The Sunday morning he told me replays in my head. The sound my coffee cup made as I hurled it at the wall so clear. I got angry. He got angry. "Just leave, Jack." I shouted.
Promotion. New job. Is he beginning again in Washington without me?
"I want you here with me." He said into my answer-phone, the following Sunday. "I start tomorrow." I reach for the phone, only to hear the dial tone.
Monday evening. I knock on the door. After a few moments it opens. The dishevelled General looks surprised to see me.
"I need you, Jack."
