(Sakura's POV)
I brace myself, for I know that this could very well be the last battle I ever fight. To destroy the Sound Village, to save my Sasuke-kun. A test of my love. I remember the very first "test of love", retrieving the bells from Kakashi-sensei. This couldn't compare to the mission laid before me today.
Of course, every battle I fight has a chance of failure on my part. Every battle could be the last. It is by skill and luck and teamwork that I have made it as far as I have, and that I get to fight this maybe-last-battle with my teammates.
Some of the best nin are there, fighting beside me. Naruto is there, tense and eager to fight, and I blush as he glances at me. Ino is there, staring blankly ahead; Neji is there, Kakashi is there, as well as Anko, Lee, and other nin I remember from my past experience. Some look excited, others scared, and my heart leaps into my throat.
How many of these ninjas will return?
The fight erupts around me, Sound nin versus Konoha and our allies from Sunagakure. It becomes very apparent that this battle will be tough, as my teammates begin falling around me.
I see Kiba take a fatal hit to the chest, falling limply to the ground, as I fight off a Sound Chunin. And suddenly, I begin to feel sick. I dodge a kunai blow much like the one that claimed Kiba's life, retaliating with a stab of my own. I catch my opponent's skin, and blindly I thrust the knife deeper. I hear a groan of pain, and the sound nin falls to the ground.
"No..."
This was the first word to pass my lips since the start of the battle.
Ino-pig.
Her blue eyes blink twice before she falls, a tiny moan escaping her lips at the pain of the explosive jutsu used.
The jutsu not directed at her, but the jutsu that took her life all the same. "INO-CHAN!" I shout to the wind, but to no avail.
I was too late, and I know that this was Ino's final battle.
I pray that it will be mine as well.
