'Hey, Welcome back, everybody' said Drew, who was now standing between Kathy and Colin in the line-up. 'This week's winner is Wayne Brady!' The camera view on the monitors shifted to Wayne, sitting at the desk, before returning to Drew.
'The rest of us are going to play our favourite game, Hoedown, with Laura Hall at the piano!' said Drew, pointing off stage towards the area next to Ryan, where Laura, a slim brown haired lady in a pale green dress, was sitting at the piano.
When the cheer subsided, Drew stepped forward. 'What we need from the audience is a suggestion for an impressive skill or talent.'
'Improvisation!' yelled Tendi, her hands already cupped around her mouth like a funnel, in an attempt to drown out the other suggestions.
'Thank you!' Drew then stepped back, briefly turning to face Laura at the piano. 'Let's do the Improvisation Hoedown, whenever you're ready, Laura.'
As the music started, Kathy took a deep breath, and then began singing. 'Doing improv comedy, can be really neat, as it allows us, to give you all a treat, though now I'm here and playing, the final game with Drew, I'm starting to get nervous, and trying not to spew!'
'Wow' sniggered Mariner. 'How's Drew going to follow that?'
Drew shook his head and, while grinning, started his verse. 'I have a little workshop, where I tinker every day, to improvise things that make, my life okay, I tried to make something, to stop a plague of rats, now my neighbours have moved out, as the house is full of cats!'
'That's clever' said Rutherford, with a smile.
Then it was Colin's turn. 'I know a party planner, she's a real fancy cook, who sometimes prepares food, that isn't in a book, her latest dinner party, was a real scream, cause her deserts include sweet, barbecue sauce ice cream!'
'What?' asked Boimler, with a grimace on his face.
After the groans from the audience subsided, Ryan began his verse. 'Some improv is easy, some is really tough, singing games like hoedowns, leave me feeling rough, linking words to music, on the spot is a real grind, so can we please ditch this game, as it's a total bind!
After the four had repeated the final few words, and Laura finished playing, Drew turned to face Colin, as the audience finished cheering. 'Sweet barbecue sauce ice cream?'
'Sorry' said Colin, raising his hands as he spoke. 'I have no idea where that came from!'
'Oh, come on' sighed Ryan. 'You wouldn't use classic barbecue sauce for ice cream, would ya?'
'What about ketchup?' asked Wayne from the desk.
'Well, why not cheese, or Marmite? added Drew, prompting groans from the audience.
'Hey Laura!' yelled Kathy towards the piano area. 'Can you believe these guys?'
'Okay' sniggered Drew, who turned to the camera. 'Don't go away, folks, we'll be right back!'
NOTES
The concept of ice cream made with unusual flavours is not that far fetched. There's the classic Two Ronnies ice cream parlour sketch, where the customer asked for ice creams with flavours usually associated with potato crisps! And then, some years ago, I remember Heinz had a recipe on their website for Salad Cream ice cream, although that could have just been an elaborate April Fool's joke! And yes, sweet barbecue sauce does exist!
Ice creams with Cheese and Marmite, however, are genuine. In his January 8th 2022 video We made hot sauce ice cream. It might have been a mistake, Youtuber Tom Scott teamed up with Barry Lewis, and both items were among the ingredients used to make experimental ice creams!
I included Kathy in the hoedown because, as far as I'm aware, she never participated in one during any of her appearances on the actual show.
Ryan's verse is inspired by the fact he isn't a big fan of this game, as demonstrated by his verses in the Rockstars and Vending Machine hoedowns.
