1He wants to tell her that he loves her every single second he's alive. He feels as if he could never get tired of saying it and if those were somehow the only words he could say for the rest of his life, he'd be happy.
These thoughts run through Jason's head as he walks up and down in front of the counters in the jeweler's. He's looking for the ring that will tell her that he loves her every time she looks at it. That way, they can do other things, although he figures that he'll be telling her he loves her then, too.
He's never looked for an engagement ring before. He gave Carly a ring once, but it wasn't an engagement ring and that was a long time ago. At first he thought that she'd come with him because he wasn't good at these things, but he'd seen this particular jeweler on the way to one of the warehouses. It's probably been here for years, he just hasn't noticed it; he didn't have a reason to notice it before.
Jason finds himself at the end of the counter and finds the perfect ring. The center gem is blue, with diamonds on the side and he knows it's the right one the moment he sees it. It's not big but it's not so small that someone wouldn't notice it. He thinks it would fit her perfectly and his gut is telling him that it's the one.
For the first time since he entered the store, Jason looks up from the counter and finds someone to help him. The guy seems wary, but Jason barely notices; almost everyone in this town knows who he is and what he does. When the guy steps in front of him and asks how he can assist him, Jason looks him in the eye for a moment and then taps his finger on the glass above the ring.
"Could I see that ring?"
The man nods, doing his best not to meet Jason's eyes again, and unlocks the cabinet. He takes the ring out and puts it on a stand in front of the man on the other side. Jason picks it up, barely touching it between two of his fingers, and examines it from all sides. He's not much of a ring person and certainly not a woman, but he can tell it's a beautiful piece. He can picture the smile on Courtney's face when she first sees it and the way her eyes will light up. They'll sparkle, just as the blue sapphire in the ring is doing between his fingers, and it'll remind her of their promises to love each other forever.
