Disclaimer: I don't own Harry or Snape but I want to. At least Snape so I can make him happy and make him go out into the sun.

Something Missing
Chapter 1
A boy of twelve sat on his bed and thought of the last two years of his life. Things had changed dramatically and he was pretty sure he didn't like it. He was also pretty sure that his father wasn't too thrilled about it either. He had the busted lip to prove it. For the first time in his twelve short years his father snapped. The boy wasn't sure what had happened or how it happened or why, but it had, and he suffered the consequences.
Things had been alright until his mother had died two years ago. Lillian Snape was a beautiful, kind woman. She loved her family, her three beautiful children, her doting, brilliant husband, and her life. When she died, a shadow fell upon the quiet house in the muggle suburbs of London. The doting, brilliant husband threw himself into his work and the upbringing of his children.
So he did what he does best: he taught. He taught his children even though the two youngest wouldn't start at Hogwarts for another four years. He was strict, he didn't want to let them out of his sight, but he would if only for a few hours at a time. Instead of staying in the muggle house in a muggle suburb, he moved himself and his children into an apartment located near the heart of Hogwarts. It was a lonely life for the children. They only had each other and soon after the move the oldest began his formal training at the school and very rarely saw his brother and sister.
So Professor Severus Snape, widowed with three young children lived their secluded lives in the dungeons of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The children were very rarely allowed outside as the professor would not allow them out unless he were with them and he usually did not want to go outside.
The professor had thought that since he was the Head of the Slytherin House and young Harold was sorted into Slytherin, that Harold would be remaining in the dungeons, in the apartment with him and his younger siblings. Well, the Headmaster had other plans as not long after the Sorting and the Welcome Feast ended, the elves came to retrieve Harold's belongings from the apartment on the Headmaster's orders. Anyone knowing Professor Snape and how protective he is of his children would know that he did not take the news very well.
However, his oldest, Harold, was happy beyond belief that he would finally be allowed to be outside of the dungeons, allowed to go outside, feel the sunshine, ride a broom, play quidditch. Harold could barely contain his excitement.
But the year went by quickly, too quickly for Harold's liking, and now he was back in the apartment for a week until they returned to the muggle house they still owned in the muggle suburb. He was looking forward to going home as he could at least look out the windows at the house. There weren't even any windows here in the dungeons and so the only light came from torches. But he was not looking forward to spending the summer with his father. He loved his father and respected him, but there was something missing, but Harry (as his friends in Slytherin call him) couldn't figure out what.
