Prologue

The Proposal

Heath looked down at his hands and then back up again at the beautiful girl sitting across from him. He and Stephanie had been dating for almost two years now. He still remembered the first time they met. It hadn't been one of those romantic things like many people had, they had just met in one of their classes and instantly hit it off.

And the day Heath realized that he was in love with Stephanie? The day, almost a year and a half ago, when they had been coming back from LA and he had consoled her about her uncle's death. That was the first day he realized he was in love with her, and the first time they had ever said I loved you. Now her whole family had fallen apart and weren't near as close as they had been when he had gone to Christmas with her.

He wanted so bad to bring back Stephanie's father to her life, to bring back her Aunt Becky, her cousins. But, he knew that Stephanie would not like it and possibly refuse to see him ever again if he tried to do that. And Heath knew that Stephanie was the one he was supposed to be with.

Stephanie looked at her boyfriend, who seemed to be gazing at her with that quiet look on his face. She absolutely loved spending time with Heath, and it was driving her crazy to know when he was going to propose. She couldn't wait for it! Of course, knowing Heath he was probably nervous and wouldn't actually do it for another three or four months.

"Come on," Heath suddenly interrupted her train of thought, "let's go for a walk."

"Okay," Stephanie answered, and the two got up from the table, leaving the money for the dinner and the tip and quickly walked out the door and headed down the street.

"Do you remember this?" Heath asked Stephanie quietly.

"Of course I do, it's the place we had our first date," Stephanie replied, "how could I forget that?"

"I'm glad to hear you say that," Heath admitted.

"Well, it is usually the guy who forgets this kind of stuff," Stephanie reminded him, "but not you, you always remember everything sweet and romantic."

Heath grabbed her hand at that time and the two walked on for a little bit in silence, until they came to a bench, "So, Ms. Stephanie, can you tell me how this is significant?"

"No," Stephanie answered, confusion evident in her voice, "what is it?"

"Well, see, the reason you don't remember it as holding any value in our relationship is because the reason it will hasn't happened yet," Heath informed her.

"What in the world are you talking about?" Stephanie asked, a tingle of excitement running through her body.

"Stephanie," Heath said, emotion filling his voice while he got down on one knee, "will you marry me?"

Stephanie squealed in delight as she forced him to stand up and threw her arms around him, "Of course I will. I have been waiting forever for you to ask me."

Stephanie and Heath started to walk back towards the car, hand in hand, both with big, stupid grins on their faces.

And all Stephanie could think about was one thing:

She, Stephanie Tanner, was going to be getting married.
