Disclaimer: Not mine. Wish they were. Ms. Proulx beat me to it.

A/N: Don't really like post-death stories, but, got tired of seeing one side and not much at all of the other.

The building was silent as a tomb when he walked in. The only sounds were a low sad melody coming from hidden speakers and someone softly crying. Looking around he saw that the place was empty except for the coffin up front opposite the doors. Taking off his hat he slowly approached the coffin till he was standing next to it. Looking in he saw the most beautiful man in the world laying there looking as though he'd just gone to sleep. Tears started to flow down his cheeks as he thought about never being able to hold this man in his arms again. Never get to see him laugh again. Never get to stare into those beautiful eyes that he could always get lost in. He leaned down to kiss those soft lips for the last time. Suddenly feeling eyes on him, he turned and saw a beautiful lady standing by the doors watching him. Not sure what to do, he just stood there as she started walking in his direction. Stopping right in front of him, she just looked into his eyes, her own tears falling. He could see she was even more beautiful than his ex-wife. Not sure what kind of reception he would get from her, he was surprised when she just hugged him. Suddenly they were both crying like their world had just ended.

"You really loved him, didn't ya?" she quietly asked.

"Yes. I did. More than life itself," he replied.

"He really loved ya , too. Talked about ya all the time. Ya gonna stay fer the funeral?"

"No. Not sure I could bear that. Bad enough seein' him like this."

"You take care of yourself then. Your welcome to come back anytime."

"Thank ya. Don't think I'm gonna be back though."

With that, the man donned his hat again and left the funeral home. Still crying, he stepped into his dark blue pickup and headed down the road. He still wanted to go see his momma in Lightning Flat before heading back to Texas.
