"Look who got desk duty on her first shift," Luke says as he leans against the doorway of the squad area. "Not how you expected to spend the first shift?"
"Don't you have a crime to investigate," Gail comments as she looks at him. "After all, it's your first day back as well?"
Dov looks shocked at the two of them.
"I guess you don't want to see the cute picture that I took yesterday during a walk with Fay," Luke says. He turns to leave.
"Stop right there," Gail says as she stands. "Using your daughter against me is not playing fair."
"You didn't last night from what I hear," Luke says with a grin on his face.
"Damn it, Steve," Gail mutters as she looks at him. "Why does my brother is such a gossip?"
"It was Jerry," Luke corrects as he pulls out his phone. "All the while lecturing me about not being there to make sure you played by the rules."
"What rules?" Gail asks as she watches him. "He said get out of the cuffs any way you knew how? Not my fault. Steve always has an extra key to his cuffs on him."
"There may be a point made there," Luke says as he clicks on his phone. "Oliver should have better explained the rules."
"Not my fault Steve gave in," Gail comments. "Is Kit Kat and Fay coming in today?"
"I am not sure. It all depends on how sleepy Fay gets," Luke says before turning his phone to her. "You could always call and ask her."
"Oh my god," Gail says with an excited voice, causing it to go up in pitch. She looks at the photo of Fay wearing a multicoloured floral romper with a white sunhat. She had on round pink glasses and gold sandals. "Why wasn't I invited? I never get to see my goddaughter anymore."
"You should have called," Luke says before the radio goes off.
"Requesting homicide at 306 Dunn Avenue near Jameson and King, apartment 202. One male DOA," a female dispatch voice says through the radio.
"That's me," Luke says before taking back his phone. "Have fun working the desk."
Gail watches as he leaves the entrance and walks toward the back of the building.
"Another family friend?" Dov asks, still shocked.
"Married to my cousin," Gail says before reaching into her pocket and pulling out her phone. She flips it open and looks through her contacts.
"Your cousin is married to the homicide detective in this division," Dov asks as he watches her.
"Yeah and her dad works out of 33," Gail says before pressing the call on her phone.
"Are you kidding me?" Dov says before shaking his head and looking around. "We're just supposed to sit here?"
"I'm on the phone."
"We're missing all the action," Dov says before noticing Boyko leaving his office.
Gail just giggles as she holds the phone to her ear.
"Uh, excuse me," Dov says as he gets up to approach Jason. Gail quickly closes her phone and places it on the desk. "Sir? Hi. Uh, quick question. Uh, I was wondering, uh, how would I and would I be allowed to…"
"Spit it out," Jason says, already annoyed.
"Oh. Uh, can I take my gun home with me at night?" Dov spits out?
"Why?"
"You know, just to, uh, have it, to get used to it, to clean it."
"Take-home forms are in the second drawer," Jason states. "You fill one out, then I decide."
"Thank you, sir," Dov says before going back to the drawer.
"Big man," Gail says.
Kathleen smiles as she walks into division 15, pushing the stroller. She smiles as she sees Noelle front and center with a young African officer.
"Look who finally showed up," Noelle says as soon as she notices the two of them. She rushes over to investigate the stroller. "Is this little Fay?"
"Yes, it is," Kathleen says as she smiles and locks the wheels on the stroller. She reaches forward and removes the drape covering from around the car seat. "You want to hold her?"
"Can I?" Noelle asks as she looks at the little bundle of joy. She moves to the hand sanitizer and applies some to her hands.
Kathleen only shakes her head as she releases Fay from her car seat and picks her up into her arms. "Would I have asked," she says before passing her to Noelle.
"Look at you," Noelle says as she holds Fay close to her. "No wonder your daddy didn't want to come back to work."
"No, he didn't," Kathleen says before noticing the other officer. "Kathleen Callaghan."
"Tracy Nash," Tracy says as they shake hands. "She's adorable. How old?"
"She'll be six weeks on Monday," Kathleen says as she smiles at her daughter. "I know Luke is at a scene, but any idea where her godfather is?"
"He is still brooding in the showers," Noelle says as she turns to look at Tracy. "Nash, can you tell Barber to get Swarek out here?"
"Sure," Tracy says before going towards Jerry's office. She walks up the steps and knocks on his door. "We need Swarek in the witness area."
"Any reason?" Jerry asks as he looks at her. "He's kind of in a bad mood."
"I know, but Williams said to get him and to go through you," Tracy says. "Kathleen Callaghan and her daughter are there with Williams."
"That should put him in a better mood," Jerry says before standing and walking towards the male locker room. He enters the locker room and scans the area. "Sammy?"
"What?" Sam says as he walks out of the shower with a towel around his waist.
"Noelle's got a surprise for you," Jerry says as Sam opens his locker. "It's waiting at the witness area."
"Not in the mood," Sam says as he pulls out some clean clothes. "I only want to go to the Penny and start drinking."
"Trust me," Jerry says as he walks towards the exit. "This will brighten up your day."
Sam only shakes his head as he pulls on a pair of dark-washed jeans and a black t-shirt. After grabbing his jacket, keys, wallet, and badges, he walked out of the locker room. He knew that if he didn't see Noelle that she will kick his ass. He walks over to the area. "I'm here, what's the big deal?" he says as he notices Noelle, Gail and another rookie all standing there.
"Thought it was time you meet somebody," Kathleen says from behind him. "Though with that attitude."
Noelle then turns, and he sees a chubby baby in a navy blue polka-dot romper. She's also wearing a denim floral ruffle sun hat with a pair of gold sandals.
"Don't worry, Fay," Gail coos at her. "Uncle Sammy usually isn't this mean."
Sam shoots her a glare as Noelle passes him the baby. He looks almost shocked as he positions her better in his arms.
"You still with us," Noelle jokes. His attention solely focused on the little girl in his arms. "Were all the males like this?"
"Essentially," Kathleen says as she watches the two of them. "It was way worse with Luke. He couldn't speak for at least 15 minutes after I gave birth to her."
"What's her name?" Sam asks after his trance is broken. "How old is she?"
"Faylinn Helen Callaghan, born May 1st at 3 am," Gail starts as she watches them. "She weighed six pounds and nine ounces and put her poor mother through 18 hours of labour. So she'll be six weeks on Monday."
"Wow," Sam says as he holds the little girl closer to him. "Did your dad break into the hospital?"
"Nope. He showed up fifteen minutes before visiting hours began," Kathleen comments. She watches them. "Uncle Jason said you needed something to pick you up."
"Does he think it's going to work on your dad?" Sam asks as he looks at her.
She notices Fay squirm and moves towards the diaper bag. She reaches in, pulls out a grey elephant with a pacifier, and offers it to the baby. "It might," she says as she places the soother in her daughter's mouth. "All is going to depend on his mood."
"Ahh," Sam says as the little girl settles back into his arms. "Does anyone have an update on the case?"
"Andy and Oliver are bringing in the guy," Gail mentions as she watches Fay. "I don't think Luke is far behind them."
"What a first day back," Noelle mentions. "I'm going to go finish my paperwork. I suggest you do the same, Peck."
"Yes mam," Gail says before leaning and placing a kiss on Fay's head before she and Noelle leave the area.
"First day back," Sam asks as he switches arms. "What does that mean?"
"He took under two months off to be with us," Kathleen comments as she watches the two of them. "What's your next move?"
"See if your dad, drugs, or vice got a spot for me?"
"No patrol?"
"If there is nothing open."
"Sam, come on. This late in the game, you will be lucky to get another undercover operation. Spend a few months on patrol, and when my dad finds another op worthy of your time and experience, he'll let you know."
"You think I won't find anything?"
"Not till fall, and that is if you are lucky."
"Yee, who has little faith?"
"Do I need to remind you? You've been gone for eight months?"
"What does that mean?"
"Should I ask what you two are discussing?" Luke says as he appears behind Kathleen.
"Sam being able to find another undercover op this late in the game," Kathleen says. She notices Fay becoming more alert and looking around. "Such a daddy's girl."
"She is like her mother," Sam says before passing Fay over to her dad. "Though it didn't always work out in your favour."
"Bite me," Kathleen says.
Luke only shakes his head as he adjusts his hold on Fay. "This is a normal conversation between mommy and Uncle Sammy. You'll see it a lot between Uncle Steve and Aunt Gail as well."
