Ginny stood in the kitchen out the window. The snow had finally melted, and the sun was high in the sky. Spring had finally arrived after a long and harsh winter and Ginny couldn't wait to celebrate. They hadn't spent any amount of time outside in months and what better way to celebrate springtime than with a picnic. There was just one problem. She made too much food. She looked over at her average sized wicker basket and then back down at the gluttonous amount of food and frowned. She knew she had to make some cuts, but she didn't know to what. Maybe to the sandwiches. Did they really need four types, probably not.
"Harry! I could use some help in here" Ginny called out, finally admitting defeat.
Ginny didn't look up from her perusal of items even when she felt the warm hand of her boyfriend on the small of her back. She had tried once more to fit everything into the basket but only half made it in and she was now unpacking the basket for the third time. No matter how she arranged the items, everything wouldn't fit.
"What do we have here?" Harry asked. He reached forward to pluck a chocolate chip oatmeal cookie from the pile when Ginny slapped his hand away.
"These are for the picnic, not for snacking"
Harry backed off with his hands raised and a smirk on his lips, "Yes, dear" he said mockingly before he rounded the island and stood opposite Ginny.
"What do you need help with then?"
"There's too much food to fit in the basket. What should we cut down on?"
"If it won't fit, why couldn't I eat a cookie?" Harry asked. His chuckle quickly died off at the glare he received for his less than helpful joke. Harry looked down and sighed. There was and assortment of fruit, cookies, cheese and crackers. Four types of drink and a large assortment of sandwiches.
"Wow" he whispered. Harry cleared his throat and looked up at Ginny with a smile, "What have we got?"
"Well for sandwiches we have a choice of Ham and Swiss, Reubens, Turkey with Pesto and Swiss…"
"Anything without Swiss Cheese?" Harry asked with a grimace.
Ginny frowned, "You can always take the cheese off"
"Right. Well, I think just one sandwich is good. I vote for Turkey, but I'm fine with Ham"
"Alright" Ginny said with a sigh as she removed the three other sandwiches from her selection. She put everything back in the fridge, they would be good for tomorrow's lunch at least.
"Probably just one type of cookie too, we don't need so many"
"I just wanted everything to be perfect you know"
"I know" Harry said with a smile, "It will be, don't worry" he said as he thought of the small box that was hidden up in his closet. He looked outside at the beautiful day and then back at his girlfriend. Yes, he decided. This was the perfect time to ask the question that had been running through his mind for months.
