Watanuki has always hated ghost stories.
Sure, he may be haunted(more of devoured) by spirits, and the fact that those stories might not be actually true; he still doesn't want the idea of a spirit suddenly appearing at the narration of a ghost story—or in scary parts of something— or that there may be a ghost in the setting of the story.
However, the time when he was telling ghost stories with the time when they used Doumeki's temple with Yuuko, Himawari, and Mokona, he felt a little safe.
Well maybe because it was the fact that Yuuko was there and somehow spirits tend to stay away from her. After that event, figuring out that Doumeki can actually repel spirits, he had always felt safe when Doumeki was around.
And that proves his point with the movie with the twins.
"Scared?" Doumeki asked.
"OF COURSE NOT!"
