Really, Jaina shouldn't have been surprised. This was the third war since she'd reached her majority, and in every single on of those wars, Jag Fel shown up one way or another. The first time, he'd been and ally; the second time, the enemy; and now…

…well, she didn't know. She was going to find out, though.

He was way across the battlefield with a contingent of Chiss, and from the look of their armor, they were ground troops or something – and they were preparing to cross the battlefield. He was wearing the same kind of armor as them, just smaller, and maybe that was why he didn't look like a sickly child among healthy adults like every other human did. He looked dangerous, and Jaina's lip twisted with derision. What the hell is he playing at? This isn't his fight – he's gonna get killed!

It took some doing to get across the battlefield to him, but nothing is impossible for a nimble woman with a big blaster. She zigged and zagged across the field, dodged shells and jumped over the bodies of other men. One tried to grab her. She shot him in the chest and kept moving. In two frenzied minutes of running, she'd gone half a klick through enemy fire for curiosity's sake.

That was probably why she punched Jag in the face. "What are you doing here?" she demanded as the dozen Chiss armed and pointed their weapons at her. "This isn't your place!"

Jag just shook his head and nursed his face – force-assisted blows packed quite a punch – muttering something that sounded like, "What did I do? What did I do to deserve this?"

Jaina's right hand clenched. "You're here, of course! You're not suppose to be here! I never thought I'd see you again…here…"

Jag just raised his eyebrow disbelievingly. "Really? Because I could swear that you were the one who got me involved in this whole mess…" He turned away, rotating his jaw and wincing, and motioned to one of his subordinates. "See you around, Jaina. I've got a strike to lead."

And with no further ado, he set off, grabbing a rifle as he went, Chiss following behind. Jaina just watched, mouth hard and eyes angry. He's gonna get killed

It was the work of a second to get out her blaster and adjust the light body armor. That was all she needed, really. And then she ran up the front of the formation, falling into the same easy marching rhythm as Jag.

"What do you want, Jaina?"

Jaina just shook her head and rolled her eyes. "You're as dumb as you are handsome, Jag."

And they walked across the battlefield together.
