Over Christmas during Harry, Ron and Hermione's 6th year, they and Ginny join Remus Lupin at Grimmauld place. Somehow, the foursome starts talking about the Marauders, asking all sorts of questions. Harry's main one was basically what his father was like.
"Well," Lupin replied, "he was a nice guy with a bit of an ego. He hated having nothing to do and didn't like rules too much. Actually, he was kind of like you. To be honest with you, all of you would have made great Marauders. We, James, Sirius and I, created the art but you guys perfected it."
"So, we could be Marauders?" Ginny asked.
"Course you can. To be true Marauders you need to be able to transform though."
"But none of us can." Ron pointed out.
"Plus doesn't it take a while? Wait, unless you're saying that you have the potion ready and are willing to coach us." Hermione said.
"Aren't you the clever one? Actually I do have four doses of the potion and yes I will coach you. It should take only a few hours for you to get the concept and the just practise."
They each took a bit of the potion from Lupin and one by one they drank the potion. As they did, they transformed for 5 minutes into their animal form showing them both what the animal was and how it felt to transform. Harry had gone first and his animal turned out to be a black stallion. Ginny went next and turned into a beautiful chestnut mare. Ron, who decided that he didn't want to go last, went next. He turned into a tabby cat with red fur. Hermione went last and turned into a wise old owl.
Each was amazed at what their forms were and decided that they wanted to learn as soon as possible.
By the end of the afternoon, each could transform pretty well on command. That would just take practice. The new Marauders decided that they should also choose names for themselves. Ron was the easiest to name, Purzz. Ginny became Chestnut and Harry became Charger. Those weren't very hard either. Hermione took a while before settling on a name. She would be Messenger.
With their new names and forms, they decided that they torch had been passed and the new Marauders set out for their next adventure.
