TEACHERS ARE YOUR FRIENDS AND THEY ARE THERE TO HELP
I walk into the forum where they make an announcement for the freshmen in high school. This is where they tell you lies. Like teachersareyourfriendsdon'tbescaredofthem and they say it really fast so they don't have to live up to what they said. I don't believe it for a minute.
I laugh.
Some kids look at me, and I know they are thinking nutcase. They are not going to talk to me because that would make them look like freaks as well. Don't talk to the outcasts, it will make you one as well. That is the truth.
Of course they would deny it.
The principal is standing at the podium, starting his lies.
"We are your friends. We will discipline you if you do bad things. Do not be afraid of us. Blahblahblah."
I zone out, his voice sounding like the buzzing of a fly that's about to die. I made a rhyme. That's funny. I laugh again.
The boy who was sitting next to me scoots away. He does not want to be linked to the crazy boy. I don't blame him. If I were him I wouldn't want to be him either.
Everybody gets up and leaves. I sit there for five more minutes before realizing it's over.
We are free now.
But we are going to another prison right after.
WHO I AM
My first class is English.
I get lost and I'm late. I push in without getting a pass and sit down.
My first tardy of the year.
The old Me never would have done this. The old Me would have gotten a pass and begged for forgiveness.
But the old Me is dead.
The new Me is who I am now.
I don't think I like Who I Am.
