They watched Michael, the man they had once trusted, saved and had been saved by, sail away leaving them in the hands of their enemies. He locked eyes with them, his gaze apologetic and dark with unspoken guilt. Their glares were cold and unforgiving.

"Traitor"

He looked away, back to his son and uncertain future. What the others had set in wait for them, salvation or damnation, was yet to be confirmed but no matter what Michael knew he had to try for Walt's sake. He couldn't give up. Not after what it had cost him.

Words raced through Kate's head as she felt her time with her companions coming to an end. Important things that hurt to think she would never get to say to the two men keeling on either side of her. Apologies, thanks, promises, truths but in the end of the two of them she would choose to turn to it was Jack. She had known him longer, they had been through more together and his eyes were already turned to her. So she looked up into them wondering what she would see, as she had done countless times before in her moments of greatest need. Though he could not talk his expression spoke volumes. She saw such a deep mixture of emotions in his serious stare. Fear of what fate they were being vindictively assigned. Rage for the way they were caught, like animals. Betrayed for the way they had been callously deceived by a friend. Regret for actions he had or hadn't taken with her and with the other cast aways. Sadness as this moment might be the last he would live to see her. There was something about the way he looked that told her his mind was filled with unsaid words as well. A look so defined she could almost hear his voice, husky and honest as it always was.

"Goodbye Kate"

She blinked back in understanding her eyes brimming with the reply.

"Goodbye Jack"

Sawyer watched the two of them speak in silent tongues and realised perhaps this is the way it would always be. He might touch Kate, but Jack heard her and she heard him. He saw what they said "Just in case…I want you to know…I didn't want to leave without…saying…" his eyes flashed with anger now. Maybe they had resigned themselves to an uncertain fate but he knew he couldn't. Not long before he might've hoped for a swift finish, death didn't seem so cruel to him back then but now things were different. He would not give up. Not on life. Not on Kate. Hair blew in his face as he stared at them still, not even blinking as the bag was pulled over his head. He didn't want to forget the last image he saw, so he knew what he was going to be fighting for, what he was fighting to change.

"Goodbye Kate"
