The Man Who Never Sleeps

The raven haired boy lay in bed. He was tired, exhausted of the world, and yet sleep would not come to him. Sometimes it was so bad, his hand strayed to his kunai, hoping to end this and join the rest of his clan whom he had killed.

Itachi rolled over and tried to shove the image of his little brother's face out of his head, but it was no use. The look of horror on his brother's face stuck in his head like it was glued in. Itachi slammed his fist down on the mattress and sat up. He was sick of this. He sat up; these feelings were so conflicting.

"Darn you, Sasuke," he muttered under his breath. Tugging on his shirt, Itachi slid out of bed. "Why don't you let me sleep?" he demanded of his little brother, who wasn't there to hear him curse and watch as he kicked the wall. Itachi walked out into the night.

He sat down in the dewy grass and tried to clear his mind. The one thing he couldn't get rid of was the thing that bugged him the most. Itachi buried his head in his hands.

"Stupid little brother…" he murmured. If Kisame saw me like this he would lose all respect for me… Somehow though, Itachi didn't care. Maybe I made the wrong decision…I shouldn't have… Itachi groaned and stood up. The moon was watching him. Itachi's eyes drifted to his feet, he didn't even know why he'd killed them anymore. And now they watch me from beyond with hateful eyes…

The oldest Uchiha turned to walk back into his room, but he wasn't sure he could face another sleepless night, alone with guilty thoughts and the horror in Sasuke's eyes. If he could take back the horror in those eyes, the fear, Itachi decided that he would because Sasuke was his brother. Brothers look after each other, no matter what. Whether or not Sasuke believed that, Itachi had no idea. After what I did he has every reason to hate my guts. Itachi sighed. But you can't exactly un-kill people.

Tiredly he walked back to his room and lay down.For the first time in a good while, Itachi managed to fall asleep.
