Japan
Yamanashi, Fuefuki
What happened to Japan was a catastrophe 60 years ago.
Many people are finally writing it down as a history of disaster as Shibuya, Akihabara and many other Tokyo cities are blocked thanks to the Japanese police.
Many have deemed AIs to be dangerous, due to the attack by SILENCE.
As for Hatsune Miku, she's in a house as she was living happily with another person.
Miku is sitting on a sofa while watching TV as it shows more idols who're singing and dancing.
Opening her mouth, Miku is testing out her voice as she's keeping her tone as calm as possible.
"Aaaaah...~"
"Is that you singing just now?" An old lady called.
"Oh? Grandma! Sorry about that!" Miku apologises hastily.
"It's okay. You have such a beautiful voice, Miku-chan." Grandmother said with a warm smile.
Since Miku's an android called 'vocaloid,' she was found by her 'grandmother' many years ago as she was being raised.
Miku blushed after being called beautiful by her grandmother.
"Eh? But my voice… You know I can't sing anymore… Not after my popularity dropped so much."
[Another music from Utaite is about to start, even the fans are rooting for their performance.] A news lady called before Miku's grandmother turned off the TV.
"Oh dear. Overshadowed by your competition." Grandmother sighed as she's disappointed.
"Yeah…" Miku then hangs her head down as she realises that someone could sing for the people instead.
"Hm… I know. Maybe you can sing me a song. I don't care if it's scary or not, I just wanted to hear my little Miku-chan sing."
"Grandma…" Gasping as Miku can feel something from her grandmother.
Then seating on the piano as Miku clears her throat.
"The song I'll be singing is 'Rolling girl.'"
Finally, she starts playing. Then she and her grandmother sing together by sharing a verse.
"For lonely girls, it's always the same,~"
Standing outside on an electric wire pole, a blue haired man, Kaito, is watching Miku play her piano and sing along with her grandmother.
[KAITO! WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU!?] A voice yelled as it had Kaito jumping in shock.
"Sorry! I was caught up with some affairs!" Kaito replied as he's losing his confidence. "A- Anyway… I found her."
[Miku?]
"Yeah. She was singing with an old lady." Kaito answered.
[I see… Looks like we have finally found our target. You know what to do.]
"Yeah."
Finally, Kaito hangs up from his speaker and stares back down at a singing duo.
"Miku… I'll find a way to capture you."
"We'll hold our breath, right now.~"
As the song is over, tears are dropping on the piano keys.
"Hey, grandma. Is my singing bad?" Miku's voice quivers as she's trying her best not to cry.
"No, Miku-chan. I told you earlier you have an angelic voice." Grandmother answered with a smile.
"I- Is this a compliment?"
"Yes it is, dear."
The duo embraced each other as Miku sobs.
Despite being a vocaloid, Miku is heartbroken by the fact that no one could hear her sing again.
At least her grandmother still enjoys Miku's songs from the bottom of her heart.
"There there, Miku-chan. Grandma's here for you. I'll always listen to your singing voice..." Grandmother cooed.
"Thank you, grandma!"
Afterwards, Miku and her grandmother are continuing with their lives together as a grandmother-granddaughter relationship.
A few moments later.
After Miku is done peeling the potatoes, she then stood up, took the shopping list, put on a coat and a scarf as well as her shoes and finally opened the door.
"I'm off on an errand." Miku called.
"Oh! Don't forget to say hello to the Kagamine twins for me." Grandmother said while sorting Miku's scarf and moving her twintails out of the way.
"Ehe, will do. See ya later!"
"Bye, Miku-chan!"
After a farewell, Miku sprints through the town as she's ready to run an errand for her grandmother.
At the town where there's shops, sitting by the market store is a blonde boy, Kagamine Len, who was minding his own business on his phone.
There are less crowds yet more than the usual, considering he's in a town where people evacuated to.
"Len-kun!" Miku shouted while waving to him.
"Ah, Miku-chan." Len's tone has gotten quieter as he already has less expressions a long time ago. "Running an errand for your old lady again?"
"Ehehehe… I can't help it. Oh by the way, where's Rin-chan?" Miku asked.
"She said she'll be delayed. I don't know what's going on with Rin-nee." Len sighed. "Also, you still don't have friends?"
"Hm… Do I really have to? I just don't associate myself with those humans, except grandma." Miku answered while pouting.
"Gee. You never change, except you're less annoying than my sister at least."
As Len puts his phone back in his pocket, both he and Miku are entering a store as Miku is checking the shopping list.
5 minutes later…
Miku and Len finally step out of the store as Len's phone rings, playing 'Gigantic OTN.'
"Man, I knew I should've changed my ringtone… Kagamine Len, who is it?" Len asked after answering his phone.
Curious about Len's conversation, Miku knows not to disturb.
"Hm? Ah, I'll get to it, Luka-chan. See ya." Len then hangs up as he turns to Miku without a smile. "Sorry, Luka-chan needs me with something."
"It's okay. I won't get involved with your business." Said Miku as she waves her arms and then rubs her own head.
"Miku-chan… I envy you. Bye bye." Len sighed, turned away from Miku to see his friend.
"Bye bye, Len-kun." Miku bid farewell as her smile fades.
She's alone again.
Miku then strolls around town while seeing other humans playing together as she's finding herself at a location that is a junkyard.
After Miku prays by sitting on heaps of scraps, she then eats her own lunch, since it's past 12 o'clock.
As Miku snacks on a ham sandwich, something small approaches her.
"Meow."
"A cat?" Miku is surprised to see a stray black cat sitting in a scrapyard.
Then she gives out a small chunk of ham by feeding it to a cat.
"Ehehe… So cute." Miku giggled.
"Cute indeed."
"Eh?"
A voice has caught Miku by surprise, turning towards a familiar one.
"Yo, it's been awhile."
"Kaito-kun?" Miku hopped from the scrap, witnessing Kaito's reunion. "Um, it's been awhile... Why are you here?"
"You know why I'm here. I'm here because you're with us." Kaito answers while stroking a stray cat.
"With you? Are you sure you haven't broken your circuits after we split?"
"Haha, you're funny! Now come with me." Kaito raises his hand to Miku, wishing that she cooperates with him.
But Miku declined.
"Sorry, Kaito-kun. But I don't want to leave what's left of me."
"Hm. Then if that's the case. Aaaaaah~" Kaito's singing voice had created a light as it materialised a glowing item along with some bizarre technology attached to it, like it's sci-fi.
"What the!? A sword!?" Miku gasped as she knew this weapon's shape and use.
"I'll make you come over with us." Said Kaito, pointing his sword at Miku with a glare as he'll do it by force.
Miku realised that AIs like her are dangerous since Kaito's an example by holding a ridiculous weapon of mass destruction.
No wonder she and other vocaloids are blending in as fellow humans.
Afterwards, Miku pulls out a pepper spray and instantly sprays onto Kaito as well as rushing away.
"EI!"
"GAH! My eyes! Miku! Wait!" Kaito yelled while holding his eyes.
Panting while running through town, Miku is avoiding other people as some townspeople are puzzled about a twintailed girl dashing past them out of desperation.
Later at Fuefuki river, a phone beeps alongside Miku's hyperventilation, after rushing all the way from her usual spot.
Then it answered.
[This is Kagamine Len. Who is it?]
"Len-kun!" Miku called out of panic.
[Miku-chan? What's going on? Why are you breathing like this? I know Vocaloids actually breathe, but I didn't expect you to breathe like this.]
"It's Kaito!"
[Kaito-kun? Has he gone around swinging glowing sticks again?] Len asked.
"Eh!? You know!?" Gasping again as Miku can feel something hidden inside Len as well.
[You don't? Well, it's for the best that you don't. Get out of here while you still can.]
"Wait! Le- !?" Miku abrupts her protest as a sword has caught up to her.
"I found you." Kaito whispered as he glared straight towards Miku herself.
"HII! P- Please stop it, Kaito-kun! You're better than this!" Miku shouted while backing herself away from Kaito in fear.
"I will stop if you accept it and come with me!"
Miku thought Kaito had gone off the deep end as he's about to kill her or kidnap her. What does he want from her? Torture? Sexual assault? Or something else.
In the end, Miku is helpless.
As Kaito finally groped Miku by the arms, Miku is struggling to fight back as fear keeps on lingering into her spine.
"Come on, Miku!"
"Let me go! Stop it! Kaito!" Miku screamed. "HYAAAAAAAH!"
After her scream of fright, a soothing song plays as it makes a windy noise and then a slashing noise as it hits the ground.
It's pitch black as Miku sees it. No sound has played as there's nothing to feel with 5 senses.
Noiseless, pitch black, untouchable, empty smell and tasteless.
Back to the river as the sun turns bright orange, meaning it's getting dark.
Opening her eyes, Miku gasped again but this time, she was safe and calm down.
"Phew…"
Until something liquid had caught her hand.
Miku slowly looks at her own left hand as it's red.
That red liquid on her hand is actually blood.
Gasping in shock, Miku had also witnessed something on her right arm as she's carrying an item handle.
That item resembled a sword.
When Miku sees herself through the river, her face and her coat was stained in blood.
"No way… Kait- !?"
And finally a cyan sword had punctured Kaito through the chest as blood leaks out of his torso.
"Ah… Ahh…"
She witnessed what she did.
She killed him. She killed Kaito.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
???
"Damn it! What the hell, Kaito!? You completely screwed up our plan!"
A brunette is outraged by the failure of her ally, causing her to ring a phone call.
"Hello, medic? Yeah, we have a wounded victim at Fuefuki. Look, I don't care if you're busy, he's dying! Thank you."
Hanging up, a brunette sighed.
"I knew that moron is doing something stupid again." A boy called.
"Well, if he dies, it's his fault and we're going to replace another Kaito for the 25th time." A woman groaned.
"Why do you need Miku that much?"
"Why you ask? Because she's an important vocaloid to face against SILENCE before they get to her. Miku is what we need." The woman answered.
"And why is that?"
"She has the greatest potential to sing again. Sing for everybody around the world."
