DISCLAIMER: I don't own anything here, I read a fluffy NejiXtenten fic and wanted to write one myself.

Hyuga Neji stood outside of his house, staring at the light blue sky, facing away from the sun so that he wouldn't have to squint, and watched some birds flying. He wished so much that he could be free like them, and fly away like them. Tragedy, fear and hate had ran through his veins and family since before he could remember, all of the friction in between the main and branch families. He could remember when Hiashi-sama had seen his father, as he watched Hinata-sama train, and accused him of intention to kill, and done...something...to make his father fall to the floor in pain. He could remember how tears of fear had escaped his eyes as he'd shouted, "To-san!"

And he'd always hated Hiashi-sama for it. He'd never truly forgiven him. Then on that day when he had fought Naruto...he had learned the truth. Neji hated that he'd been lied to his entire life but at least he knew now. His father had died because he'd wanted to: his father had defied destiny.

"Neji-kun?"

The boy spun around to look at the sweet voice who had called his name and saw it was the kunoichi on his team. Tenten.

"Tenten," Neji said. "What are you doing here?"

"I just wanted to know if you wanted to train," Tenten said. She took another long look at Neji and said, "Hey, what's wrong? You look a little angry."

"No, I'm not angry. I was just thinking," Neji told her. "And no, I don't want to train today. I guess that might be surprising."

"I guess...what were you thinking about?" Tenten pressed. As much as it shocked her that Neji didn't want to train, she wanted to know what went through his mind even more.

"My father...and destiny...and such. The birds."

Tenten looked at the ground in respect and sympathy at the mention of Neji's father but she looked up again when he said 'the birds.'

"The birds?" she laughed. "What about them?"

Neji turned away and looked back up at the sky. "How I wish I could fly like them. I wish I could just be free like them."

"You can be. Neji." Tenten had stepped closer to him, so that she was whispering in his ear.

The boy blushed slightly but he couldn't say he didn't like her closeness. He'd liked Tenten since soon after they'd been put on the same team.

"How, Tenten?" he asked. "I'm a human. I don't care what anyone says, it's not possible for humans to fly like birds."

"Oh, don't say that," Tenten said. "I'll help you." She smiled at him, slightly flirtatiously.

Neji blinked, turning to look at her. "N-Nani?" he asked.

Tenten only smiled back at him, stood up on her tiptoes to reach him, and gently pressed her lips against his, closing her eyes. Neji stared into the distance in shock for a moment before closing his lavender colored eyes and kissing her back.

They kissed gently for however long it was that they did, because time seemed to hold it's breath.

'I wanted to fly so you gave me your wings,' Neji thought as he looked at her beautiful dark features, a slight red from her blushing. 'And time held it's breath so I could see.'

He realized he was seeing better than the Byakugan could ever allow him. His thoughts continued, but only for a moment.

'Arigatou, Tenten.'

The line 'I wanted to fly so you gave me your wings and time held it's breath so I could see' is a quote from the song 'You Set Me Free' by Michelle Branch. While I was writing this that line came to me and I thought it fit perfectly. So I used it. Oh, and don't disappoint the little button, I don't care if you did or didn't like it, please review! I'll even reply, I promise.
