The original "My Last Duchess" was written by Robert Browning, this version was written by Obsidian Snow Eyes and she has granted me permission to turn it into a fic using the characters from a wonderful creation of Joanne Rowling.
My Last Duchess
The famed manners of Malfoy Manor have been passed down from father to son through generations
My last wife was pretty,
beautiful, happy and free.
She smiled at every person
and was glad of every gift.
Lowly fools served her dinner
and she thanked them with a grin.
That grin was too happy,
that grin thanked too quick,
Everyday it was displayed
to everybody she met.
I gave her diamonds – she smiled,
She found some flowers and laughed.
Every morning she'd watch the sun,
and grin at all she met.
Soon, something took over,
My nature sought to possess
The wild, heady freedom
That I had never felt.
Now, no light shines from her eyes,
No breath passes her lips.
Sleep ne'er falls from those eyes
That are now cast in paint.
I gave the order to end it –
That faithless smile and laugh,
And now that painting before you now
Will always be her last.
Wait, sir, don't run down the stairs
I, too, am eager to meet my new bride.
But never run, never demean yourself
to the joy of fools.
Stature must prevail.
See that statue?
It's Neptune – King of the Sea.
He's powerful, like me.
I control the land;
He controls the sea.
Together, we powerful,
Will rule the world someday.
Now let's go down to see my bride
a breath of fresh air
in this dark house
full of portraits
Love,
x Imperial Princess x
