Roses

I slowly turned around

And walked towards your body.

I scooped it up, holding it tightly.

I opened the door,

Everyone else following behind,

And walked down the sidewalk,

Thinking,

Just thinking,

Leaving rose-colored drops behind me,

Dotting the virgin snow.

The others hold back.

Remember the roses?

I walked to the end of the street,

Then put my back to a lamp pole,

Sliding down until I was sitting.

The roses in the garden,

When I was there to help you walk.

I held you like a baby,

Looking up at the near-full moon,

And howled,

Expressing all my emotions in that

One,

Sweet

Howl.

The roses matched the blood.

I heldyour body close,

Praying that it was just a nightmare,

Sobbing when I knew it wasn't.

I sat like that until I felt I couldn't anymore,

Remembering the times we had,

Remembering the wildblood roses,

Matching your hair,

Dotting the tame yellow,

Matching mine.

Like the blood spilt

On the white snow.

I got up and walked back tomy friends.

She asks if I'm okay.

No, I don't think I'll be okay for a while

But I'm ready to go back.

We all ready to leave,

I last of all,

Still holding you close as we sail off

On dragon's wings,

Into the moonlight,

Remembering the roses.
