The Newsies Official King of New York Handslap Routine! Courtesy of moi, who spent less than an hour producing this. If it's not understandable, then ask. I'm sure I can find an alternative way of explaining. Warning: VERY LONG!
When doing this, it looks most like the movie when the motions are attempted fluidly. Practice until all the motions run into each other.
Step 1. Sit down in sturdy chair, preferably facing a newsie of your choice.
Step 2. Bounce knees/feet seven (7) times to music.
Step 3. On the eighth (8th) beat, slap Right hand against Left inner foot. Make sure when your hand and foot meet, it's around lap level.
Step 4. Put your Left foot down.
Step 5. Stand up, while throwing your Left hand above your head and bending back.
Step 6. Bring Left hand down.
Step 7. Turn, bent, toward chair.
Step 8. Turn back, straightened.
Step 9. Throw both hands forward
Step 10. Bring Right fist back by cheek, in a ready-punch position.
Step 11. Keep Left fist extended, touching the person's fist across from you. (If you have a partner).
Step 12. Bring Left fist back in same manner as Step 10.
Step 13. Extend Right fist to touch person's fist across from you.
Step 14. Sit down.
Okay, now here comes the actual hand-slap part. It's really not that hard, just fast.
Step 15. Slap both thighs.
Step 16. Slap Right thigh with Right hand.
Step 17. Slap Left thigh with Left hand.
Step 18. As Left hand comes up, slap the top of the Left hand with your Right hand.
Step 19. Slap Left thigh with Left hand. (Kind of a yo-yo reaction.)
Step 20. Slap Right thigh with Right hand.
Step 21. The Left hand slaps the Right hand, still on the Right thigh.
Step 22. Bring hands above head and feet up. Knees whould be around diaphragm level.
Step 23. Bring hands down so your Left hand is extended and your Right fist is at your ear, elbow behind your head, ready to punch.
Step 24. Your feet should be on the floor by the time you begin the next step.
Step 25. Bring your Left hand down. Very unceremonious.
Step 26. Arc your Right arm over your head, ending with the hand outstretched to your parter.
Step 27. Clasp hands.
Step 28. Bring hands down, for momentum.
Step 29. Stand up, still clasping hands.
Step 30. Sit down, still clasping hands.
Step 31. Stand up again, and keep the handclasp.
Step 32. Pull towards the other person.
Step 33. Relase the handclasp as you pass them.
Step 34. Stand on the opposite person's chair triumphantly.
Good job, peeps! You just did one portion of the King Of New York dance routine!
