"Talking"
'Thinking'
Etc etc…
……………………………………………………..
The people here had weird accents…
Harry didn't like it. He felt singled out, just like back home.
Snape didn't seem to mind it, but I guess he IS the one who cares about nothing.
'Am I ready for this?' He thought.
"Potter hurry your ass up, I called a cab and we need to catch it!" yelled Snape from near the front doors, this airport seemed rather empty compared to the others, so it was easy to keep the older man in his sight.
Harry hurried over to him with his heavy luggage and psychadelic kitty and together they walked into the bright sunlight of a Saskatoon August.
……………………………………………………………
"This cab smells…" Harry muttered to his Professor. Snape pretended he wasn't there.
"Fine ignore me then." Said Harry sarcastically. "Ill just talk to the cab driver. Hey mister cab driver!"
"No talk. Me concentrate on road." Was his response.
The cab drivers here were weird… the cabs were weird! The driver's side was on the wrong side and they were driving on the wrong side of the road. These people were crazy.
They screeched to a stop in front of a grubby little motel.
"What's this?" Harry asked cautiously as they walked up the walk.
Snape answered back blandly. "This is Gringotts Bank."
They walked down an empty hallway with numbered rooms, they got to room 401 and Severus knocked thee times then waited, and knocked once more.
The door burst open and on the inside was the great big beautiful magnificence of Gringotts Bank, goblins running about, just like back home in London.
"Hello, I'm Severus Snape, here's the key to my vault I would like you to take out one thousand dollars in muggle Canadian money please."
"Yes sir." Replied the goblin.
Pff… even the goblins here had funny accents.
"And anything for you sir?" asked the funny creature as he turned to Harry.
Harry looked at him blankly.
Snape nudged him and Harry took out his vault key. "Two hundred muggle Canadian money please."
Unlike in London, here they didn't take you down on the ride to the vault with them, the goblins asked you to sit down and came back within a few minutes with your money.
"Would you care to also buy a muggle wallet?"
Snape pulled out one and put his money in it. "Already got one."
Harry looked at his coin pouch. It would be rather useless with all those bills. "Yeah ill take one."
He picked out a black one with a red X in one corner.
…………………………………………………………
As they were walking out the door Harry asked. "Where are we going now?"
"To show you where I will be working, then where my apartment is and then to your foster home."
"Oh okay…"
Harry fingered the wand in his back pocket, for reassurance. He no even no longer had Hedwig to console him; she was taken away to some owlery so he wouldn't attract suspicion, he would get her back when all this was over. All the mail would have to be just like muggle mail.
Harry sighed as they got into the smelly cab again.
……………………………………………………..
Snape sent the cab off, paying the driver.
"Okay Potter this is my apartment building, it is room number four in the basement. You will not bother me there, and when I get my… oh what's it called… muggle communication thing-"
"A telephone?" interrupted Harry.
"Yes a telephone, once I get one you will not call me on it unless you are in an emergency. Got it?"
Harry sighed, "Yes Professor."
They had been to his work, a small shop in a strip mall called 'Amazing Stories', a place that sold collectors merchandise, anime, manga, posters, t-shirts, etc.
You could get pretty much anything in there, and the prices are high but reasonable, so Severus will be able to actually make a living off of this.
"Oh by the way, so our wands don't become suspicious I'm going to put a charm on them."
Harry looked curious, "What kind of charm."
Snape looked at him as if he was stupid, "Just a charm that well basically makes your wand vanish, but the power of it is still inside you and you will be able so summon it whenever you need it and it will vanish again once your finished with it. I wouldn't recommend using it unless you are in danger and it is completely necessary."
"Fine by me." Harry replied. "So where am I going to live?"
Snape pointed down the street.
Snape mumbled something under his breath and Harry's wand dissappeared in a burts of sparks, along with Severus'.
…………………………………………
They walked two blocks and stopped in front of a smallish white house with blue windowsills, a metallic purple 1967 Shelby GT and a hot pink buggie sat in the driveway.
"Wow nice car!" muttered Harry as they walked by the Shelby GT.
Ringing the doorbell they waited on the step, Harry fidgeting nervously.
The door opened and the nice looking old lady in the doorway was the total opposite of what Harry was expecting.
"Why hello dear! You must be Harry? And his uncle, Mr. Snape?" she exclaimed.
"Call me Severus." He said to her politely.
Harry stared at him.
"Oh will do Severus, I'm Mrs. Robins. Why don't you guys come in? Meet the rest of the family. Ill show you where your room will be, would you like some cookies?"
"Uhh…" Harry stuttered as he was being gently pushed down on a very comfortable couch along with his 'uncle'.
He looked across from him and there was a very, and I mean very tall old man who looked stern and friendly at the same time… kind of a weird combination.
"Hi I'm Mr. Robins." Said the man in a gruff voice, extending his hand for Snape to shake.
"Nice to meet you Mr. Robins." Snape nodded.
"So we will be taking this boy for awhile eh?"
What was with that slang? Eh? What's that supposed to mean?
"Yes sir I assume you know all the information?" Snape said professionally.
"COOKIES!" yelled Mrs. Robins from the kitchen. Her husband smiled, stood up and ushered the two black haired guests toward the kitchen.
There was another guy sitting at the table. Mrs. Robins introduced them.
"Harry this is Jeremy, he is my grandson and will be living in the room right next to yours."
"Hi…" muttered Harry shyly.
"Hello welcome to Saskatoon." Jeremy replied in a cheery friendly voice, it didn't suit him.
He was wearing a baggy black muscle shirt with a yellow Mustangs jersey over top of it, baggy blue jeans that hung past his ass and showed his boxers.
Mr. And Mrs. Robins looked at him lovingly.
"Hey grandma? Can I show him to his room? I bet he wants to unpack and make himself at home." Jeremy said nodding at the heavy trunk waiting in the front hall.
"Oh yes yes, go right ahead," she then turned to Harry. "Here you go dear." And put about seven fresh out of the oven chocolate chip cookies in his hand and pushed him gently towards the door.
His room was downstairs in the basement, and once they were out of earshot of the people upstairs Jeremy snatched all the cookies but one out of his hands and said.
"Okay buddy… the basement is my domain, you can be in your room and on the stairs and sometimes in the living room when I'm not here but if I catch you in my room ever I will beat you to a pulp."
He pointed to a door near the end of the basement.
"That's your room, your lucky there's a lock on your door." The boy said fiercely then closed himself in a room near the stairs.
…
'Well that was weird…'
The inside of his room was nice and roomy, a single bed off to one side and a big closet. He even had his own bathroom! How lucky could he get?
He started to take out the clothing in his trunk and put them in the dresser in one corner, when he stopped to look at them.
"I need new clothes." He then threw them in a pile near the door.
He then ate the cookie… and what a damned good cookie it was.
After unpacking all his stuff, he didn't have much; he sat on his bed and wondered what this was going to be like.
He looked at his horntail figurine that was glaring at him from his bedside table and blowing smoke out its nostrils.
Harry sighed and went to make his way back upstairs.
As he passed Jeremy's room he heard loud bass and some guy rapping.
Oh did he ever hate rap.
'Jeremy… you're an ass.'
……………………………
Upstairs he was once again given a huge amount of cookies and was seated at the table.
"Would you like anything to drink deary?" asked the elderly lady.
"Umm… yes please" He muttered back still not used to all the niceness.
Snape and Mr. Robins were in a deep discussion about god knows what and Mrs. Robins sat down beside him, handed him a huge glass of chocolate milk and started to chatter away.
"Okay Harry here's your house key, the rules here are you can go out whenever you want as long as you want whenever you want but you have to tell either me or my husband or leave a note as you are about to leave and about what time you will get home. You will be getting a weekly allowance of fifty dollars and if you ever need money for a concert or new clothing or for a date you can just ask, we have more then enough, you must try to do your best at school and I trust you will, I heard you were one of the top in your old school am I right?"
"Uhh…"
"Of course I'm right. OH! By the way we got you a welcome present! A brand new stereo! And a fallout boy CD, we weren't sure what kind of music you would like so I just got the one that looked the coolest, here ill get my husband to set up your desk and the stereo okay? Okay. HONEY!"
Mr. Robins already knew what he had to do and made his way downstairs to set up.
"So Severus! What will you be doing while living in Saskatoon?"
Snape stared at her for a second then answered. "I will be working at the Amazing Stories shop in Bedford Square."
"Oh! Yeah I've heard of that place! Where will you be staying?"
"Just down the street in the apartments."
"Oh! Sounds like fun! How did-"
Harry then tuned them out, he was exhausted, London to Saskatoon was about a six hour difference. He began to doze.
………………………………..
The sound of his new guardians voice woke him up.
"Oh Harry dear! Your stuff is set up you may now go to bed you must be tired! We will be going shopping tomorrow okay? Then you will be going to school the day after… sound good?"
Harry nodded, rubbing his eyes.
"Harry I'm leaving now." Said Snape to the sleepy teen.
"Okay bye."
He walked down the stairs to his room, changed into his pajamas, finally figured out how to use the CD player and remote and put in his new CD… it wasn't bad.
'Thank Merlin that greasy ass is gone.' Was his last thought before falling into a deep sleep to the song 'Dance Dance.'
