Chapter 3

As I creeped round the corner into the Great Hall, I was suddenly confronted with the most heart wrenching sight.

I froze in shock as I scanned the hall, which had once been full of life and chatter, and was now filled with sounds of weeping and misery. Little groups where huddled around conversing in low voices.

Against the walls, in rows on the floor, lay the fallen. I gasped and swore as I spotted Lupin and Nymphadora among the dead. I may have never liked Lupin, but I didn't wish him dead. Like me, he had lost all his friends to the war, and now, when he had finally found happiness again, he was killed, and Miss Tonks (or I suppose I should say Mrs. Lupin) along with him.

I remembered the cheeky energetic Hufflepuff girl who had more than once knocked her cauldron over, drenching the rest of the class with her potion concoctions, which surprisingly, where usually quite skillfully brewed.

I had always been impressed by her immunity to my scathing comments and her quick tongue,(although I definitely did not appreciate it at the time,) she reminded me of her mother in that way.

The sound of a woman sobbing loudly drew my eyes away from the couple, and to the body at the end of the row. My heart sunk even lower as I took in the sight before me. The body belonged to George, no, Fredrick Weasley, he had both ears, I noted guiltily.

His family was huddled around him, all with matching expressions of grief on their faces. The sound was coming from molly, who was sobbing in Arthur's arms. Miss Granger was crying on Mr. (Ronald) Weasley's shoulder, Weasley had silent tears running down his face as he wrapped his arms around her. On the ground, Percival was kneeling next to Fredrick, while his face contorted with anguish and, was that guilt?! The idiot was probably blaming himself for not making amends with his family sooner.

The eldest Weasley boys, Charles and William, where standing to one side with identical expressions of shock and sorrow on their faces. William's young wife, the former Miss Delacour, was gripping his hand, but he didn't seem to notice her.

George was draped over his twin's body shaking uncontrollably, his cries of anguish muffled by his brothers unmoving chest.

"No!"

I jumped back against the wall and stared wildly around until my eyes found the source of the cry, Miss Weasley had just entered the hall, and was staring at her gathered family in horror.

"No, No, NO!" she surged forward and ran past me, ducking Charles's arm as he made to catch her, and then she stopped short when she saw which one of her brothers she had lost.

"NO! FRED! PLEASE NO!" she started sobbing as she fell to the ground at her brother's side.

"Fred! Please don't go!" - she was shaking him now, as if he here just in a deep slumber.

"Gin…" Percival had pulled her into his arms and was rocking her like one would a small child. "Gin, I…I'm so sorry" his voice cracking as he tried to comfort her.

It was too much, I couldn't watch. I turned away, and suddenly my fury returned in full force. How many more children had to die by the hands of that sick bastard and his lackeys? How many more would be orphaned before this war could end?

I slowly sank to the floor and reeled in my anger. I leaned against the wall and closed my eyes, trying to block out the sounds of mourning around me.

It would be over soon, I would make sure of it, now I just needed to wait.

g-d, I'm crying!

Sorry about the long delay, it was a very hard chapter to write as it's hard to imagine Snape's reaction to all the deaths.

In the end, I don't think I did a very good job, and this chapter was quite short, but I'm hoping the next few will be better.

Please don't hesitate to review, this is my first fanfic so any feedback you can give is great, and if I have any mistakes, please comment so I know how to improve.

Thank you for reading!

A few notes,

First, we know harry saw ginny on the way to the forest so we know she wasn't in the hall at the beginning,

Second, I don't think snape would know what a horcrux is, seeing as Dumbledore removed all the books mentioning it from the Hogwarts library when he became headmaster, and that was before snape came to Hogwarts ,and then Hermione stole them from his office.

he could have found out somewhere else, but I doubt it, seeing as even when Hermione reads about them, they are mentioned in passing, but not explained at all.
