Flashback

It was an average day at the Smash Mansion. Characters were going about their daily business and whatnot.

Then the sky darkened and without warning, a black swarm began circling the mansion.

The Smashers instantly went on edge before the swarm took a humanoid form. The form was feminine with black specks as hair, flowing down to her chest. Her skin was a sickly ghost shade while the gown she wore was ebony black which covered her body. Her eyes gleamed with violet irises and her nails were sharp and painted red.

All the Smashers ran out and armed themselves, the threat making herself quite known.

With a predatory smile, the feminine embodiment of darkness raised her hands, allowing tendrils of the element to rise, and thrusted them forward.

Like Galeem's attack, they tried to retaliate but were consumed once more. Instantly, any Smasher was captured and writhe in pain from the attack.

However, there was a new help.

The Announcer, a sphere with the Smash Brothers logo, appeared and fired a concentrated beam, striking the torso.

The threat winced, the beam hurting her but ignored the pain and began to direct her attention to the newcomer.

The orb flashed a bright light, affecting each of the Smashers before turning them into their Hero Medals and flinging them far away.

As much as She hated what the orb did, she got what she wanted by forming the False Smashers.

Her legion was just beginning from there. Shortly after, she came across her loyal minions and her army expanded from there.

Her base became the former Smash Mansion, corrupting it into her own twisted image and encompassing it with a hurricane of darkness.

There she sat, just biding her time for her mortal enemy to be recarniated and having fun.

Present

Seth drew a blank at that name, "Smashus? Who is he? Like some Hercules character?"

"Not-a exactly," Mario admitted as he took a seat, "Smashus is a character that is believed to be the true first Smasher, 00. Like how I was deemed Fighter 01."

"So, this 'Smashus' is a legend then," Seth brought up.

"Oh, he's real," Link confirmed, "At least we believe it to be so. After all, I have met gods in my dimension. Same for Mario, Kirby, and a handful of other Smashers."

"... Doesn't Kirby tend to beat gods?" the human asked to which the two holographic human fighters shrugged.

"Moving along," Seth said, "What does any of that have to do with what my Switch can do? Let alone my new abilities."

"The legends say that Smashus wielded different-a weapons over his lifetime. Each giving him-a powers to rival his eternal enemy: Scylla or Her as some call them," Mario informed.

"Yeah, those three Dungeons & Dragons wannabes mentioned this 'Her' character a lot. Is she like a Goddess or something?" Seth asked.

"Goddess won't be the right word, but it's up there. It's rumored that she was the first deity in the World of Trophies. Before Galeem and Dharkon. Heck, some records even said she created Galeem and Dharkon."

Seth recapped what they were saying, "So this 'Scylla' character created Galeem and Dharkon? Like her children?"

"Pretty much. It was-a said it was for balance-a," Mario continued, "Galeem-a is the embodiment of light in this realm as Dharkon-a is the embodiment of darkness. Which leads to them clashing but also getting praised."

"Praised?" Seth repeated.

"Yeah," Link sheepishly said, "Galeem was more reverend since she was the light deity. Dharkon not as much, only by cultists who figured he could truly revert the world to a proper order."

"So, where does Her come in? I mean she did create them, but is there more?"

"Well, Scylla wanted to be worshiped by the people of the World of Trophies. But since Galeem and Dharkon were heavily influenced, 'She' was ignored by them," the Hylian explained, "Which led her to sulk in the background."

"Shortly-a after, Galeem and Dharkon started to clash with their-a usual antics of light and dark. They created their agents of light-a, Master Hand, and dark-a, Crazy Hand. However, their clashes led to something else brewing."

"Let me guess," Seth dryly commented, "Subspace."

Both human fighters nodded before Link began again, "Subspace was created from the conflicts of Galeem and Dharkon. Scylla took advantage of the conflict and created a new being."

"Tabuu…" Seth answered.

"That's him-a. Though even as Tabuu-a was the master of the realm, he had a proxy."

"And that's where Master Core comes in," Seth realized.

"Correct. For someone who hasn't been in this world before, you know much about the threats other than Her," Link mentioned.

"Yeah," Seth sheepishly laughed, not sure how they would react to the fact where the young adult comes from, everything they do is on a screen, "Anyways, so 'She' created Tabuu in Subspace, Master Core the proxy of Tabuu. What happened next?"

"Thanks to Galeem-a and Dharkon's infinite clashes, 'She'-a banished them to their own domain, where they lay dormant for many eons. Subspace existed on its own-a plane so no one really discovered it. Master-a and Crazy Hand-a were spared and became the de-facto gods-a of the World of Trophies."

"And where does this 'Smashus' character come from? I mean if this 'Scylla' character is his eternal enemy, where was he?" Seth asked.

"Well, Smashus is the equivalent to the true light of the World of Trophies. Scylla is the true darkness. 'She' defeated Smashus because she deemed herself worthy in governing the entire World of Trophies."

"And she must have had Galeem and Dharkon to pose as the deities given how she couldn't interact with the world."

"That is correct," Mario said, "But Smashus returned. Battling 'Her' for centuries till they managed to defeat 'Her.'

Seth mauled all the information together before asking another question, "So, where do I come in?"

To his fear, both fighters shrugged as the transported human was back at square one: getting Jumanji'd.

"Wait, could Smashus… be reincarnated?" Seth skeptically asked.

Mario and Link shared a look before the latter answered, "It is possible. I mean, I know I get reincarnated but it is not impossible. They has battled for centuries so maybe that's how they beat 'Her.'"

"Guess that's a working theory for now," Seth muttered for himself. He couldn't help but feel like he was about to experience some real odd things.

"I know you-a have more-a questions," Mario said, "But perhaps we should-a get some-a rest." Seth nodded at the claim and decided to sleep the best he could.

Seth's dream though was something of a mystery to him. Usually he remembers such bizarre dreams, but here he could see multiple visions of himself doing insane stunts.

One involved him shifting through various abilities: leaping higher, swinging a pillar with incredible strength, swinging the Master Sword, equipping an arm cannon, his tongue was surprisingly longer, copying several blows back to back, a blaster, and electricity dancing on his fingertips were some he saw.

Another was him encircled by thirteen symbols: a red flame, a blue drop of water, a brown mountain, a white breeze, a yellow lightning bolt, a green sproutling, a pink eye with a crescent as the pupil, a purple first quarter moon, a black skull, a bright halo, an orange atom, a light blue planet that resemble Saturn, and an hourglass.

Seth, while not fully understanding what they meant, deciphered them as elements.

The third one was with him and all the Smashers (good and bad) on a cliffside that reminded the human of the opening in World of Light.

The fourth one had him flying straight towards an entity of darkness. Seth presumed this as 'Her.' There were brief clips of him fighting 'Her,' the entity gaining the upper hand before flattening him.

'The reincarnation of Smashus,' Scylla said, 'I am most disappointed. You are weak, pathetic, and most of all… finished.' She sent a pool of darkness that grabbed Seth all over and pulled him down into the pool. 'Her' laughed at the defeat and anguish of her mortal enemy as False Smashers gazed with their lifeless eyes.

The final one depicted him with eyes glowing and emitted a large figure that Seth assumed was Smashus, although he couldn't make the proper facial features.

'Chosen One,' an ominous voice said, 'I am sure you have many questions.'

"Yeah," Seth sarcastically replied, "I'm trapped in the World of Trophies and apparently destined to save the world. Yes, I have many questions!"

'In due time, they will be answered.'

"Do you have to be cryptic?"

'It's more effective this way.'

"Whatever. You got my answers?"

'I cannot reveal much. The letter should be enough to explain.'

"You want me to find every single Smasher who is trapped within a medal?"

'Hero Medals. When the Smashers were on the brink of death, I used my powers to revert them into the medals and scattered them to prevent them from being corrupted.'

"'Hero' Medals when Bowser, Bowser Jr., King K. Rool, Ganondorf, Ridley, Wolf, Dark Samus, Sephiroth, and Kazuya are villains."

'... Irrelevant but they are still worthy nonetheless.'

"And when you said all the Smash Brothers…"

'Yes. If you get a certain Hero Medal like say Corrin's, the gender swapped function is available. Or for the the Luminary, other reincarnations are available.'

"Why?"

'I cannot discuss that.'

"Ugh. Moving along, the elements?"

'The second vision.'

"Yeah, I thought there was maybe… five or six elements. Not thirteen!"

'There are the basic ones such as Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Electricity, and Life. Then the advanced ones: Magic, Space, Undead, Energy, and Time. Then the master ranks: Light and Dark.'

"Of course, Light and Dark are the master rank ones. And won't Undead count as Darkness?"

'It does not in the Skylander universe.'

"You are aware of that?"

'Of course.'

"... Ok. Not gonna press any further. My Nintendo Switch. What's up with that?"

'It serves as your armory.'

"My armory?"

'Yes. You are able to store the Hero Medals and certain weapons like the Master Sword and Hylian Shield.'

"And my abilities?"

'You shall acquire them as you encounter every Smasher.'

"Even more cryptic…"

'Any other questions?'

"Will I be able to speak with you again? Also what's your name? I would like to know who is talking in my mind."

'I cannot-'

"Cannot reveal much. Yeah, I pretty much get the Chosen One trope," Seth lamented before facepalming with exhaustion. "Ugh…"

The human composed himself before composing himself, "Ok. Ok. Ok. Find your zen." It took a few seconds before Seth found his piece, "Alright. So to recap: I need to find all the fighters in their Hero Medals, master the elements, and defeat Scylla while also understanding Smashus. Correct?"

'Pretty much the gist.'

"How long do you think this will take?"

'Depends on your determination.'

Seth refrained from rolling his eyes, "Oh, trust me. I'm determined."

'That is all I needed to hear. I wish you luck, Chosen One.'

The voice seemingly faded away and Seth felt himself begin to wake up.

The human slowly opened his eyes to a holographic Kirby snoozing next to him. That sight made Seth's morning already better.

'Good morning-a,' Mario said as he and Link were already up.

"Morning," Seth yawned before rolling his shoulders. His stomach lightly growled, meaning he was hungry. "So, what do we have to eat around here?"

Both heroes shrugged. 'Hard to-a say.' Mario admitted.

'We didn't really have to forage for food when we lived in the mansion. And seeing how we are holograms, we don't need food.' Link deduced.

Seth thought about this for a while. True, all the Smashers were trapped in their Hero Medals and reduced to holographic states. However, Seth was still human. Meaning he still needs necessities.

Kirby perked up at the mention of food and seemed to get an idea. 'Poyo!' The hero of Popstar ran off into a bush before yelling. The three humans walked over and found a Maximum Tomato.

"... Is this even healthy?" Seth questioned as he picked up the fruit.

'It replenishes our health, I don't see why not?' Link said.

Seth shrugged and consumed the Maximum Tomato. Instantly, he felt his stomach become satisfied. "Wow! That really hit the spot! Good thinking, Kirby." Seth said with a thumbs up.

'Poyo!' Kirby did a little dance at his thanks.

Seth clapped his hands together, "Well, I guess since I just had breakfast, I suppose someone has an idea about what or where we should go?"

Mario thought for a while, 'Well-a, perhaps we can head towards the World Library.'

"World Library?"

'A library that contains thousands of books about lore, history, and information about the Smashers, the World of Trophies, and perhaps something about Her.' Link explained.

'While we're-a at it, maybe we should-a work on your-a abilities.' Mario offered.

Seth thought about it. "Sounds like a plan. I don't really know how to use a sword well."

'Then let's change that, shall we?' Link smirked. Seth grabbed his Hero Medal and summoned the legendary hero of the Triforce.

Link readied his Master Sword before Seth summoned his own copy of the Hylian weapon.

"Ready?"

"Shouldn't we go over some basic-" Seth was interrupted when Link charged and swung his sword.

"A warning would have been nice!" The Chosen One said, using the Hylian Shield to block.

"You mean to tell me that he managed to overwhelm you?!" She snapped, her voice so sharp, the nerves of her top lieutenants getting some goosebumps. They managed to steel themselves but it didn't help.

"Mistress… Mage suggested we retreat." Rogue said but he was silenced.

"I do not care who suggested what. The reincarnation of Smashus was at his weakest. He could have been killed and my reign would have been everlasting. But now he is discovering his abilities and with the three medals he's found, HE WILL NOW SEARCH FOR THEM!"

The three archetypes flinched as they kneel before She slowly calmed down, since the darkness pulsating came to a halt. Composing herself, the embodiment of darkness took a calmer tone. "Despite this little setback, he's only discovered three of many. They are scattered around the world, impossible for a single person."

The three archetypes nodded at the claim as the mistress continued, "Our proxies will be alert about the reincarnation. And our allies." Placing her fingers together and her malevolent grin returning, her next sentence came with a devious tone.

"He will fall. And his death will be my victory."
