Gregory gripped Freddy's hand tightly as he watch the moon animatronic shadowing Mike as the two got closer. While the cylinder was supposedly strong enough to keep rogue animatronics contained, it wasn't soundproof. So Dipper and Gregory easily heard everything Mike and Moon talked about. Gregory had mixed feelings about what he heard. On one hand, it confirmed that the animatronic had absolutely been trying to kill him in the daycare, but on the other, it wasn't really the animatronics fault.
It had been so much easier when things had been black and white. Freddy was good, all the other animatronics were bad, and Gregory would have felt no guilt in doing everything he had to do to survive, even if it meant destroying the robots hunting him. But now Moon was shying away from him, somehow radiating guilt despite having a permeant smile. It was hard to keep seeing these things as just machine monsters when Moon was acting so human now compared to how he had been before.
"I'm glad you're on our side again," Dipper greeted the daycare animatronic. "We'll need all the allies we can get."
"I'll do my best…" Moon replied softly before glancing at Gregory, making the boy grip Freddy's hand tighter. "Gregory… I'm sorry… I swear I never wanted to hurt you or any kid… It was all him…"
"I heard," Gregory cut in before the robot could keep apologizing. "It's a little hard to believe… but I after some of the things I've seen tonight I'm willing to believe it's true. I'm… I'm not ready to trust you yet though…"
"That's fair…" Moon winced, shuffling back a little to give Gregory more space.
"That's fine Gregory," Mike assured, making Gregory relax knowing the others weren't mad at him for his opinion. "Under other circumstances, I'd probably be the exact same way. Come on, we've been here too long. We need to move on before something corners us here."
"There's so much tech stuff in here…" Gregory said though, glancing around at everything. "Is there anything I could use to stop the other bots? I feel like I should have a long-range option to go along with the taser you guys gave me."
"Bright lights in the eyes cause us to briefly malfunction," Freddy informed, thinking it over. "I suppose a Fazerblaster or a Faz-Cam could work."
"That's not a bad idea," Mike agreed. "It'd be safe for you to have a long-range option and those will be able to disable the Glamrocks without damaging them, well except Monty."
"Where can I get one then?" Gregory asked.
"You can win a Fazerblaster in Fazer Blast," Freddy started listing off, with a slightly automatic response. "Faz-Cams are often confiscated in Monty Golf, but you will need a Party Pass to open one of those attractions. Chica normally gives them out for birthdays. Check her greenroom in Rockstar Row, you may find one there."
"Sounds like we have our next destination in mind," Dipper concluded.
"And the good thing is the services elevators lead right to Rockstar Row," Mike agreed. "It'll be a snap to just grab what we need from Chica's room and move on."
"It looks like they are all out of order except for Roxy's," Freddy informed as the group made their way to the elevators.
"What?!" Mike said in surprise, checking over the status of the elevators himself. "There are no obvious issues, and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong… they just aren't responding. This has to be deliberate!"
"Sounds like William's herding us down a specific path," Dipper grimaced. "You thinking ambush?"
"Probably." Mike agreed with a scowl. "Gregory, you might want to hide inside Freddy as we don't know what we're facing. Freds, your job is to keep him safe no matter what."
"Of course Mike," Freddy promised easily and with conviction, opening his stomach hatch for Gregory. Gregory wasted no time crawling inside, safe and hidden away. The group carefully made their way down Roxy's hallway and into the elevator. As soon as they came out they could clearly hear Roxy crying.
"I don't think William's controlling her at the moment," Mike whispered as he listened to the sobs. "At least not fully, though that's probably going to change the moment she gets sight of us. Freddy, you go first and get Gregory out safely to the other side and wait for us there."
"Yes Mike," Freddy agreed, walking through the door.
"Who's there?" Roxy asked, immediately cutting off her sobs when she heard the door open. Looking over she saw Freddy come in and immediately snapped, "Freddy! Get out of my room!"
Freddy immediately complied and Roxy soon went back to crying though more softly.
"Okay, I'll go in and distract her," Mike said once they were sure Freddy and Gregory had successfully gotten out of Roxy's room. "Once she's focused on me, you two sneak in and stun her long enough for me to manually shut her down."
"You know you don't have to be the one to distract her," Dipper protested, crossing his arms. "I'm perfectly capable of keeping her occupied while you sneak up on her."
"But I'm more likely to survive when things turn deadly," Mike immediately reasoned. "As twisted as it it is, Willam seems to want me captured alive for some reason. So she'll be held back with me where she'd be allowed to just go for the kill with you."
"He's right," Moon confirmed before Dipper could keep arguing. "Neither you nor the boy matter as much except as things he can use to strengthen himself. He wants his heir returned to him."
Both Dipper and Mike shivered slightly at the way Moon worded it as if Mike was more of an object that had been taken from William rather than a person that had chosen a different life. Neither blamed Moon for the phrasing either as they were sure he was just informing them of how William felt.
"Alright, you can be the distraction," Dipper reluctantly agreed. "But don't let the fact he wants you alive make you careless! Alive doesn't necessarily mean in one piece."
"I'm aware," Mike replied grimly. Taking a deep breath to calm himself, Mike opened the door and went in. Roxy noticed him pretty much immediately and lunged for him, enveloping him hon a hug similar to how moon had not long ago. (Mike swears even when they weren't actually trying to murder him these animatronics were trying to give him a heart attack.)
"Mike! They're going to rewrite me again!" Roxy sobbed, clinging onto Mike. "I've been trying so hard! But the show got messed up and now I can't catch some stupid kid! I-I don't want to be completely changed again!"
"Hey, Roxy, hey," Mike said calmly, gently pushing her back slightly. Thankfully Roxy didn't resist and allowed Mike to hold her head at eye level with one hand and gently pet her muzzle with the other. Looking her right in the eyes so she could see his sincerity Mike said. "It'll be alright. You aren't going to be rewritten. I'm not going to let that happen."
It had taken a while for Roxy to open up about her insecurities to Mike and even longer for her to confess the reason behind all her self-esteem issues, but she eventually told Mike that she had been aware on some level when they had been redesigning her from Foxy. She had been trapped and terrified while everything about herself was slowly changed and updated for a "new and improved" model. That was why she always wanted to be completely shut off whenever Mike did even the smallest repairs and upgrades, so she wasn't reminded of that trauma. It's why she strived to be popular and irreplaceable, lest the higher-ups decide to remake her once more.
"You'll be okay Roxy," Mike assured quietly as the wolf's trembling slowly lessened. "I promise, you won't be forced to change again just because of some CEO that has no clue about the real you. Once this night is over, I'll keep you safe."
After all, if Mike had his way with the Pizzaplex the Fazbear Company would have far more things to worry about than a few animatronics.
A flash of Magenta in Roxy's eyes and the subtle sound of her joints locking up was the only warning Mike had before her jaw suddenly clamped down on his animatronic arm.
Roxy and the other Glamrocks were strong, but the animatronics that Mike had been fused with had been originally designed to withstand any and all attempts to free the children they were supposed to capture and Mike's limbs had only been made stronger over the years to help him on the supernatural adventures he goes on, so while Mike's arm was a little scratched by Roxy's teeth in was pretty much intact. Still, Mike was effectively trapped and couldn't do anything as Roxy stood to full height and flung him across the room.
Mike's back slammed into the glass of the display window, cracks spiderwebbing out from where he hit. Forcing the black spots away from his vision, Mike barely had enough time to get his wires out and restrain Roxy who had been sprinting at him at full speed. More cracks were slowly added to the glass as Mike was forced up against it in an effort to better brace himself against Roxy, barely keeping her claws and jaw away from himself by inches.
"Michael… Michael… Michael…" Roxy said in disappointment, her voice disorienting to sound more like William's as her eyes became fully magenta. "Still doing this same song and dance after all these years… Still trying to atone for murdering Evan?"
"I've atoned for that a dozen times over," Mike grunted, gritting his teeth to keep William's words from reopening old wounds that had finally healed years ago. "Nowadays it's more about stopping your crazy ass from murdering more kids."
"And yet you've never been able to stop me," William mocked, pressing forward a bit more. (As focused as he was on Mike, William didn't notice the door opening as Dipper and Moon snuck inside and Mike made sure not to give them away.) "Only slowed me down. You should stop struggling against me son, especially since I can put your siblings back together."
"Leave them be!" Mike snarled. "They're happy and at rest! They don't need to be dragged back into this just because you never learned to let go!"
"Stop acting like you have the moral high ground here Michael," William scoffed. "You've stuck around all these decades because you're just as stubborn as I am. You're an Afton Michael and it's time you stopped running from that fact and finally embraced what you're meant to be."
"Actually he's a Pines," Dipper interrupted, his magnet gun charging as he pointed it at the back of Roxy's head. "And us Pines' always look out for our family."
William didn't have time to react as the gun went off, scrambling Roxy's systems. As soon as the wolf began to slump over, Moon and Mike jumped into action. Moon made sure Roxy was pinned down while Mike quickly pressed all the hidden buttons needed to open the plates covering the main system switch. Roxy's systems began to recover as her eyes glowed brightly with William's fury but it was too late, Mike already flipped the switch and Roxy was forced to shut down completely.
The three of them all relaxed slightly once the immediate threat was over. Mike went to work connecting his tablet to Roxy's systems with Moon hovering nearby just in case William somehow managed to wake Roxy up while Dipper went to tell Freddy and Gregory that it was safe.
"Will Roxy be alright?" Freddy asked in concern, hovering around his shut-down friend while Gregory watched with only a little wariness.
"She'll be fine once I get her systems cleared out," Mike assured as he typed away at his tablet. "Though it's going to take a while because the virus had been very active just as she was shut down and then I'll need to reboot her."
"Sounds like we'll be here for a little while," Gregory concluded, narrowing his eyes at Mike. "So there should be plenty of time for you to tell me why the virus… ghost… or whatever called you his son."
