"Why don't we camp here for the night?" Dany suggested.
"Fine with me," said Brian. "But what if there are more snarks around?"
Arya grinned. "If there are, we'll take care of 'em just like we did this first bunch!"
"Would you like to join us for dinner, Vinny?" Dany asked politely.
Vinny wagged his tail. "Would I ever! I ain't had a square meal for da last two days! I been gettin' so skinny, my ribs are showin' through my fur!"
Brian dug a small hole in the ground, and Arya gathered some fallen branches and placed them in the hole. Then Dany called "Dracarys!" and Drogon waddled over and set the wood on fire.
Vinny whistled in appreciation. "Ain't dat a neat little parlor trick. Wish I had my own personal dragon."
They all sat around the fire. As they roasted some dried meat from the travelers' backpacks, Brian, Dany, and Arya introduced themselves to Vinny.
"So lemme get dis straight," said Vinny. "Yer tellin' me dat dis guy…" He pointed at Brian. "…is married ta dis lady…" He pointed at Dany. "An' nobody has any issue with dat?"
Dany smiled. "If they do, I haven't heard about it."
"Okay…" Vinny said.
"I can't tell you how excited I am to meet you, Vinny!" Brian exclaimed. "I've never met another talking direwolf before!"
"How's dat possible?" Vinny wanted to know. "What about your parents? Ya musta known dem."
Brian shook his head. "A human named Peter Griffin found me in the woods near Winterfell when I was a puppy. He adopted me and raised me alongside his own children. I don't remember my real family at all."
Vinny furrowed his brow. "Winterfell? Where's dat?"
"It's a big castle south of the Wall," Brian explained.
"Wow, below da Wall? How did a direwolf get down dat far?"
"No idea," said Brian. "I've always wondered myself."
"What about you, Vinny?" Arya asked. "Where are you from?"
A sad kind of look appeared on Vinny's face. "I was born in a town called Dragon's Mouth."
The instant he said those words, the three travelers froze. "What's da matter?" Vinny asked.
"Dragon's Mouth! That was the very place we are trying to find!" Dany cried.
Slowly, the wolf's face broke into a grin. "Well, ain't dat a lucky coincidence."
"Can you tell us about it?" Brian asked.
Vinny got a faraway look in his eyes. "Well, up north, an' I mean way up north, as far north as north goes, dere's a big mountain shaped like a dragon's head. An' up near da top o' da mountain, dere's a giant cave dat looks like da dragon's open mouth. Dat's da reason dey call da place Dragon's Mouth. Well, us direwolves used ta have a city inside dat cave. We carved magnificent buildin's outta da stone. Dere was plenny o' room inside for us all."
"Sounds like a fantastic place," said Brian.
Vinny lowered his head. "Well, it used to be, anyway."
Arya was pretty sure she knew how this story ended, but she asked anyway. "What happened to it?"
"Monsters came," said Vinny. "Dey looked like humans, but dey were made outta ice. An' dey attacked Dragon's Mouth again an' again, killin' an' destroyin', till at last da direwolves were driven out, an' da city was in ruins."
"White Walkers," Brian whispered.
"White Walkers," Vinny agreed. "Da White Walkers took Dragon's Mouth from us. Afterward us wolves were scattered to da winds. More an' more of us died. I been alone for years. Yer da first one o' my kind I seen in a long time, Brian. For all I know, you an' me might be da last two direwolves left in da world."
"I know how that feels," Dany said quietly. "I lost my family, too."
"Vinny, could you guide us to this Dragon's Mouth place?" Brian asked. "You won't have to worry about running into White Walkers there anymore. They're all gone."
The cheerful tone came back into Vinny's voice. "Sure! It's da least I can do after you guys saved my life!"
