Kensi slowly awoke after sleeping through most of the night. She turned on her side to see Deeks had retreated to the guest chair at some point in the night. She lay on her side watching him slowly breathing until he opened his eyes.
"Hey…" She said softly.
"Hey? How'd you sleep?"
"Better."
Deeks got up and walked over and leaned down to give Kensi a kiss.
"Why'd you get up in the middle of the night?"
"I didn't think you were too comfortable, and I was getting a bit stiff too."
Kensi nodded.
"Hey… Merry Christmas." Deeks said softly.
Kensi smiled. "Merry Christmas."
"What should we do today?" Deeks asked.
"I don't think there's a whole lot I can do still." Kensi said sadly. Not for herself, but feeling bad that Deeks wouldn't have the Christmas he deserved.
"I could always break you out. We could go grab Monty, head over to the beach, get something from the Kogi food truck. Mosey around the coast with me as your personal chauffeur."
"I think the nurses are still on high alert after last night's escapade."
"Yeah." Deeks said sadly. He sighed deeply. "So… I think we have a lot of catching up to do."
"You're right. But, can we maybe get into all of that after Christmas. I just… I just want to try to be happy today."
"That's all I want for you Kens." Deeks said before kissing her hand. "Can you catch me up on just one detail though?"
"Yea." Kensi replied, reaching out to stroke some stray hairs away from Deeks' forehead.
"Any idea when you're gonna get out of here?" Deeks asked.
"Maybe I can answer that." A nurse said, walking into Kensi's room.
"You all finally sick and tired of me and gonna spring me from here?" Kensi asked jokingly.
"Well, we are sick of you" The nurse said with a smile. "But more importantly you're doing well. Your adventure last night proved that. We're still not quite ready to let you go, but… maybe at the new year."
"Really?" Kensi asked, not quite believing the day she could finally leave may be approaching.
The nurse nodded. "You'll still need to come in daily for physical therapy, and there's a lot we'll have to get you set up with at home to provide you with care, but seeing as Mr. Deeks appears to be back…" The nurse carefully questioned and was provided with two happy headshakes in response, "then we should be able to get you home safely."
Kensi closed her eyes and took a deep breath before replying. "Thank you."
"Merry Christmas, you two." the nurse said as she exited the room and left the couple alone.
