She's a myth that I have to believe in

He was five when he met her; she was the cute little girl who lived across the street. Her natural pink hair caught his attention, and ever since he made a comment about it, they became fast friends.

He was twelve when someone over thirty had hit on her, and a raging sense of brotherly love caused him to become violent. He did not care that that he had gotten hurt in the process; no one touched his best friend.

He was fifteen when she got her first boyfriend, and a feeling a lot like jealousy coursed through his veins whenever he saw them together. When they had parted, he told her that he loved her. Shortly thereafter, they became a lovely couple themselves, wrapped in their own love story…

A week before he turned seventeen, she disappeared. He searched everywhere for her, but he could not find her. He finally confronted his mother who all but stared at him in confusion.

"Who?" She asked, scratching the back of her head with one hand, as her other clutched the book she had been reading just a minute before.

"You know, Sakura, the girl who lives across the street—" He said, but stopped when his mother gave a humorless snort.

"What are you talking about?" She asked before turning back to her book. "Neji, you know that's not funny. Haruno-san never had kids. She's barren."

"Neji. Come out and play."

When he turned seventeen, he knew he was insane.
