Elsa walked into the house and hung her jacket she looked around, once, twice, them she realized, something was off. "Gerda? Where's Mama and Papa, are they working late again?" She asks. "Make sure to check around the east side of the house they're usually there nowadays," she tells Elsa. Trying to resist the huge grin threatening to spread across her features. "Ok!" Elsa calls out to her. "Well if you need me I'm gonna be over there!" She says and leaves. Kai and Gerda pass around the west side of the house and open the door. "Guys," Gerda whispers harshly. "if we were Elsa now the surprise would be ruined,". "Gerda," Ariana replies. "Elsa doesn't have a male voice nor would she be tiptoeing around like it has spiders and cobwebs all over the blasted place!" "Can you guys just shut up and hide!" Agnarr shot at them followed by a glare that made them all shut up and hide.
A couple dry minutes later, they heard the door open and Elsa walked in "Mama? Papa?" "Where the hell are you guys!" she shouted. Iduna put up her hands for everyone in a countdown and put her fingers down. Once her final finger went down everyone jumped up yelling "SURPRISE!!" making Elsa jump out of her skin. "Holy Virgin," she says clutching her heart like it was about to pump right out of her chest and abandon her. Iduna ignored this and hugged Elsa tight. Happy Birthday Elsie!" she says. Elsa didn't reply as she was still in shock unable to process anymore words. "You killed her!" Rapunzel shrieked looking at Elsa's state. "You murdered the birthday girl!" Olaf adds. "Who's birthday are we supposed to celebrate now," Marshmallow groans. "How could you kill my only niece!" Ariana cries. "This is gonna be some headline parents kill their own bloody daughter!" Frederick tells them disapprovingly. "Iduna you killed my baby!" Agnarr whispers as he looks close to tears. Iduna let's go of Elsa with trembling hands. "oh my god," she whispers. "I killed my Snowdlake," she sniffs, choking back a sob.
Gerda and Kai look at each other and roll their eyes at the same time. Gerda goes up to Elsa. "Elsa, honey," she says with a soft voice. "Come on breathe in…breathe out, there you go, come on, again, there you go, that's right,".
When Els comes back to her senses everyone acts like she just came back from the dead except for Gerda and Kai. They watch everyone with disapproving looks. "Happy Birthday!". Elsa gets told from everyone in the room. "Thank you guys!" she tells them all with a grin.
The party goes on for the whole day. Agnarr and Iduna don't drink as they are going out tonight and neither does Elsa even though Rapunzel tried her best to convince her. "I just turned 21 I'm not gonna go and get drunk just because of that fact," Elsa had told her. "But that's the point!" Rapunzel almost cried. "I give up your gonna make me get all depressed and mopey, like you," Rapunzel said bitterly. Elsa punched her shoulder. "Watch your words missy,". Rapunzel smirked. "And what of I don't,". "its my birthday today I get whatever I want," Elsa sticks her tongue out at her cousin. Rapunzel rolled her eyes and went to join Olaf for a shot.
"Her Els," Marshmallow told her. "Hey," she replied. "oh I forgot you're underage your 18 you can't drink," Elsa laughs. "Excuse you but I've had a drink or two. Olaf said I could, Gerda was more reluctant, though," He added sparing a glance at Gerda. Who was now drunk for herself. "who knew we'd see the day Gerda got drunk," Elsa said to Marshmallow which made them laugh.
It was 8pm and Iduna told Elsa they we ready to go. So they brought to everyone to bed. "I could drive you," Kai told them. "Don't worry buddy its just the three of us besides you're a bit tipsy so you might even get arrested," Agnarr told him.
"I want to go with you Els pleaseeee." Rapunzel begged. "Sorry punzie but you're basically drunk and tonight is for me and my parents. " Elsa told her. Rapunzel gave her a big hug. "Ok but I swear to God f I wake up and you're not in this bed with me, Elsa Winters I swear I will come there and drag you by your braid and THEN I'll make you pay," Rapunzel's eyes glint dangerously. "Yes ma'am punzie,". Rapunzel green eyes light up immediately. Agnarr and Iduna enter the room. "Rapunzel….are you trying to blackmail Elsie, you know you can't come," Agnarr chastised her. "You'll see Elsa before you wake up. " "I know Uncle Agnarr I was just telling her, just that," she says as she throws her arm over Elsa's shoulders. "Ok Punzel," he says smiling. "You're just like your damn mother," he adds still smiling big. "I don't know what the hell to say to that so," Rapunzel hugs him tightly. Agnarr looks at her. "Oh, so you're only hugging me because you don't want know what to say, I must say Punzel I am offended," he tells her. "You're so silly," she smiles at him. Rapunzel brings Iduna and Elsa into the hug and hugs them all. Rapunzel let's them go unwillingly and waves at them with a sad smile. "You guys go and have fun," she says. Elsa hugs her again. "We'll be back before you know it," she whispers into her shoulder. Rapunzel nods and goes into bed and Elsa pulls up the cover for her. "Um Aunty Iduna?" She says barely whispering. "Yes Sunshine?" Rapunzel smiled timidly at the nickname Iduna had given to her. "Could you sing that lullaby for me please, the one you used to sing for me and Elsa?" "Of course Sunshine," she says with a smile. Rapunzel propped her head on Elsa's lap and closed her eyes with a smile. Elsa held her cousin and stroked her long blonde hair.
Iduna started singing softly, this lullaby was one she had sung the girls since they were little girls and it always made them fall asleep or calm down, whichever was necessary. After the song, Iduna had to shake Elsa to wake her back up. "Come on, Snowflake," she whispered. "time to go,".
They left the house fully wrapped, although Iduna had forced Elsa to wear more layers since she insisted the cold never bothered her. They sat in Their black SUV and started on the road. "I can't believe you're already an adult Elsie," Her father told her tears stinging his eyes. Elsa squints in the darkness. "Papa are you crying?" she says astonished. Agnarr usually fake cried but she'd never in her twenty two years of living seen her father cry. "I'm sorry, Elsie," he said wiping his eyes. "it just seems like yesterday that you were born and still a tiny baby," he says looking at his wife and daughter for a second before turning back to the road. "Your mother was a sight giving birth though," he chuckles. "She sailed through the contractions thinking giving birth was the easiest thing in the world. However when she was actually in labor it was a whole different story cursing left, right and center, about 'I thought this was going to be fucking easy ''Why the fuck did you get me pregnant for Agnarr Winters!' Agnarr says in his best Iduna voice. "Haha, very funny," Iduna pouts sarcastically. "Sometimes I wonder why I married you," she says In a low voice. "Its because you love me baby," Agnarr tells her smirking. "I'm not sure if you love me anymore," Iduna says smirking in the dark at Agnarr's expression. "Well, I love you mama," Elsa said with a proud grin. "More than Papa,". Agnarr immediately retorts "Of course you don't Elsie," "I do," Elsa tells him with a stubborn face. Once Agnarr saw that stubborn face he immediately let's it go. He has had so many experiences with that face first from Iduna, when they were still young, then Elsa when she was old enough and since then both of them. He knew that every time they put on that face. They must and will win that argument at all costs and that they weren't backing down ever. "ok Elsie you love her more than me," he says with a sigh but that was replaced with a grin when he saw his daughters face relax. "Its pretty quiet on the road," Iduna comments. Her husband and daughter agree. "So where do you think we're going Els?" Her mother questioned. "Honestly I have no clue* Elsa replied after thinking for a moment. "Ok, we're going to-" Iduna stopped mid sentence. "What is it Mama?" Elsa asked. They were on a pretty narrow one-way road. Iduna put a finger on her daughters mouth and Elsa watched as her mother's eyes grew in fear as she watched her husband. Agnarr slowed the car down seemingly hearing whatever his wife was hearing. Iduna climbed into the backseat quickly and held Elsa tight. Agnarr kissed Iduna and looked at his girls with a sad smile. Elsa could actually see him crying this time. Iduna looked at him in pure fear. "Wait! Agnarr, please!, Please!" Agnarr looked at her an Elsa sadly then put his hands on the wheel and turned the car around barely fitting. Elsa's mind finally clicked as she heard the rolling wheels and honking of a truck as it came speeding towards them. "PAPA!" she screamed. Iduna hid Elsa's head in the chest and squeezed her whispering her name over and over and over...
Elsa opens her eyes and the first thing she felt was an agonizing pain on her back. She hears people shouting and opens her eyes. "Oh Gosh its Winters' family," one said in panic. Elsa could barely keep her eyes open so she closed them. She only let out a whimper when her mother's body was lifted off of her. "Come on honey," another man said as they retrieved her from the wreckage she was brought into the ambulance. Where a doctor talked to her in a soothing voice, but the only soothing voice to Elsa was her mother's. "I really need you to stay awake Miss Winters." Elsa tried her best but she just couldn't she could feel the world closing in on her as she fell into the world of darkness.
When she next woke up, it was quite the opposite to before everything was light and she could hear someone…crying? She turned her head slowly to see her blonde cousin sitting in the chair beside her and she was bawling her eyes out. "P-Punzie?" she said shakily. Rapunzel looked up with pure sorrow in her eyes as she slowly turned to look at Elsa. Rapunzel let out another sob as she grabbed a hold of Elsa and desperately clung to her. "I-I thought I'd lost you," she sobs into her. "Sorry," Elsa told her tears running down her face. "I broke my promise," she told her cousin. "I know you don't like to be alone at night, without me," she told her. "Don't worry about me Elsa Winters!" she wiped her tears furiously. "You almost died! For Gods sake!" she softened when she saw her younger cousin wince at her volume. "I'm sorry for yelling and I'm sorry for leaving you lot by yourself," she takes a deep breath to hold her tears in. "And don't tell me your sorry, because there's nothing you need to apologize for. Now I should really call the doctor to check up on you, give me a couple of minutes will you," she hugs her again before running off, scared to leave Elsa alone for long, afraid what just happened was all a dream and Elsa was still in her mini coma.
She came back with a doctor, who checked up on Elsa, and said she was fine apart from her external injuries her back. The doctor wanted to speak with Rapunzel for a few minutes so they left the room which left Elsa to think. Her mind wandered and she remembered that she hadn't seen her parents since she had woken up, that left her mind to imagine all kinds of horrible things that might have happened to them. She tried to push the images out of her head but they came back stronger than ever. The silence around Elsa began to suffocate her, without realizing it she began to hyperventilate. The machines around her begun making noises bit her brain couldn't register she began to feel the room closing in on her and she closed her eyes in desperation. She miraculously didn't hear Rapunzel screaming at the Doctor to do something neither her crying her name out in desperation. She didn't even feel the needle that was stuck into her all she felt was the darkness take over her once again.
When her eyes reopened, this time along with Rapunzel were her aunt and uncle. Seeing that she was awake her aunt hugged her with a strength Elsa never knew she possessed. "Ouch," she croaked out feeling her airway constricted. "Oh shoot sorry, Els," she said letting her go. Her uncle hugged her next and when Rapunzel hugged her she climbed into the bed and buried her head in Elsa's chest sniffling. Before her aunt could open her mouth again the doctor walked in. "Oh good, you're awake Miss Winters," she said shifting her glasses on her nose. "Well I'm gonna need to ask you some important questions, Soo…," she said glancing at the Corona family. Frederick and Ariana understood and started to walk away, However, Rapunzel stayed put. "Um Miss Corona?" The Doctor told her. Rapunzel and Elsa both gave the woman such ferocious glares that she gulped and said a hasty 'never mind'. Ariana and Frederick leave and Elsa swears she hears Ariana say "that's from my side of my family," proudly to her husband.
The woman clears her throat before asking Elsa her first question, clearly awkward of Rapunzel's presence. "Miss Winters, was this the first time something like that has happened to you?" "Yes," replied Elsa. "Do you have any idea what happened there?" "No, I was just-" she stops. "Mhmm, Go on," the doctor presses her. Rapunzel squeezes her hand reassuringly. "I was wondering what had happened to my p-parents," She squeezes Rapunzel's hand tighter seeking comfort as tears come to her eyes. She received it as Rapunzel whispered comforting words in her ear. "So, you wanna know what happened to your parents?" The Doctor, sounding stressed and tired, she suddenly looked older as wrinkles showed with pure emotion but it was gone in a second. "No,". Rapunzel suddenly jumped up "No, no, no, not yet," she said hair long hair going everywhere as she shook her head desperately. Her green eyes filled with fear and horror. "She needs to know, Miss Corona," the nurse said dread written on her face. "They could-". "DON'T finish that sentence," Rapunzel warned her, her finger up and her eyes flaring. The nurse sighed. "Miss Corona, when do you want her to find out by then it may be-". Rapunzel sighed heavily before turning back to an extremely paled Elsa. This freaked her out since Elsa was already really pale. She took Elsa's hand into her own. "If you want to know Els, I wouldn't stop you," she says. "But just know I'll ALWAYS be here for you, ok?". Elsa nods in response and started to get up with Rapunzel's help. "The nurse picked up a pair of crutches and held them up to Elsa but Elsa eyed the things like they were swarming with cockroaches and mold. The nurse saw the look and immediately put them back almost believing they did for a second.
Elsa didn't have much time to her mind wander until they were standing in front of the white door. Rapunzel gave Elsa a nervous smile and asked. "Are you ready?" she said uneasily. "Its pretty bad especially your father,". Elsa nodded a tiny bit uncertain but she pushed that thought away.
Rapunzel opened the door and helped her in. Elsa couldn't help but let out a gasp at the sight she brought her good hand up to her mouth as she felt a river of tears coming. Rapunzel held her tight. "We could go if you want Elsa," she said softly looking at her eyes tears in hers too. Elsa just shook her head and went to her mother's side, with Rapunzel's aid. "Mama," she whispered, taking her mother's hand weary of the bandage around it. "She's on some medication right now, for the pain," Rapunzel told her. Elsa could only nod her eyes never leaving her mother's form. A few meters away lay Agnarr Winters. Elsa could see the uneven sharp breaths from her father and it broke her heart. She looked at Rapunzel who nodded and the girls made their way to Agnarr's side of the second bed. Agnarr was hooked up to a lot of machines and even then barely looked stable. Elsa put her hand through her father's hair, tears shining on her icy blue eyes. Her father had strawberry-blonde hair, and Elsa had loved to put her hand through it ever since she was a baby. Agnarr let out a groan at his daughters touch and his hand twitched as he slowly opened his green eyes identical to his nieces. He looked at his daughter and niece tears showing in his eyes. Elsa let out a sob and hugged her father. Elsa was afraid. She was afraid that her parents wouldn't make it and she would be left alone, she would have her aunt, uncle and cousin, Gerda and Kai and Olaf and Marshmallow (they didn't really count due to their own current situation) but it just wouldn't be the same.
She don't know how long she stayed there for, sobbing her heart out until Rapunzel tapped her shoulder signaling it was time to go. Rapunzel understood Elsa didn't want to go but the doctor had to check up on he aunt and uncle so she lifted her younger cousin up and into a hug.
It had been a week, since Elsa had woken up and she spent every possible minute with her parents she knew when the doctors came to check on her and her parents so whenever it wasn't those times she'd sneak over to her parents room to be by their side.
Gerda had caught her once but surprisingly didn't tell her off instead she gave Elsa a loving hug and told her that she understood. Gerda had once been in the same position as Elsa but never had the guts to go and visit her parents when she wasn't supposed to and in doing so lost valuable time with her parents before they died. She knew that Elsa needed her parents right now and needed reassurance they were getting better..
It was the end of January, and Elsa was having her usual check-up, she was to be released the next day, she was pretty bored and counting down the time in which she could see her parents again. Agnarr's condition was still the same however Iduna looked as if she was improving she had regular conversations with her daughter and she smiled a lot. Rapunzel was also in the room to make sure she behaved for the doctor who had desperately called her in order to get Elsa to cooperate with her. Elsa began to notice that a lot more doctors were going into her parents room she caught her cousins eye and saw that she had noticed too. Elsa had got up pushing the doctor away carelessly forgetting that she was the daughter of the famous people in the country, forgetting the doctor could tell someone and ruin her and her family's reputation, forgetting the many manners her parents had taught her and forgetting her own injuries.
She ran into the room with Rapunzel right beside her. Agnarr and Iduna Winters were holding hands as their daughter watched them take their last breath. Elsa stood frozen in shock as the machines made identical noises at the exact same time. The dreadful beep sound that changes your life forever, the same sound people never want to hear in a hospital room. Her nightmares had come true, her parents were dead, her brain couldn't function properly as she let the news sink in, just like that Elsa felt something clench at her chest and grip tightly, the news breaking her on the inside. She felt the same sensation as she gulped desperately for air she tried to stop but couldn't the reality hitting her too hard. Before, losing consciousness she saw her cousin eyes, filled with the same grief and horror, the ones identical to her father, a tear slipped as she entered darkness once more.
Elsa regained consciousness and the first thing she saw was her Aunt's face. Before she could even exhale her aunt hugged her just like her mother does, no did? Elsa felt a wave of emotions and began to sob as she remembered that they were the only blood relatives she had left. She don't know how long she cried but she eventually fell exhausted and fell asleep in the same position.
Ariana soon realized that her niece had fell asleep but she didn't let her go. "What are we gonna do, Ariana?" Her husband told her worriedly. "What does the w-will say,' she says shakily. Although they were grown ups Agnarr still treated her like she was still a little girl with her big brother but now, Ariana rubbed at her face. Wiping away her tears as to not wake Elsa up. "Iduna said she would never write a will as she knew that everything would go to her daughter." Frederick told her with a frown. "But that's not official," she said with her eyebrows knitted together In a frown. "Ari, she had the stubborn face on what was I supposed to do?". "If we take her what would happen to the house? We can't just throw that on Gerda and Kai," Ariana said in a panicked tone. "Calm down honey, we'll let Elsa decide she'll know what's best for her.". "No she wouldn't she won't want to disappoint anyone with her answer and her mind isn't strong enough to decide what's best for her at the moment," Their daughter said form the door. "Punzel? When did you come? How much did you hear?". "Most mom," Rapunzel replied in a serious tone which was extremely unusual for her. It was the fact that she had lost her aunt and uncle and her cousin wasn't doing well at all as well as the fact that her parents had tried to hide as much grief as they could in front of her, especially her mother, she hasn't been the same since but that was to be expected she knew that she would be much worse if she lost Elsa and that had almost happened 3 times In about a month.
"Uncle Agnarr has written a will," she tells her parents her expression barely changing. "Its in Elsa's room," she continued. "He put it there so Iduna wouldn't find it she would never search Elsa's stuff without permission, well not after the incident," she said with a slightest hint of a smirk. "But the point I'm trying to make is the main reason he out it there was for Elsa to find it," she explained. "It should be underneath the box with all of Elsa's baby pictures, well the ones in her room, of course,". "Punzel," her mother said with tears in her eyes. Rapunzel hugged her mother as Ariana's hands were occupied and Frederick hugged them all. "We're gonna make the next best decision when it comes to Elsa and her living situation since she's 21, so you think she's ready to read the will?" "Of course not I'm not even ready," Ariana told him. "Ok, and the paparazzi what are we gonna do about them, I think once Elsa gets out of hospital Gerda and Kai will take her to wherever we agree on. You know the paparazzi don't know them for these kind of reasons." Ariana agreed. Gerda and Kai then entered the room just then and took of their disguises. "Hey," Gerda whispered her voice hoarse. They had just heard the news and had just got there, Kai was so distraught he could only nod in greeting.
Gerda walked over to Ariana and took the sleeping Elsa into her arms sobbing quietly. Rapunzel let out a sob involuntarily watching the exchange and was pulled into a hug by her mother who was already crying. She tried to be strong for her daughter and niece but it was really hard at the same time losing your sibling and your best friend/sister-in-law was a lot to process especially with their daughter, her niece, being stuck in the hospital again. They all sat in a mournful silence, with only the weeping and sobbing breaking the silence.
It had been a couple of hours since Gerda and Kai arrived, when Gerda suddenly felt the grip on her shirt tighten in a familiar way a wave of déjà vu washed over her as she revisited the unpleasant memory.
Gerda held the sleeping 7-year old Elsa. She had had a long day and was exhausted, she had played the whole day being a mischievous little girl playing 'Wild Animals' she had played it with Rapunzel in school and she had continued to be one by herself when she got back home. Gerda felt the little fist tighten the hold on her shirt and she frowned. Elsa had starts writhing and squirming in her arms and she had started screaming and crying, her shocking blue eyes flew open and she looked at Gerda tears racing down her face. She threw her little arms around Gerda and cried loudly also to the point of screaming. "What happened Els?" Gerda asked her heartbroken at the sight. Elsa tried to speak but couldn't so she continued to bawl clearly traumatized by her dream. "Come on Els, tell me please," she said holding the child protectively. "M-m-mama a-a-a-and p-p-papa DEAD!" she continued bawling her little eyes out. Gerda was taken aback by that but recovered quickly. "They're not dead darling," she told her wiping her face. "Do you wanna speak to them?" Elsa hiccupped but nodded slightly. Elsa watched wiping her tears on Gerda's chest, as Gerda picked up the phone and called someone her mind drifted off and she couldn't help but remember the dream. Fresh tears started coming and she heard Gerda shout something before slamming the phone back and rushing over to her, pulling her close. "Do you wanna tell me what happened. "Mama and Papa died, Gerda, and you and Kai left and said you only stayed with me because you were friends with my parents not me. Uncle Frederick and Aunty Ariana said that they only like me before because I was their niece and punzie said that I was only her favorite cousin because I was the most famous kid in the city," Elsa told Gerda as she burst into tears again.
She didn't calm down properly until her parents came rushing in a few minutes later, they were busy with work but they hear one thing about their baby and they're there in record time. Agnarr had picked Elsa up and held her to his chest protectively.
He whispered soothing things in her ears then held her as close as possible after calming her down mostly, Iduna took her and sang her her lullaby which sent her straight back to sleep. "Thank you Gerda," Agnarr said with a sincere smile. Gerda waved him off. "Don't you dare thank me again," she warned him with a glare.
Gerda went tense at the memory and then it started she started squirming about in a very in-elsa like way. Her face in a very deep frown then a single tear fell out after she started crying softly in her sleep as Gerda held her tighter and gently rocked her. It hadn't stopped for a very long time it was only until Rapunzel took her in her arms and sang her Iduna's lullaby.
After she got released from hospital, Elsa Winters changed. She was no longer the bright, easily flustered and cheerful girl she once was. She was no longer the rich daughter of the Winters family That perfect girl was gone. Now people saw her as the Ice Queen, courtesy of Hans, she became her father in his work attitude. Fierce and Intimidating looking down upon those she must and not taking any bullshit from anyone.
A\N That was the end of the prologue I never realized the time gap so Elsa will have two or three years in her senior year.
