Frost was the one who had discovered the video first. After the email had sat unopened in Maura's inbox for a few days, the men that Olivia was working with had decided to send an email directly to Cavanaugh. In the email, there was a warning message about how the video was set to be leaked to the entire public in exactly 72 hours, which gave Frost a very limited time to assemble a team. The department had sent a few of their best computer technicians to join the team and the FBI had also provided a few consultants to assist as well. After the team's first debrief, Frost knew that he needed to let Jane know. Despite his hesitation in interrupting Jane's vacation, he knew that she would be much more upset if she found out later on. So he found the nerve to call her phone, waiting as it rang across the globe.
"Frost? What's up," Jane's voice sounded distant through the speaker and it was clear that she was outside as the wind cut through her words.
"Jane? Something's happened. Can you find a quiet place to talk?"
Frost hears Jane shuffle and open a door, with silence permeating the air the moment the door was shut. "What happened? Is it Olivia?"
"I don't know, Jane. It might be but it might not. Cavanaugh got an email today with a message threatening to release that video of Maura to the public in 72 hours if your current location is not disclosed. We have a team on it, tracking the IP address but it's getting bounced all over the world as we speak."
Jane is silent and Frost knows that she is brainstorming different ways for them to get out of this.
"Jane, there's no way in hell we are going to disclose your current location, you know that, right?"
"I know, but I am not letting that video of Maura get out there for everyone to see. She's been through so much and I'm not taking away her dignity, Frost. So you better get on that hacking stuff that you do and find out who did this before we agree to play games with a criminal."
Frost's fingers fly across the keyboard as he balances the phone against his ear. "I'm trying my best. They're good, Jane. If this is Olivia's doing, she must be working with someone else now. This is beyond your classic hacker stuff. Way more advanced than what a one-person team could pull off."
Jane is inside of City Hall, staring at the marble floor as she fights back the urge to throw her phone against the wall, her hands gripping the phone so tight that the whites of her knuckles show. "If they want our location, that means that they must have been watching us. Close enough to notice that we are no longer in town but not quite close enough to know where we went, which is good at least."
Frost hears the squeaking of Jane's boots against the floor as she starts walking towards something. "Listen, Frost. I need to go. But keep me updated with anything that you find out. I'm going to tell Maura and make sure that we are safe."
"Yeah, you got it. I'm sorry, Jane. I know it's a constant nightmare dealing with this stuff and I really thought it ended when Olivia gave herself up."
Jane sighs loudly, "Yeah, so did I. Guess things never work out like that. I'll talk to you later."
As Frost says goodbye, he looks up to see Nina walking through the doors. "Nina? Aren't you supposed to be on honeymoon still?"
"You know how it is, Frost. We heard about the video and flew back on the first flight back. I wanted to offer any help that I can with tracking the sender. Frankie is speaking to Cavanaugh about what he can do and maybe even looking into a flight to Paris."
Frost's eyebrows shoot up, "A flight? You're that concerned?"
Nina nods. "It's his sister. He wants to be there for her even if it only means having some extra manpower around for safety. Cavanaugh thinks it's best if they remain over there until we figure out who we are dealing with. Between the people that Jane has pissed off and Paddy Doyle's enemies, we have ourselves quite a list of potentials. With how sophisticated they were at covering their tracks with the video, we're assuming that the wrong group of people got to Olivia."
He pulls at his tie. "Man. I was literally just sitting across from her the other day and listening to her confession. She said she wanted it all to be over and was willing to make a deal with the DA in exchange for some information. And now she's got this hotshot lawyer and is off making threats. We can't catch a break."
Shaking her head, Nina's curls bounce around as she logs into her computer. "Let's just catch these people so we can all breathe easy around here again."
Jane had planned to tell Maura to moment that she returned. However, as she watches Maura sitting on the steps, gazing into the river peacefully, her heart aches. Maura had been through so much lately and Jane did not want to add to Maura's stress levels even more, especially with the drama that was happening between them. There was not much that they could do from an entirely different country, so Jane decides to wait for a little before breaking the news. Maura looks up as Jane comes close to her, with her face full of questions.
"It was Frost. Just wanted to see how we were doing," Jane says, a pang of guilt hitting her as she feels bad for lying to Maura.
Maura seems unconvinced but decides to respect Jane's privacy for now. Jane crouches down, taking a seat next to Maura again. "Where were we?"
"Talking about our feelings," Maura says, which causes Jane to inhale sharply.
"It's been a long day, Maur. Is it okay if we just walk in silence for a bit?"
Maura is about to put on a fight until she takes a look into Jane's eyes, seeing exhaustion and fear swirling around in those big brown eyes. She rubs Jane's back, standing and holding a hand out so Jane can lean on her to stand up. The two women continue down their walk alongside the river, trying to enjoy the fact that they were far away from Boston and all of the problems that were associated with the place.
After the walk, Jane had requested that they stop by a bar so she could quench her thirst with a cold drink. After the news that she had received from Frost, the drink sounded even more attractive. They had ended up in a local bar, which were plentiful around the area, as wine is a religion in Paris. Maura was giddy upon seeing the extensive menu of different wines, having become accustomed to the Dirty Robber, which only had a couple of bottles to choose from at a time. She had taken her time ordering, finally settling on the Chateau La Mission Haut-Brion to start. As she raised the glass to her nose, her poise shone through as she swirls the liquid. Maura takes a sip, holding it inside of her mouth as she tastes the hints of truffle and smoke, with the earthiness of the wine being the star of the show. Jane watches her, entranced despite having seen Maura do this a thousand times before. Maura smiles, her lips curving upwards as Jane's eyes drop down upon them. However, Jane's attention is not the only one that she has caught, as a man strolls over and slides into the booth that they are in.
Jane crosses her arms in front of her, leaning back in annoyance as the man extends a hand out to Maura.
"Est-ce que ton père a été un voleur ? Parce qu'il a volé les étoiles du ciel pour les mettre dans tes yeux."
As Jane's eyes narrow, the man glances in her direction before translating. "Is your father a thief? Because he stole the stars from the sky to put them in your eyes."
Jane openly gags, stifling a laugh while the man continues to ignore her. "Hey pal, if you actually knew who her father is, you would back off. He is much more than a thief."
Maura kicks her under the table. "Merci," Maura says, keeping her eyes on Jane.
"Could I buy you a drink and perhaps accompany you for the night, madame?" The man asks. Jane's mouth drops open. She has to admit, she is impressed that the man had the guts to be so forward. Realizing that her presence was probably not wanted, she slides out of the booth, ignoring Maura's attempts to make eye contact with her. As she heads towards the stools, Jane begins to feel her teeth aching from clenching her jaw so hard.
The man, who introduces himself as Pierre to Maura, has placed a hand on Maura's thigh, resting on bare skin as Maura's dress rides up from the position that she sat in within the booth. Jane reaches for her gun, only stopping when Maura shoots her a look, willing her to calm down. As she watches Maura flirt with the man, Jane scoffs and contemplates storming out of the bar. When Maura laughs at something the man has said and pushes him playfully, Jane knows that she has seen enough. She stands upright, pushing her way past the other people in the bar to Maura. Reaching across the man, she extends an arm out for Maura, curling her fingers at the end as she indicates for Maura to come out of the booth.
"Let's go, Maur."
"Jane! You're being very rude right now! Pierre and I are in the middle of a conversation."
The man makes a move to stand up, but Jane keeps a firm hand on his shoulder, making him stay in place.
"Are you coming or not?"
Rolling her eyes, Maura places her hands in Jane's as she moves awkwardly out of the booth. She apologizes profusely to Pierre, before nearly being dragged out of the bar. Jane tugs at Maura's hand, leading her into the street as they turn down an empty alley. As Jane turns around, she pushes Maura against the wall.
"What gives, Maura? I'm sitting right in front of you and you're flirting with some random man!"
Maura looks up at Jane, her hooded eyes blinking innocently as she watches Jane unravel. Jane has a strong grip on her arm and their bodies are pressed up against each other as Jane pins her to the wall.
"I don't see what was wrong with that, Jane. It was harmless flirting. It's not like we are together."
Jane's eyes narrow as she tips her head down at the shorter woman. "Really? Is that what this is about?"
Maura places a hand on Jane's chest, pushing her off a bit. "Did it work, Jane? Did seeing me flirt with someone else finally make you stop being stubborn for a second? You want me, but you don't want to be with me. You are in love with me, but you leave me for a whole different state. But I can't flirt with anyone else, can I? Make up your mind."
"My mind is made up, Maura," Jane says through clenched teeth. She places both of her hands on either side of Maura's hips, holding her against the wall as she looks at Maura. Maura can feel her heart racing and although she would never reveal it to Jane, she is incredibly attracted by Jane's protectiveness. She wants Jane to take her anger out on her, and it will only require a bit more pushing.
"It doesn't seem so," Maura says before beginning to walk away. Jane grabs onto Maura's hand, making her spin back to where Jane stood before Jane's hands are all over her hair, pulling her in. Their lips touch as Jane kisses Maura with a sense of assertiveness, showing Maura just how much her mind was made up about how she felt about the woman. Jane bites Maura's bottom lip, making Maura breathe even harder as she gasps. As Maura's arms envelop Jane's back, Jane lifts one of Maura's legs so they can feel each other even more. Hooking her leg around Jane, Maura pulls back, seeing how Jane's eyes have gone dark. Jane wraps her hands around the front of Maura's neck, tilting Maura's face up so she is looking into Jane's eyes.
"You're mine, Maura. I don't share."
Jane closes the distance again, placing kisses lower and lower as she searches for the right spot. Between Maura's ear and the side of her neck, she bites gently, putting some pressure on the area that she knows will make Maura's knees go weak. Maura's hand wanders up Jane's shirt, trembling as she makes contact with Jane's soft skin. Jane feels so good against her and the warmth radiating off of her body makes Maura want to take off her clothes so she can feel all of it on top of her. Maura's hand travels around Jane's waist, grabbing Jane from behind as she holds on, every fiber within her flooding with ecstasy.
As a car honks behind them, Jane jumps at the noise, snapping out of it as she remembers where they are. The two women separate unwillingly, straightening out their clothes as Jane clears her throat. Maura runs her tongue along her lips, feeling how tender they are from being the receiving end of Jane's passion.
Jane places her two fingers on her nose, massaging the bridge. "Sorry, Maur. I don't know what came over me."
Maura doesn't say anything, choosing to lead Jane back to where they were staying a few blocks away. She tries to hide the fact that her hands are shaking when she turns the key into the lock and she lets Jane enter first as she closes the door behind her. Maura pulls Jane in by the front of her shirt, kissing her fervently. With each second, desperation and desire grow until it is all Maura can think about. She pushes Jane back into a chair, forcing her to sit down as Maura remains standing in front of her. Maura crosses her hands in front of her as she slowly drags the shirt against her skin, pulling it off with seduction. She saunters back to Jane, her hips swaying as she puts Jane's hands across the lower half of her body. Maura lets Jane undo the buttons on her pants as she steps out of them, showing off a matching lingerie set. Stepping back to allow for a full view, Maura stands in place as Jane's eyes feast on the woman before her. She takes slow steps back towards Jane, leaning down to whisper in Jane's ear in a way that she knows will allow her to press her chest against the other woman's face.
"If you want me, then you're going to have to earn it."
She licks a sensitive spot on Jane's ear, nibbling before she releases it and saunters to the bedroom.
"Oh," Maura shouts back, "And no cuddling or touching while we sleep until you figure out what it is that you want."
Jane's jaw is still on the floor, unable to fathom how one woman could ooze so much sensuality. Her legs are too weak to stand up in, so she sits on the chair for a few more minutes as she replays what just happened in her mind. Swallowing forcefully, Jane licks her lips as she follows Maura into the room.
