Afraid of Her Past

"My mother is afraid of her past. No one remembers her time as a pirate, well, at least no one here in Port Royal. She has always been the governor's daughter, and nothing more. If anyone asks her about her time on the ocean before she married, she will just tell you that she was forced with threat of death. Everyone 'oohs' and 'ahhs' feeling terrible for the horror story my mother seemed to have lived through, when the truth always has been that she loved being on the ocean. My father tells me that she would rather be on the ocean with you. She doesn't truly love him; her heart belongs only to the ocean.
"She yells when you bring up her past, the word 'pirate' is a curse in our household, because everyone knows that that is what she is… a pirate. Father says that he too was once a pirate, and that my grandfather was also a pirate, and that pirates can be good people, they all aren't the horrible thieves and sinners that you read about.
"My mother is so ashamed of her past, that she despises me for wanting to be like her. Well, the old her. The pirate her. I'm disgusting, even vile in her mind. I'm disgusting to anyone on her side of the family. Well, that could also be because no one in my fathers' family knows me. But, my grandfather's last wishes for me (he told them to me) were to be happy doing whatever it was that I wanted, because, when your old and dying you look back on your life, and the things you wanted to do, but didn't because of your family- you'll realize were more important then family pride. That is why I still am who I want to be.
"I'm sorry she must be so ashamed of herself, that she must cower away form her past. But, I am willing to live what she didn't, whatever the consequences may be. I'm willing. That is all that matters." I sighed.
Jack sat, looking at me, his dark eyes were glazed with thought, so I couldn't see what he was thinking. Slowly he stood, and walked in front of me, taking my faces in his hands.
"You, Christine Turner, are the exact replica of your mother, except for one thing."
"And what, Jack, might that be?"
His gaze bored deep into my soul. I could feel him reading my thoughts.
"You, Christine, are not afraid of what others may think of you. It is a wonderful personality flaw." Jack smiled lightly, almost in pain. "Promise my Christine, that you will not regret you choice. Promise that you will not act like your mother. Because no matter what happens, Elizabeth will always be afraid of her past."
It's short, but it was an idea that came to me, and I had to write it down. The only isuue is that you don't get the rst of the story, but. I guess maybe'll I'll write the rest of the story. Tell me what you think about that, and iff you want to just basically know what the rest of the plot is, you can email me.
