Ok, this is my first fanfiction and I would be happy aubout some reviews.

Trying to forget you

1. Goodbye, my Friend

"Jess, is that you? Jess, I'm pretty sure it's you and I'm pretty sure you've been calling and not saying anything but wanna say something. Hello? You're not going to talk? Fine, I'll talk. You didn't handle things right at all. You could've talked to me. You could've told me that you were having trouble in school and weren't going to graduate, and that your dad had been there, but you didn't. And you ended up not taking me to my prom and not coming to my graduation and leaving again without saying goodbye again, and that's fine, I get it, but that's it for me. I'm going to Europe tomorrow and I'm going to Yale and I'm moving on. And I'm not going to pine. I hope you didn't think I was going to pine, okay? I think. . .I think I may have loved you, but I just need to let it go. So, that's it, I guess. Um, I hope you're good. I want you to be good, and, um, okay, so, goodbye. That word sounds really lame and stupid right now, but there it is. Goodbye."

With these words, Rory hung up. She didn't want to, but deep in her heart she knew she had lied. She still loved him, she did care about him not being there and she just wanted to lie in his arms again. She wouldn't forget him. But soon she repressed all this and went to her Grandparents, who already waited for her.

"Rory, we are so proud!", Emily said and beamed at her happily. Richard also smiled. Of course they were happy, Rory would go to Yale. And that was something they hoped for so long.

Soon Lorelai arrived, and together they went to the parkings, to drive home. But first, Emily and Richard had a surprise for Rory.

"After you fulfilled all the expectations we could have at a perfect granddaughter, so voluntary and great, we think this should be honoured.", Richard announced solemnly.

"But you already pay for Yale! That's enough for a lot of Birthdays and Christmas's together!" Rory said reproachfully, but there was also pride in her voice.

"Nonsense, you will still get presents, and especially these is very important, because we still want you to appear at the Friday night dinners, even though you will live in Yale soon. And because we won't let you drive with the bus, you get this." Emily hold a key in her hand and jingled with it a little bit.

Rory jumped up and down.

"You're giving me a car? That's so great! You're clearly the best!"

For one moment she was happy again. For one moment she had almost forgotten Jess, but when she thought of the car, she remembered the car accident she had with Jess and her mood switched. Rory tried to burrow it from her Grandparents, but Lorelai immediately realized the changed expression on Rorys face, but she didn't say anything.

After Rory finally found her car between all the cars her former schoolmates got, Richard and Emily drove home and also Rory and Lorelai set out for Stars Hollow.

When Rory stopped at a stop light, she saw Dean and Lindsay, walking hand in hand. They looked so happily, stopping again and again to kiss each other.

I used to be happy with him. Just like she is now.

Rory felt a light stitch in her heart, when she realized that she gave up him for Jess so fast. And now Jess was gone, Dean happy with Lindsay and Rory alone. Well, she had her Mum and Lane and even Paris but that wasn't the same. Rory wanted to be happy again. She wanted to have someone she loved, and who also loved her. But for the moment, she was alone. Of course she would get along with it, she was strong. But their still was this tiny little voice in her head, which continued whispering "You want him coming back! You love him!" Rory deliberated if this was true when she heard a loud honking behind her and the thought was gone. She drove on fast, passing the meanwhile green traffic lights.

The next morning:

"Hey Sweetie! How far you are?", Lorelai called from the kitchen.

"How far doing what?", Rory mumbled in a sleepy voice.

"Packing of course, do you remember? The two of us. Europe. Today."

Rory looked at the red glowing numbers of her alarm clock. It wasn't even seven o'clock. And of course she already had packed. Way too much, what she had noticed after a little while. But after she had reduced the amount of books everything had been fine.

Or course Lorelai wasn't ready packing, and while she did, Rory sat on the couch and stared into space.

When Lorelai noticed, she stopped.

"What's up with you?"

"What?" Rory seemed as if she just woke up.

"I said what's up with you? You're acting all weird since yesterday. There has to be something wrong with you. Come on, tell me."

"It's nothing!", Rory tried to talk her mom but especially herself into believing it.

"ok." Lorelai was disappointed about Rory lying to her but if she didn't want to talk about it, Lorelai had to accept it. Furthermore, she had enough time to talk to Rory on their long trip.

"But you know that you always can come to me!"

"Yeah Mum, I know." Rory smiled but then her face turned serious. "Now hurry up! You know. The two of us. Europe. Today."

Lorelai laughed and threw a t-shirt at Rory. But she shouldn't have done that. Soon a wild clothes fight had flared.

After a while mother and daughter lay on the sofa very exhausted.

"Now we should really hurry up, otherwise we won't start our trip before tomorrow."

Finally, after another hour, they went to the car.

"And now let's go to Luke. We have to say Goodbye!" Rory said after they stowed everything in the car.

"It's a little too late to say Goodbye. Luke went on a cruise with Nicole, you know." Lorelai sounded sadly, and was surprised about it the next moment.

So they drove off, but when they passed the diner, it wasn't closed. It was packed, like every day.

Lorelai stopped and she and Rory went in.

"What are you doing here?" Lorelai asked horrified.

"I'm working here, but I always thought you know that." Luke hummed.

"But, you are on a cruise!" Lorelai still was so surprised that she didn't notice Dean coming into the Diner.

But Rory noticed. She remembered her thoughts the day before. Yes, she had been happy with Dean, but now he was happy with Lindsay and Rory was history. Nevertheless Rory went over to Dean to say Hi.

"Hey Dean how are you? Where's Lindsay?"

"New Mexico." Dean responded sadly.

"Oh, why that. Has she family there?"
"Yeah, her parents. Since today. She moved there. She told me this morning, shortly before they took off." Dean looked on the floor very dejected.

Rory didn't know what to say. "That's a pity!"

"Yeah, and what a pity. But life goes on. Whatever, we're not together any more. Long distance relationships aren't her thing, she said."

Rory felt sorry for Dean. Even though she had no feelings for him any more, he deserved better.

"Well, I think I have to say Goodbye too, but don't be afraid, I will come back. In two months I'm back from Europe." Rory hugged Dean, but unclasped very soon again. This had to be uncomfortable for him.

"Yeah, have fun!" Dean said very embarrassed.

Rory wondered. Suddenly Dean was so different.

He smiled. "I think I should go now." So he left the Diner and a perplexed Rory.

But Rory hadn't got a lot of time to think about Dean, because Lorelai wanted to take off. Rory said Goodbye to Luke, and the two Gilmores left the Diner. When they were back in the car Lorelai began to tell very excited.

"She cheated on him!"

"What, what, what? Stop, who cheated on whom?" Rory asked, now as excited as Lorelai.

"Nicole, she cheated on Luke! That's because he's here, and not on his cruise. Luke just told me. Yesterday, when he came back from your graduation, he exceptionally drove to Nicole's and his apartment directly, and not to the Diner first. And the he caught them."

"And they were right in the middle of it?"

"Oh yeah baby, right in the middle of it. And now it's over."

"Good. Maybe now you notice that you should be with him." Rory mumbled a bit too loudly.

"What do you mean?" Lorelai was confused.

"What should I mean? Luke and you belong together. The whole town knows it. And you know it too, you just don't want to realize it." Rory was very excited by now. But Lorelai didn't say a word. She just stared out of the window in silence.

And suddenly Rory was quiet, too. She just realized that she did exactly the same. All the time she was trying to repress her love. But it was so hard. Jess wasn't there, he wasn't with her. Slowly she noticed the lump in her throat. She tried to repress it, but one little tiny tear had already cleaved itself a way down Rory's cheek. And suddenly, Rory had the feeling that with these tear everything else what she had made sad had disappeared. All the feelings and all the pain. Nothing was gone complete but it was easier to bear.

"We should take off." Lorelai suddenly said.

Rory looked at her but couldn't interpret her facial expression. It wasn't exactly sad but not happy either.

"Yeah, we should."

And so they went to their long trip to Europe.

They would have and need a lot of time to think, and to deflect themselves.
