Dragonflight
Prayer to a Dragon

Dragon, Dragon far above,
do you know the envy
of me little mortal one?

All my life I wished for wings
to carry me away from here
to places I have never seen.

Fed by tales of merchant men,
visions hunt my days and nights
of oceans deep and mountains high.

Called a fool by friends and foes
for holding dear such silly dreams
they laughed at me throughout my life.

But I will keep the hope forever
locked deep within my heart
to sail the clouds one day.

Dragon, Dragon in the sky,
will you take me with you
on your endless flight?

A/N: This poem has been greatly inspired by Anne McCaffrey's "Dragonriders of Pern" series which is why I posted it here, though it can be seen independently as there are many other good dragon tales out there who would make a child (or grown-up :-) wish to fly on one.
