When Donald, Goofy, and King Mickey went back to their own world, everything returned to normal. Selphie, Tidus, and Wakka continued through life like there was nothing out of the ordinary. But the others knew what really happened.
Sora lay on the sand napping, like he used to a while back. Kairi wasn't far behind and decided to join him, instead of waking him up. Both laid there, with the soothing sound of the ocean drifting them to a slightly deeper sleep. Just when Kairi was really going to fall asleep, she felt a hand close over hers and squeeze gently. She smiled and felt a tear roll down her cheek.
At that moment, Riku passed by and stopped abruptly. A tinge of jealousy filled his heart as he watched the peaceful scene before him. Sure, he was glad that all of them were together again, but deep in his heart he knew that Sora and Kairi were meant to be. He'd just be a third wheel. Just when he was about to leave, he heard Sora call out to him,
"Riku, don't go."
And a second later, Kairi called him too.
"Stay here. With us."
And just like that, his jealousy diminished. He shook his head from side to side, mentally calling himself an idiot, and joined his best friends. As soon as he lay down, he felt Sora grasp his hand as well. He too smiled and drifted off to sleep, along with the most important people in his life.
All three remembered the last time they did this, laying on the sand, dreaming of traveling to other worlds in their little wooden ship.
