Trigger Warnings: Graphic description of underage male giving birth

Toothcup

It was a cold morning in the village of Berk, the sun having risen not long ago over the snow-covered island. At the top of the town in the chief's house, a very pregnant Hiccup is sleeping peacefully on his bed. Instead of his old wooden one though, this one was much larger and had a base made of metal with piles of wool, fur and shed scales from Fannar, the human's loving dragon mate. It had taken quite a bit of convincing to get Stoick to allow the Night Fury to stay in the house with Hiccup, with the chief being the one on the receiving end of several lectures from both his son and old friend Gobber.

A sudden series of thumps from the roof woke Hiccup with a small snort and groan, the human pulling the blanket over his head with a muffled protest. When the thumps didn't stop and got more impatient, Hiccup groaned again and threw the covers off, calling out to the source of the thumping that he was up. A few minutes later with much grumbling about impatient reptiles, Hiccup was out the door in his winter clothes that had been adjusted to cover his pregnant belly.

Fannar jumped down from the roof to meet him as soon as he walked outside, and Hiccup couldn't help but smile as he saw his mate despite being forced out of bed. "Well, good morning Mr. Bossy."

"Morning, my little mate!" Fanar said, wiggling happily. Hiccup stepped forwards, arms outstretched to hug and nuzzle into his mate's neck, but his metal leg gave out when it landed on a patch of ice. As expected, this caused the human to slip and fall, but only for about two seconds as the dragon was already under him, his large and broad head helping Hiccup get back to his feet.

"Stuipd leg." Hiccup lightly hit the fake leg onto the ground as he looked for damage before patting Fannar's head. "Thanks bud, but I think I'm ok now."

Fannar eyed his mate worriedly, knowing his human's history of clumsiness, but soon enough got a mischievous look in his eye as he reached forwards and grabbed Hiccup by the 'scruff' of his clothes, lifting him up off the ground and over onto the dragon's back.

"So you don't fall on the ice again and hurt yourself and our children." the dragon explained at Hiccup's pout, looking over his pregnant and glowing mate. The human got over it pretty quickly though, adjusting himself so he was sitting more properly on the saddle.

"I was thinking we could go on a flight this morning." The two mates smiled at each other before launching into the sky.

In the main square of the village, many vikings were out and about decorating the wooden buildings, a process made much faster now that they had the assistance of dragons to help hang things up. Gobber was on the ground along with a few others, directing said dragons on where to place the decorations while the children ran about, dressed in costumes of their favourite dragon. One such child, dressed in a Gronkle costume, ran up to Meatlug and 'growled' at her, causing her to playfully growl back. It was a nice distraction from her rider once again misgendering her.

Astrid was elsewhere with Stormfly, tossing shields into the air for the dragon to pin to the giant Snoggletog tree in the centre of the village with her spikes. Stoick was walking through the village, making sure everything was in order as they got ready for the holiday before Devastating Winter hit, and when Gobber came to join him started speaking about what their ancestors would think of them sharing all this with the dragons. When he got to the centre of town, he raised his arms to get the attention of the villagers.

"Well done! Well done, all of you! I never thought I'd live to see this day. Peace on the island of Berk. This will surely be the greatest holiday we've ever seen!" Cheers and roars rose up from the surrounding crowd of humans and dragons at the declaration, though it was cut short when a massive cloud made up of thousands of dragons were seen flying high overhead towards an unknown destination. Some of the dragons on Berk spread their wings in preparation to join them.

"It is time for us to have our young. One of us must stay here and tell our King and Queen." Meatlug said as she spread her wings as well while those that already did were taking off, headed in the same direction as the others.

"I shall stay," Stormfly declared. "I have no eggs to lay this season." Those nearby nodded to her before taking off to join the dragons while the vikings could only watch in confusion and growing fear as their new companions all left with no explanation.

Astrid looked around at the other vikings, knowing only one person could answer the question they all wanted to know, and that said person was currently missing from the crowd.

"Where's Hiccup?!"

Toothcup

Meanwhile, Hiccup and Fannar are off at the far side of the island, spinning and twirling and doing loops through the sky together, occasionally diving to the sea before jack-knifing out across the surface of the water and rising back into the sky. As they flew, the swarm of dragons that were leaving Berk flew past them, each dragon bowing their heads to Fannar and Hiccup as they passed by. While the Night Fury knew exactly what was happening, Hiccup could only watch in confusion as the flock left the island.

"Ah, it's that time of year again." Fanar said.

"What? What do you mean? It's what time of year again?" Hiccup asked, confusion clear in his voice. Instead of answering, Fannar angled them to head back to Berk, Hiccup automatically adjusting the fin to match their new trajectory.

"It will be better if we go back to Berk first so you can rest. Your scent tells me that you're tired." The dragon said as they headed back to the village. A short while later that felt longer than it actually was, the two mates flew to the centre of the village where chaos had taken hold as the vikings panicked over the dragons all leaving them. As soon as they landed, they were swarmed by people all demanding where the dragons were going and why as Hiccup was the only one able to understand dragonese.

"Hiccup! What's going on? Where are they going?" "Why did they leave?" "What's happening?!" "Will they ever come back?"

Hiccup, feeling overwhelmed and worried one of the reckless movements of the surrounding crowd might strike him accidentally, cradled his pregnant stomach protectively while waving his free arm around, trying to get the people to back off. "Wait! Stop!"

Stoick, seeing his son was getting overwhelmed and unable to get a word in edgewise, stepped forwards and started pushing everyone away from Hiccup and his dragon. "Calm down! Give him a chance to speak!" Once the vikings had quieted, the chief turned to Hiccup. "Hiccup, where are our dragons going?"

"I-I don't know, but Fannar does." Hiccup admitted, looking down at his mate, who promptly started explaining while the human translated.

"Around this time of year, female dragons will give birth to their eggs on an island about half-a-day's flight from here. It's been our tradition since before the Red Death, or as you might know the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus, forced herself into power. The island in question is a perfect habitat for dragons to lay their clutches at thanks to the natural hot-springs and plentiful amount of food in the surrounding ocean."

The vikings all turned to each other to speak about this new information, which Stormfly used to push past them to get to Hiccup and Fannar to encourage them to leave as well.

"My king, you and your mate must come with us so he may lay. It will be safer for you both there." Fannar, however, shook his head.

"I cannot. Although my mate may be carrying, he is unable to lay like a dragon can. He will need the human elder to assist him in giving birth. However, I still must do my duty as king to make sure all of the hatchlings are hatched safely." Stormfly, while downtrodden, nodded in understanding as they started making their way to the great hall, unaware that Hiccup had caught the last bit of their conversation.

'But I do need to find my mate a gift for this Snoggletog.' Fannar thought to himself.

A couple hours later, the villagers are gathered in the Great Hall complaining that Snoggletog had been ruined because the dragons had left to their unknown island to lay their eggs. Stoick raised his arms, speaking over everyone else.

"It's not ruined! We're Vikings! We've been perfectly happy celebrating without dragons for generations! And there's no reason we can't do it again! Now we don't know how long they'll be gone, but we have to have faith that they'll be back again! Am I right?" That quieted the crowd, giving them reassurance that not everything had been ruined, as well as letting them ignore a certain blacksmith that had dressed up with shiny bells and colourful balls.

Everyone slowly left the large building to return to preparing for the holiday with less pep than before, and eventually the teens wandered outside together with Hiccup still riding on his mate, hands on his back to support his large stomach. Fishlegs, meanwhile, was whistling happily as they left which made the others look at him with slight annoyance.

"What are you so happy about? Don't you miss Meatlug?" Tuffnut asked Fishlegs, exasperated, which startled the large boy.

"Me? Oh! Yeah!" He said while fake sobbing, rubbing away a non-existent tear. "I miss him so much! Well, good night!" Fishlegs quickly vacated the area, returning to his home with a pep in his step.

"When do you think he'll realise Meatlug is a female and not a male?" Fannar whispered to his mate amusedly.

"When she comes back with her babies." Hiccup whispered back, trying and failing to hide a wince when he felt a braxton hick shoot through his abdomen, making Fannar croon worriedly.

"I've got an idea! Let's come up with a bunch of new holiday traditions! You know, to bury the sadness!" Astrid announced with excitement, smiling widely which caused the twins and Snotlout to groan.

"Actually, Astrid might be onto something." Hiccup said, still working to school his expression.

"Easy for you to say. Your dragon can't go anywhere without you." Tuffnut snapped back, not noticing the glare Fannar gave him.

'I may want to do my duty but I will not leave my mate alone!' The dragon thought to himself as he left the group, taking Hiccup back home so he could get some rest.

The next morning after the dragons left was much warmer than the previous day despite all the snow and frosty air over the island, leaving the vikings to go about wearing a few less layers than the previous day. One such person is Astrid, who is walking around advertising her new drink she calls 'Yaknog', a terrible concoction of unspeakable ingredients. She has a few mugs on a shield, which she's using as a makeshift tray. When she sees the other teens, sans Hiccup and Fishlegs, she quickly makes her way over to them, excitedly holding out her new drinks.

"Hey, you guys! Try this new beverage I made for the holidays." The three present look at the offered drinks, causing Tuffnut to wrinkle his nose.

"Ugh, what's that smell? Is that you?" The male twin asked, shoving his sister away from him.

"It's Yaknog!" Astrid clarified, trying to give a puppy-eyed look that wasn't very effective.

"If I drink that Yaknog I'm going to yak nog all over the place!" Tuffnut said, still recovering from smelling the disgusting thing the first time.

"Maybe you'd rather a punch to the face?" Astrid threatened, dropping the puppy look entirely while failing to notice Snotlout swipe one of the mugs and take a drink, no doubt in another attempt to impress his crush. Instantly, he froze up, eyes wide as the concoction met his taste buds and made him register just how utterly disgusting the thing was. He froze further when Astrid looked over at him, a wide smile on her face as she waited for his verdict. Snotlout swallowed with great difficulty before answering.

"You could really taste the yak!" The stout boy saw Fishlegs walking over to join them, and when Astrid looked away Snotlout quickly signalled to him to not take the drink, mouthing 'Stay away as you may die from poison.' Fishlegs gave a discreet nod, turning and quickly scampering off to avoid the problem entirely.

Astrid also ran off a moment later to get more people to try her drink, and once she was out of sight Snotlout ran behind a rock and fell to his knees, trying and failing to not start puking his guts out from the horrible drink.

In the meantime, Astrid went off in search of a certain pregnant fishbone of a viking, finding said fishbone in the forge hard at work on something. The boy had his shin-length hair up in a bun with plaits around it, though curiously Fannar wasn't loyally by the human's side like normal. Astrid walked up to him, making sure her presence was known.

"What are you making?" She asked curiously, trying to make sure she was more friendly to the boy since she realised what a jerk she had been to him before the battle.

"Okay, you're gonna think I'm crazy, but I just couldn't stop thinking about what Tuffnut said last night. Fannar can't come and go like the other dragons, and that's just not fair. I was up all night and I think I found a way to fix that." Hiccup explained, putting the last touches on his project before holding it up for Astrid to see. It was another mechanical fin with a larger base.

"Fannar, he…he is supposed to be the King of Dragons but unable to do everything required of him since it was MY fault that he lost one of his tail fins."

"Hiccup, I think Fannar forgave you, I mean-" Astrid then points to the mating bite Fannar had given him, between his neck and right collarbone. It was barely visible under his current winter dress attire and fur cloak. "He wouldn't have given you that if he didn't. And I may not understand dragons like you Hiccup but I think he likes flying with you more than being able to fly on his own."

Hiccup just gave a dejected nod, wrinkling his nose at the sudden foul smell of Astrid's yaknog. Thankfully, she decided against trying to push one onto him after glancing at his swollen stomach.

"Well, I'm going to spread some more holiday cheer! You're amazing!" Astrid said as she ran off to push her terrible drinks on some other poor soul.

Later that afternoon, with his new project in his arms, Hiccup returns to their home to see Fannar once again jumping on the roof, no doubt attempting to get him out the house he wasn't even in. He gives a small chuckle, smiling as he waved to his mate.

"Fannar! I got something for ya!" Hiccup shouted excitedly at the dragon, who in turn just looked at him with confusion and worry.

.

"What is that? And how come you weren't at the house?"

"I was at the forge making you something. It's a new automatic tail fin that will let you fly on your own without me so you can, you know, take care of your duties as King like you spoke to Stormfly about." Hiccup explained. "And it's not fair to you to be stuck on the ground without my help either."

Fannar, very simply, was shocked and horrified at what Hiccup was telling him. It was clearly evident that his mate was blaming himself for the dragon not being able to do his duties properly, and that was something he was going to rectify as gently as he could.

"My love, I may be King of the Dragons but you are my very pregnant mate and you need me more than them right now, which Stormfly and the others understand. I do not consider being unable to fly alone a burden. In fact, it brings me great joy to be able to share such an experience with you, sharing my wings with you. It feels right, and I know you feel the same way." Fannar paused to let Hiccup mull over his words for a bit before speaking again. "I wish to give you a gift for this human tradition of yours, so for now I will accept the fin so I can go and find you something."

The dragon presented his tail, allowing Hiccup to put the auto fin on before leaning over to nuzzle the mating bite he had given Hiccup.

"I'll be back soon, but please don't do anything too stressful as you are due to give birth any day now." With that, Fannar gave Hiccup one last lick and nuzzle before turning around and taking off, starting his search for a present to give his beloved mate.

Toothcup

Three days later finds Hiccup laying in bed, idly rubbing over his pregnant stomach. He was worried about his mate, who hadn't shown hide nor scale of being back on Berk after having left days ago. Just as his worry started to morph into a mixture of anger and fear, rhythmic thumping from the roof startled him for a moment before he smiled widely, scrambling out of bed and rushing out of the house as quickly as physically possible, snowflake covered dress flowing around him as he did. He paused at the door, quickly throwing on one of his father's large cloaks before heading outside.

"Fannar! I know you'd come back- urgh…" The pregnant male groaned from a mixture of spinning around too fast, slipping on the ice and falling into the snow, and finding that it wasn't his mate on the roof but rather his father hammering some new boards onto the roof. He gave a sad sigh, deciding to just lay there in the snow for a bit since he was already there.

"Mornin' son!" Stoick shouted from his place above him, smiling at his son. "Are you and the children alright? That sounded like a painful fall, even from up here!" When the man finished hammering in the last of the boards, he jumped down from the roof, landing easily on his two feet and picking his son up out of the snow.

"Nah, it was fine. Luckily the snow is softer than usual this time of year." Hiccup couldn't help but be a bit sarcastic as he was helped to his feet, feeling over his nine-month-pregnant belly to check on his children. Using his abilities as the Vǫlva (and a bit of help from Frigg) he sensed their current wellbeing, giving a smile at finding they were still as healthy as ever. Stoick smiled as well at the silent confirmation that they were alright, though could tell something was still up.

"Is something on your mind?" Stoick asked, causing Hiccup to startle a bit before relaxing and giving a sigh, looking out over the village.

"Oh, yeah. It's just, it's been three days, dad. I thought Fannar would have been back by now."

"Didn't he say he was going to get you a gift?"

"Yeah, but I'm due any day now. I need him here, to bond with our child and I and to let me know everything will be fine. I'm just worried he won't make it back in time." He wrapped his arms around himself and his stomach, frowning as he looked over the sky as if Fannar would magically appear.

Stoick gave a knowing sigh, gently placing a hand on his son's shoulder and turning him to look at him. "Ah, listen… I know what it's like to miss someone you love this time of year. But you have Gothi and the other healers to make sure you and the children are safe when you deliver. And what do we do when our loved ones can't be here for the holiday? We celebrate them! And I imagine that's exactly what Fannar would want you to do rather than run yourself ragged with worry."

Hiccup silently listened to his father, giving a small nod before wrapping his arms around the man in a hug. Or at least as much as he could given his small size and distended stomach. Giving him a small smile, he turned and walked inside to change into something warmer for the day while giving a small prayer to Heimdall for his mate's safety.

Toothcup

Hiccup groaned slightly as he eased himself down onto his father's chair in the Great Hall, looking out over the festivities happening within the large room as vikings and dragons roamed about, chatting happily and downing unhealthy quantities of mead. The day had been much more eventful than he anticipated. It started with finding Fishlegs, in a rather dumb move despite his intelligence, had locked Meatlug up in his family's shed to keep her from leaving with the rest of the dragons. He freed the poor dragon to let her leave, but had been accidentally scooped up along with her and taken to the island that the dragon's used to lay and hatch their eggs.

In his absence, the other teens discovered Meatlug had already laid her eggs and decided to give them as surprise presents to some of the other villagers. A nice gesture in theory, barring the fact that the eggs exploded upon hatching which did a surprising amount of damage to the houses unfortunate enough to have gotten one placed inside. His house was spared, thankfully, due to it being the Chief's house as well as Fannar's nest. Hiccup had learned of that information while wandering the dragon's island, having decided to explore while he was there. When he realised that Meatlug's eggs were still there, he sighed, hopping on Hookfang and using an old viking ship to carry the hatchlings back to Berk for damage control.

And now he was here, riding out the mild contractions that signalled the end of the early stages of labour. He was somewhat thankful for the pain causing him to tense up, as the contractions had started when he was high up in the air over the ocean on dragonback. If he didn't he likely would have fallen off Hookfang's back when it first hit. It was also a good distraction and a hard reminder that his mate still wasn't back yet, no one in the village having seen him at all while he was gone. He closed his eyes and leaned back into the chair as the latest contraction ended, silently praying to the gods that his mate returned soon.

Of course, right when he wasn't looking was when one of the large doors to the hall opened up, a black-scaled head peeking inside and looking around, green eyes lighting up upon landing on Hiccup's form. Fannar silently padded up, waiting until he was right in front of his mate before sticking his tongue out and licking him. The boy yelped, automatically raising his arms to wipe the saliva off before realising who had just licked him. Smiling, he threw his arms around the dragon's neck before pulling back with a stern frown.

"Where have you been?! I've been worried sick!" Hiccup looked over his mate to make sure he wasn't hurt, though the dragon's croon brought his attention back to his face.

"I'm sorry for being gone for so long, my mate. I wanted to make sure your gift was perfect." Holding up a paw, he showed Hiccup a necklace with a Night Fury scale on the end which had been shaped like a shell. Worry and anger melting away at the sweet gift, both mates embraced each other and shared a kiss, though that was interrupted by a groan of pain as a harsh contraction hit Hiccup, now moving into active labour.

"That's a wonderful gift, thank you, but I need to get back to the house. I feel the urge to start pushing, and now!" He placed a hand over his mouth, fighting the urge to puke as Fannar gently and carefully helped Hiccup stand then get onto his back, quickly taking him back to the house as Stoick followed, shouting for someone to get the healer and elder to come as well. The two men worked to get Hiccup comfortable, removing his clothes and laying him on a soft bed to prepare for the birth.

After feeling painful contractions for over twenty minutes, Hiccup's water decided to break, which caused the healer to make Hiccup change from his lying on his back to standing on all fours, and with the go ahead from Gothi, allowed Hiccup to finally push. However, after an hour the contractions became closer after one and the other, which caused Hiccup to scream in pain and hold one of Fannar's paws closest to him, squeezing with a grip stronger than one would expect from the fishbone of a viking. After an hour the two eggs could be seen crowing and with one nudge from the forceps the two eggs left Hiccup's vagina. However it was short lived as Hiccup felt another contraction and instead of the two eggs it was the placenta, which didn't take as long as the actual birth. Hiccup fell asleep as soon as it was all over (and cleaned up by the elder and dressed in his father's tunic which looked more like a dress on Hiccup). Fannar is seen holding the eggs in his paws while making a small fire in the fireplace, so the eggs could feel the heat, like they would in the wild. Stoick sat nearby, smiling at the two, tucking his son in and giving the dragon a few pats on the head. Fannar smiled at the man before turning his attention to the eggs in his grasp.

"I cannot wait to see you both." Fannar said to the eggs, soon falling asleep to the sound of his mate's breathing.

Toothcup

A full twelve hours passed before the eggs hatched, being named Balder and Bergijot by Hiccup and Fannar. Balder was a hybrid, with auburn hair and human skin like Hiccup with scales scattered along his body, with two wings and a tail like Fannar's on his back. Bergijot was a full dragon, looking like her father but with her mother's eyes. The parents loved them all the same no matter what they looked like, with Stoick overjoyed to finally meet his grandchildren. The village likewise welcomed them with open arms, wondering what adventures the two new family members would get up to.
