Chapter 4
"I'll sit here and hold your hand the whole time"
Varian was now fitted in a nice, comfortable pair of pants, a white shirt with garters, and a new apron, since Cassandra took notice to the apron. Cassandra had fixed Varian's goggles for him and gave them to him, so Varian was now wearing those.
He slowly came out of the tent, looked around and saw all the guards, nurses, doctors and retracted back into the tent, causing Cassandra to push him out of the tent gently, requiring him to go outside anyway. "Sorry, you're going to have to see the nurses." Cassandra sighed.
Varian shook his head profusely, "No, no, no-"
"Varian." She said sternly.
"Nein!" Varian spoke in his native tongue.
Cassandra growled, then responded, putting her hand tightly on his shoulder; "Ja!" She said back.
"I can do that too." Cassandra hissed.
Varian whined the whole way to the nurses. "He's clearly upset with other people, so please be careful and calm around him, don't scare him, or else." Cassandra looked at the nurses. Varian squirmed in Cassandra's arms, which were grasping his shoulders tightly.
"I will be very careful with him, thank you for allowing me to do this, Ma'am." The nurse nodded and gently grabbed Varian's arm, causing him to flail it and get out of Cassandra's grasp. He dashed off, but Cassandra caught him and held him close, putting his cheek to her chest. "Hey, hey...It's okay... It's just for a little while...okay?" Cassandra said, though she had a soothing voice, she was clearly frustrated, expression-wise. Varian's eyes watered and tears rolled down his cheeks, he was scared, he felt like a helpless animal with no mother or father around to protect him. He was alone, no one was here for him, except for this lady, Cassandra.
The encounter with the Saporians scarred him and he wasn't very pleased to be around people he didn't actually know. Varian sobbed, but Cassandra continued to hold him, gently rocking him side-to-side, trying to comfort him. She stroked his hair gently too...
"No...I don't want to..." Varian's voice cracked, which hadn't happened in a while.
"I know, it's scary... But these people want to help you, like I wanted to help you... They won't hurt you, and if they do, I'll hurt them back. Okay?" Cassandra said, the last little bit causing a smirk to spread like butter across her face. The nurses shuffled nervously at that, no way did they want to get into a fight with Cassandra, they'd be extra careful with Varian now.
"I'll sit here and hold your hand the whole time, if that'll make you feel better." Cassandra slowly pulled Varian away from her chest. Varian looked at her, staring with his glassy, watering blue eyes. "Ye...Yes, that'll...mhm..." Varian's voice faltered and cracked, sniffling and sobbing still.
Cassandra warmly smiled and helped Varian to the nurses and doctors.
As the nurses and doctors checked Varian's wounds, exchanged the bandages out with new ones after recleaning the surface and wound, made sure his fever had went away, and did a typical, doctor's check-up, like reflex, hearing and sight testing. It had been scary for him...but...
Cassandra...
She held his hand as much as possible.
It was warm, and soft, and he wanted her hand to cradle his for hours and hours...
He loved the feeling that ran through him when holding her hand, the fuzzy and warm feeling...
He felt at least a little safe, as long as he held her hand and she was nearby.

And that was all! I was actually going to write a lot more, but I couldn't come up with anything else and this sounded like the perfect place to end it.
