Nothing is, as it seems

James looked over at Lily. She was sleeping peacefully, probably having a good dream, judging by the gentle smile one her soft delicate lips. A lock fell on her face, ticking her cheek and she pouted in her sleep. James smiled and brushed the flaming lock away. She was so beautiful. He caressed her cheek lovingly with his palm. It was dark but the light from the street lamp was enough for him to admire everything about her. He loved watching her sleep, lying at his side. He smiled lightly, remembering their days at Hogwarts, how she despised him and he had worshiped her.

Back then she never knew he was being serious when he told her he loved her, back then she just brushed him off, breaking his heart but making him try again and again. He gave her presents in holidays, he brought her flowers, he did everything he could but she was stone cold. She threw away everything he'd given her. But now it wasn't so. Now he got back as much affection and love and care as he gave her. He smiled yet again, remembering the time it all actually started. It was their seventh year. She signed up to say in the school for holidays. He did too; he always did when she stayed. A mere momentary glimpse of her in the common room was enough to make his day complete. He could just sit and watch her reading in the library, trying hard to hide behind a book but failing most times, ending up with her storming out or hitting him with a book and shooting frustrated glares. This time she stayed which surprised him and made his heart sore at the same time. He was used to getting his hopes up, just simply trying to imagine them together, he would give her everything- the world, the stars, the moon, his soul, his mind and heart were already with her though she knew not about it. The last time she stayed at Hogwarts for Christmas was her first year; everything was new to her back then, the magic, the school, her friends. And now she did too. The week before Christmas she was just ignoring him, without nasty comments, without yelling, simply as if he wasn't there. He was in despair; this was worse then her raging at him now and then. But the day of Christmas, the moment she appeared at the top of the stairs of the girls' dormitories, changed everything. He thought his heart was going to burst with happiness, love, affection, all the good things of life when he saw her wearing the ring that he gave her for Christmas. The common room was deserted so no one saw him running to her and taking her in his arms and twirling her around and around. She was smiling and laughing. There was warmth in her eyes when she looked at him that he has never seen before and from that day forth they never left each other's side. They got married right after graduation.

He looked at the baby cradle standing bear their bed. He could make out Harry's baby breath as he slept. He stood up and kissed his forehead gently. The child stirred but didn't awake. James smiled and came back to Lily's side and put his arm around her. In her sleep she snuggled closer to him. He had a wonderful family, amazing friends, a good house and a small fortune. He couldn't care less what happened outside his world. His life was more then he could ever dream off. He fell asleep, thinking how lucky he was.
