She'd heard about this before. Read about it in paranormal magazines, heard it mentioned in ghost stories. This is what they called an outer body experience. She could see her self floating, levitating on a wind she couldn't feel. It tugged at her hair and clothes. Pushed and pulled and wrapped around her. Beautiful.
She looked down and saw herself lying on the ground. She couldn't see her face. (Was she really that high up?) It was blurry. And hadn't she been there with someone? And hadn't she been there for a reason? Reasons. She couldn't remember any of them anymore.
The wind tugged and pulled harder and she heard music. A violin. It started low, so low it made her uncomfortable. She could feel in her chest, in her throat. And then the sound rose, higher and higher, and she imagined she was doing the same. Higher. She couldn't see body as clearly as before and realized it wasn't smaller, just smudged around the edges, and still she rose. Higher and higher and...
Her eyes snapped open and she heard everyone around her exhale (or maybe it's the wind she was remembering).
There is a pause, long enough that she starts to miss the music, and then Squall reaches out a hand to her.
"Lets go," he muttered, but it almost sounded too loud in the silence.
That was the day Rinoa almost died.
