The Doctor's First Birthday
Tombaralamana woke up one morning feeling strange. She felt like something exciting was about to happen. She looked up at the calendar on the wall and remembered suddenly that it was her only son's first birthday. Tomba looked from the calendar to her clock, which read 09:35.
"Theta'll be up soon," she mused, calling her son by his nickname. Then she looked at her husband. Mororamiduro slept on soundly, not noticing Tomba moving around on the bed. "Moro," Tomba whispered into his ear. When this didn't work she tried again, louder than before. It went on like this until she finally decided to scream in his ear. One, two, three, Tomba counted under her breath. "Wake up!" she screamed.
Moro woke up with such a start that he fell out of bed. "What was that?" he said.
"I needed to wake you up," came the quiet answer from above.
"Why?" he asked.
"Because it's Theta's birthday," Tomba answered.
"Come on then, let's go get him up," Moro said, now wide-awake. Tomba and Moro stood up and walked out of the bedroom.
"Moro, go downstairs, please, and sort the presents. Also, call Degoma, Tri, Progu, and Wagno," said Tomba softly. She entered the nursery to find Theta happily sitting up, playing with a train, an early birthday present she had placed on his bed the night before. Theta looked up when he heard Tomba enter the room.
"Mummy!" said Theta happily.
"Hey, birthday boy," said Tomba, "want to go downstairs?" In answer to this, Theta held up his train. "Yes, your toy can come too," laughed Tomba.
