Chapter 4-Nightmares

"Hiccup come on don't do this"-"Astrid I cant stay here ok? We both know they don't want me here...we both know I don't belong here.." it was a bitter cold night in the cove they were standing next to the tree with hiccup holding a sack over his shoulder with clothes and basic survival needs

"we can change their minds or do something please I cant lose my best friend..." she was desperately trying to keep him there she thought if she tried hard enough it would work but at this point she was willing to do anything. When she said that though his features changed he walked over to her and laid a hand on her cheek

"Astrid I know you don't want me to leave and honestly I don't want to either but the villagers...my cousin hel even my own Father hates me and all that's kept me here is you...but I cant keep staying they want to exile me or even worse so its time for me to take my leave..."

She was trying to hold it together but she let it slip and she began to cry. he softly brushed away the tears and kissed her forehead

"just promise me Ast you will move on in life..become the greatest shield maiden the archipelago has ever seen and keep being you, can you don that?" she gently nodded her head and hugged him

As she was holding him close she felt him exhale sharply and looked to be a axe sticking from his back and looked up to see her nasty husband standing behind him with a evil smile plastered on his face

"i told you babe he was long gone dead to the world a scrawny Hiccup couldn't live long so I ended it for him lets say put him out of his misery"-hiccups body went limp and fell to the floor and Snotlout grabbed her by the neck and slammed her against the rock walls

"Your stuck with me forever"

She woke up jolted from the bed and was sat upright tears streaming down her face looking around for danger to see she was alone. She laid her head in her hands and quietly sobbed before she heard a muffled groan coming from the floor, she peeked over the side of the bed to see a shape laying on the ground covered in furs

The man slowly turned over twards her and opened his peircing green eyes to see her watery Azure eyes staring back at him-"hey"

"hi"-she choked out not wanting him to see her cry right now even though it had been pretty obvious

He could see the puffyness in her eyes and new she had been crying so he lugged himself off the ground and got on his knees so he was face to face with her, before he could say a word to her she was wraped around his body tightly and her face was shoved into his neck tears streaming down her face

"nightmare?" he asked and softly wrapped his arms around her waist, he could feel her shaky breathing even out and feel her head nod. She burrowed her face deeper into his neck and tried to speak

"i-I get them every once and a while.."-liar her brain yelled at her-"i just see t-that night..." he pulled her tighter against him and soothingly rubbed her back

"i get them to..."-"how do you deal with them...?"-she left the safety of his neck to look into his piercing emerald green eyes

"i think about you..."-he lessened his grip to allow her to get up and leave if needed to he thought she would run away thinking he was trying to "woo" her even though she is engaged but all she did was burrow back to his neck and pull him into the bed with her

"you mister are gonna lay here with me"

"but.."

"no buts I need my best friend tonight I don't care if im engaged I need you, and you mister skinny owe me five years worth of affection so better get comfy"-she pull him on the bed and wrapped their bodies in the furs, and wrapped her arms around his chest and burrowed her face back into the safety of his neck and gave a soft sigh of relief at the feeling of finally being safe and comforted

"What ever you wish milady"-he mumbled into her hair in which he was nestled into as his arms wrapped softly around her waist. Soon he felt her breathing level out and he knew she was asleep and softly kissed her hair knowing it was something she wouldn't like and whispered "goodnight Ast..." she only sighed in agreement and dozed off with no more nightmares because she was safe

-Morning-

She awoke to the feeling of warm skin on her face as she opened her eyes and pulled her head out from the mass of heat she saw the peaceful face of Hiccup Haddock the III sleeping with his long auburn hair covering his face and the noticeable bags under his eyes, which made her feel a little guilty only a little though because she enjoyed sleeping next to him made her feel safe but the moment was ruined when she heard a huff of air and was blown into her face

She slowly turned to see a dark scaley mass layed down on hiccups chest and was seemed to be sleeping due to the slow rise and fall of its body, to be totally freaked out was a understatement she was terrified that the thing she hated the most only rivaled by her "husband" was laying peacefully on the chest of her lost best friend she looked up to hiccup and punched him in his shoulder to get his attention

"ow what did I do now..."-he grumbled in his sleep as his eyes were still closed and his hand idly scratched the head of the beast laying on him, if she wasn't do mad right now she would have been amused by his sleepy voice then as if hit over the head his eyes shot open and slowly looked down to the beast he was petting back to her

"i can explain..."-"you better or I will chop you into small pieces with my axe"-she stated with a scowl that Hiccup found to be adorable

"why is the enemy sleeping on your chest like a puppy dog"- she hissed and got in his face

"h-he is not the enemy he is a friend, toothless!"-he hissed at the dragon and at his name the creatures ear flaps lifted up and his head rose with his bright green eyes only rivaled by Hiccups opened tiredly to overlook the situation

"h-he?...HE?! Who is he?!"-she hissed/yelled while staring at the beast

"As-Astrid meet Toothless, Toothless meet Astid"-he gestured to each of them and Toothless gave what seemed to be an amused snort seeing his friend give a awkward smile trying to calm the situation

"you named a dragon TOOTHLESS?! That's it you have gone insane I knew it being all mountain man and stuff you went so far as to befriend a DRAGON?!"-she slapped his shoulder and rolled out of the bed crossing her arms and walking far into the corner away from the two

Toothless looked from the girl in the corner to his friend and made a warble that almost sounded like a laugh and Hiccup scowled-"haha laugh it up, could u go wait outside bud?"-the Dragon huffed into his face and sauntered out of the hut

"soooo.."-"so when were you going tell me about the dragon?"-she looked at him with a questioning and accusing face

"eh soon...just hard to tell a Viking 'oh look here I trained a night fury and ride on it and did you know dragons are harmless and act like over sized pets when treated right?' because that's so easy"-he gave a lifted eye brow look to her as he awaited her response

She looked at him in disbelief-"you know what they can do what they did..."-she whispered almost inchoherantly but of course Hiccup heard her

"trust me I know...but I promise Toothless would never hurt me or you, he was the on who really saved you.."-her eyes shot up and remembered that night

"that blast was him?"-he nodded his head-"look I don't expect you to trust him or even me for that matter but just give him a chance I've lived with him for five years and he has done nothing but protect me.."- he said with a sadden and downcast look

"five years.."-she whispered he only nodded again she watched him as he got up and walked over to the trunk opening it and grabbing a new Olive green tunic and throwing his old one off and she got a good look at the boy, she saw the outlined bits of his shoulder and back muscles as well as red burn marks and scars covering him and when he turned she got a good look at his toned chest with equally more scars and burns she closed her eyes to compose herself and stop the staring

"look you get changed and ill take you back so you can be where you want to be"-he laid a fresh pai of clothes on the top of the trunk and grabbed his armor and helmet and walked outside to stretch as she creeped over to the bed and began getting changed thinking about how her day will end up
