!"
The god smiles at his reaction. The ruler is just a kid, after all. "Execute me?"
The Saiyan glances at him, before looking away. "You get off with warn, but never lie no more. You are servant."
"I understand, my king," Zateus says, offering him a stick of meat. Reluctantly, Omesus takes it and chows down on it. After he is finished, he belches and pats his stomach, feeling satisfied. "I have reque- I mean... order!"
He raises a fist in the air, smirking. "You train me to become strong than you! If tell anyone, I kill you." Zateus ponders this for a moment, before sighing. "Very well, my king. It will be a long process, but I have a feeling you'll do well."
The next morning, Zateus takes Omesus away from the village, the latter having appointed one of his strongest guards to keep watch. They stand in the middle of a barren wasteland across from each other.
The Saiyan raises his fists, grinning. "What is first step? Sacrifice? Murder?"
Zateus chuckles. "No, King Omesus. We won't be doing any of that today." He flickers and Omesus feels a blow to his cheek, grunting. "What?!"
"Your stance is wide open," the god says, flickering around him. "Simply raising your fists will not work. You're open from the side and the back."
He vanishes behind the Saiyan and places a finger on his head. Omesus wouldn't be able to move. "That impossible!"
The god corrects his stance, sliding his right foot back and pulling his left shoulder forward. "With this, you'll have an easier time reacting to attacks from any direction."
He flickers again and Omesus glances to the left, before leaping back and avoiding a quick punch from Zateus. "Very good. A refined stance can change the tide of a battle."
The Saiyan backflips before yelling and entering his Wrathful form. He leaps forward and rapidly barrages him with punches, but he easily dodges all of them. "Your technique is sloppy. That transformation seems to be affecting your emotions negatively too."
From that point forward, Zateus would mentor Omesus day after day, seeing improvement in his fighting style, techniques, and power. Saiyans would be fast learners, after all.
For two years, this training continues. Omesus would've been twelve-years-old before the training, but now he would be fourteen.
Omesus yells, bringing back his fist and covering it in energy. He flies toward a giant rock hurtling toward him, smashing it into pieces. He glances to the right and sees Zateus launching three more at him with his telekinetic abilities.
The Saiyan closes his eyes and slides his foot back, thrusting his palm out and shattering the rock. He launches an energy beam to destroy the second, and watches as the final one careens toward him.
Right before it hits him, he flares up his aura, it alone being powerful enough to destroy the rock. He takes a deep breath and hovers down to the ground. He'd have gotten taller and would have much more muscle definition.
Zateus walks over to him, smiling. "Well done, my king. Your training has been a success and you show no signs of reaching your potential."
Omesus scoffs. "I told you to stop calling me king. You can call me Omesus, remember?" His grammar would've drastically improved over time. "I guess soon you're going to leave?"
The god walks over and places a hand on his shoulder. "Unfortunately, yes. Soon I will need to serve the Omni King for eternity. I am proud of you, though."
The Saiyan smiles, before clearing his throat. "This is getting awkward. I guess this is goodbye?"
Zateus nods, before starting to walk away. "You will likely never see me again, but I've enjoyed our time together. You're like a little brother to me."
Omesus pauses before he clenches his fists. Zateus stops, feeling something is off. He turns around to see his student tearing up and crying. "Omesus? Was it something I said?"
The Saiyan quickly wipes his tears away. "It's nothing." He'd have had no family growing up. His parents abandoned him soon after he was born, and he had no siblings. When Zateus considered him a little brother, he'd never been happier.
Zateus smiles. "I'll try to visit you at least once every twenty years, but I'm not sure if Daishinkan would allow that. He is very strict. Farewell, Omesus."
He transforms before the Saiyan's very eyes. His hair turns white and his skin turns blue. He transforms into a full angel. A pillar of light consumes Zateus, and he leaves the planet in an instant, leaving Omesus alone.
A pillar of light hits the floor in the palace and Zateus gets up, approaching the Omni King and kneeling. "Father, I am at your service."
Daishinkan glances toward him. "Yes, I got your message and granted you your powers back. I want a full report of everything these 'Saiyans' have done."
"I've actually mentored a child warrior for the two years I've been there," the angel replies, and Daishinkan squints. "You mentored a young child and taught him the techniques of the angels?"
Zateus nods. "Yes, my lord. He has great potential, and my mentorship has greatly benefited him. He's grown kind with my influence." He would expect his father to be proud, but he wasn't.
Daishinkan steps down in front of him. "Zateus, you can never make connections with mortals. Their time is limited, and teaching them our combative techniques? That is unacceptable."
The angel's heart drops when he hears this. "But father, I was only trying to help the mortals develop."
"Just as you helped the Frost Demons?" The Omni King replies, confusing Zateus. "What do you mean, my lord?"
"I've seen what you did to that particular planet," Daishinkan says, showing a hologram of Zateus years ago.
A smile curled on Zateus's lips as he stopped in the middle of space. "Before I return, I should give some lifeforms a helping hand and accelerate their evolution." He landed on a random planet in universe seven and tapped his staff, with a glow enveloping the entire area.
He flew off, leaving the lifeforms to evolve over time.
Zateus's eyes widen. "No... That was the reason Qube was so powerful..."
Daishinkan sighs and walks back up to his throne, sitting down on it. "Because of your impatience, you've accelerated the evolution of this species tenfold. I've watched you during the first attack with this so-called 'Qube'. No mortal should be that powerful."
Zateus bows his head, feeling an emotion no other angel has felt for the first time: Guilt. "I apologize, father. I did not realize my actions would've caused an issue like that."
"You are on thin ice right now, Zateus," Daishinkan says, "but I suppose I am partially to blame as well. I did not realize these lifeforms would eventually be a threat to even us angels. That is why... we need beings of great power to monitor the mortals."
"But, my lord," Zateus begins, "aren't us angels more than enough to keep these beings in check?"
"That is what I thought initially, but that is no longer true," Daishinkan explains, getting up. "I've diluted my power enough by creating my guards and my children, so I'm afraid I will weaken if I create these destroyers myself."
He waves his staff, revealing a hologram of a planet of purple catlike anthropomorphic beings. "One of these warriors will become the first destroyer. They have excellent energy control and composure. They are also intelligent."
Zateus scrunches his eyebrows. "What about the Saiyans, my lord? Yes, they are more rash and barbaric, but they have potential even greater than those warriors. Omesus could perhaps be the destroyer inste-"
Daishinkan taps his staff, making the angel flinch. "I will not debate this with you anymore, Zateus. The Saiyans have potential, yes, but they aren't developed enough to handle the task. They've made brash decisions that could cause chaos in the universes if they took on the role of the god of destruction."
Zateus frowns but doesn't reply, only bows. "I sense a being with extraordinary potential compared to the rest of them; a child. I want you to take the little one away from home and to Whis."
The angel bites his tongue, infuriated that he would think to kidnap a random child to serve the gods, but he would bow again. "It will be done, my lord." He walks away, clenching his staff and teleporting to this planet.
He lands, seeing a large population of these catlike beings. He would sense the child close by and walk forward, looking around. Some people notice him and would be confused by his appearance.
He locks eyes with a young child who looks at him in confusion. "What are you?"
"I was sent by the Omni King to retrieve you, young one," Zateus replies, feeling sorry for having to do this. "You will be trained for your life to become the first God of Destruction of Universe Seven."
The child just blinks, before turning around. "Mom, this strange creature wants to kidnap me!"
A lady walks over, having short hair. She glares at the angel, pushing her son behind her. "Be gone, you demon! Leave my child be!" Her yelling would attract the attention of the other sphinx cats and they walk over, forming a crowd.
"This is not my decision to make," Zateus replies, tapping his staff and teleporting the child next to him. "He will still be able to visit you, but he will be trained to be the strongest in the universe."
Suddenly, three warriors launch toward him, rapidly barraging him with precise attacks. He still dodges all of them, impressed. "I can see why Daishinkan chose this particular planet."
The mother of the child yells and runs at full speed, spinning around and swinging a kick. The angel blocks it with ease, squinting. "Calm down. This is not my decision to make."
"As if we could believe a monster like you!" One of the warriors yells, launching a massive beam of energy that Zateus swipes away into the sky. "You cannot take the child prodigy!"
Zydis watches on, shocked that this powerful being is taking on this planet's guardians with no issue. The god grabs one of them, spins around, and throws them into a building. "That is enough. I will be taking this child now. You will reunite with him later on."
He closes his eyes, tapping his staff, as he hears the child's mother crying out for him, saying a name Zateus didn't catch. They zoom across outer space, with the child panicking. "W-What's happening?! I wanna go home!"
The child cries and Zateus feels guilty for doing this. "I'm sorry, little one, but this is what my father wants. ... What's your name?"
The kid sniffles and looks up at him. "Z... Zydis... Everybody says I'm... a prodigy..."
Zateus nods, before kneeling and placing a hand on the kid's shoulder. "Worry not, Zydis. I'll make sure you can visit your mother when you aren't training."
Zydis looks up at him before he weakly smiles. "Thanks... You have a lot of explaining to do though, mister."
Shortly after, they land on Whis's planet and Zydis walks forward, looking around. "This place is... weird. And boring."
"What brings you here, Zateus?" They hear a voice behind them as they turn around to see Whis walking up to them, smiling. "And who is this adorable little prince?"
"This one's name is Zydis, the one that father wanted me to retrieve," Zateus explains. "He will be your student."
Whis nods. "Ah, our new God of Destruction." He turns toward Zydis and smiles, who nervously backs up. "Worry not, child. I will not harm you."
The child hesitates, then nervously nods. "Okay... This man said I can visit my mom when I'm not training."
The angel turns toward Zateus, raising an eyebrow. "My, Zateus, you've grown soft. You've allowed Zydis this much freedom?"
Zateus scratches the back of his head. "Yes, I wanted to... comfort him. Omesus has rubbed off on me and vice versa. Please don't tell Daishinkan about that."
"Worry not, Zateus," Whis says, winking. "I won't say a thing." He turns toward Zydis. "Are you hungry, little one?"
In response, the child's stomach growls and he blushes, embarrassed. "Yeah, I haven't eaten all day. Mom and I are poor so we have one meal a day if we're lucky."
The angel frowns at this. "Well, worry not, Zydis. You will not go hungry here. Shall we begin your first lesson?"
He nods in response and follows Whis away, Zateus following close behind. Whis places his hands behind his back. "I want to see how you can fight, Zydis. Do not hold back against me."
Zydis's eyes widen. "But... every time I've done that, I've hurt somebody! I don't wanna hurt anybody."
"You must attack me with your full strength," Whis insists. "Do not worry about me. Pretend I'm somebody you envy."
The child looks down at the ground, remembering being pushed around by a bully who is also royalty, chastising him just because he is poor. They pushed him around and even with his potential, couldn't fight them or he and his mother would be executed. Others were too afraid to help him, despite their respect for him.
He clenches his fists and yells, a white glowing aura enveloping him. He flies forward, going to maul the angel. Whis dodges out of the way as he slams his fists into the ground, shattering it and sending debris everywhere.
Zateus watches, smiling, as Zydis chases Whis around, barraging him with all he's got. He raises his hands and charges an energy ball, flinging it toward the angel. His eyes widen when he's realized what he's done. "Watch out, mister-!"
The angel grins, simply flicking it back toward him, and he'd barely be able to dodge. His jaw drops, as he stares at Whis. "You... you are amazing!"
"Why, thank you, young one," the angel replies, walking toward him. "I must say, you're quite powerful for your age. Given the right training, you could become quite the powerful God of Destruction. You must be starving. I'll have a full meal prepared just for you."
Zateus watches them leave and sighs, closing his eyes. "This is going to be a long ten billion years as Grand Priest."
After he leaves, Zateus would be officially promoted to Grand Priest. He serves his lord for eighteen years, occasionally checking in on his siblings as they are also tasked to train their respective gods of destruction.
When he has time to himself, (which is rare), he visits Omesus and Zydis to check up on them and grows closer to them. One day, however, he encounters a unique figure.
Zateus opens his eyes, as he and Daishinkan feel an intense energy radiating from Universe Nineteen. The Omni King gets up, nodding toward Zateus. "Investigate the signature."
The Grand Priest bows, before he teleports to Universe Nineteen to where the source is. He would be there just in time to see a planet explode, with a glowing figure floating in the middle of its destruction.
He cautiously approaches it, seeing a young child with spiky white hair and a red aura. "Another child with power...? Third time's the charm." He vanishes in front of the child, clenching his staff. "Young one, who are you?"
The figure looks up at him with cold eyes, before smiling. "I made this planet go boom. I saw everybody scream in terror right before I incinerated all of them, and I liked it." He giggles and Zateus's eyes widen. This child's a psychopath!
Suddenly, the child leaps forward at speeds Zateus can barely keep up with, shocking him. It leaps around him at insane speeds, kicking him from all sides. "That's impossible... How can a mere child fight on par with me?!"
The figure backflips and launches arcs of strange red lightning that cause rips in space-time. He barely avoids the attacks, grunting. "What's your name, young one?"
The child's smile fades. "I don't have a name. I lived somewhere far away from here until one day, I was zapped into this plane of existence. I can't remember where I came from."
Zateus relaxes a bit, taking a deep breath. "I see. I can't allow you to roam freely without constant supervision. Perhaps father was right in not trusting mortals."
The figure grins. "Mortal? I'm no mortal. Don't you dare address me as such. I don't know what I am, but I am far above your level, you insect."
The angel's face remains expressionless, not believing their words. "I will monitor you. If I tell the Omni King about your existence, he will destroy you most likely. I will take care of you."
He hovers up to the child, placing a hand on their head. "I will name you... Qhuteus. I will adopt you and make you my own."
