Something I mused on the other day.
A chance meeting with some doctor's son led to Kogoro Mori being invited to dinner. This was an common occurance for him.
His daughter and his ward, Ran Mori and Conan Edogawa (respectively), were with him (as usual) when the invitation was given. The invite was extended to them.
Absolutely normal.
Later on, once everyone was seated and eating some tasty steak, the introductions began one-by-one.
The doctor said, "My name is Random Doctor,"
His wife said, "I'm Random Doctor's Wife,"
"Random Doctor's Son, but you all know me,"
"Random Doctor's Mother,"
"Random Doctor's Cousin,"
"Random Doctor's Housemaid,"
"Ran Mori,"
"Conan Edogawa, detective."
"Kogoro Mori,"
"Kogoro Mori..." Random Doctor said, just before the realization hit him, "You are Sleeping Kogoro?"
Before the alcoholic private detective could affirm his identity, Random Doctor did something that made the day unique.
Random Doctor took a steak knife and drove it into his wife's neck under the right ear. This action severed her Jugular vein. The large amounts of blood that course through the Jugular vein spurted and splashed out onto the table. She spasmed for a couple of seconds before collapsing.
Understandably, everyone at the table propelled themselves backwards while screaming.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
"HOLY SH-T!"
"What the f-ck, Dad!"
OH MY GOD!"
Ran and Kogoro, having some knowledge in martial arts, were about to throw themselves at Random Doctor. Random Doctor's Cousin picked up a chair to use as a weapon. Conan took aim with his interesting watch.
Then they stopped cold.
Random Doctor was serenly eating his food as though nothing was wrong. You would think he just took a drink from a cup in front of him rather than kill his wife.
Shocked by Random Doctor's nonchalant killing of his wife, Kogoro screamed.
"What the hell did you do that for, you depraved lunatic!"
Random Doctor gave him an amused smile.
"I thought it was obvious. Whenever Sleeping Kogoro gets invited to dinner, a person dies. I was just making sure that the person wasn't me."
