Chapter 2: A Purrrfect Romance

"Whoa..." Korina said in awe.
"This is you base?" Zoey said amazed.
Caleb smiled in amusement at their admiration. "Sure is."
"It looks like straight out of the witch trial days of the 1600s." Rene said as they looked around going down the stairs.
Pogue huffed a laugh. "Actually, it is. We just inherited it."
"How cool! I've studied on that period. Amazing to see and touch things from that time." Bridget said in fascination.
Tyler smiled. "You find it fascinating too?"
Bridget and Tyler went into talking about their thoughts on the Salem witch trials then happily, but stopped when they all got to the center of the room. The mews took it in. It was pretty cool; old style candles of different sizes all throughout the room giving it that natural lighting, shelves full of books surrounding the outside border of the room, while the center had a block of stone with a spiral circle ingraved along with five lines coming out of it forming a star that was also ingraved. Surrounding this stone block was 5 flattened stone pillars and a box at the base of each one, looking like chairs. It in the formation of a star as well. The sons sat on the make-shift chairs while the Mews stood between them.
"So...you say these...Cyniclons want to take over earth. And to do that, they need to get rid of you. So they send these jellyfish infuser things to send monsters after you all the time?" Caleb began, making sure he understood.
"Yep, that about sums it up." Kiki nodded.
Tyler looked very intrigued and deep in thought. "Interesting. So what do these Cyniclons look like?"
Korina chimed in. "They all have a pale complection, long elf ears, and can levitate."
"Ears being the signature. Very hard to miss with those ears." Rene supplied.
Caleb nodded. "Noted. We'll keep a look out for em."
"So where are you girls from?" Pogue asked.
"We live in Boston." Said Zoey.
"So that's why we never knew of the threat. You live a ways." Mention Caleb.
"Can we talk about how you look like animals? Are the wings, antena, ears and tails real?" Reid asked.
"Yeah, they're real," Zoey started. "We can explain that better if you come to Cafe' Mew Mew."
"Cafe' what now?" Tyler asked.
"Cafe' Mew Mew. It's a cafe' that specializes in desserts. It doubles as our base." Rene explained.
"It's also the home of Wesley and Elliot." Said Korina.
Reid's attention was grabbed immidiately at the mention of that guy they say he looks like. Jealous of the guy for him being around and knowing Zoey. And now another guy? He wants to get to the bottom of it.
"Then let's go." Reid said eagerly as he quickly stood.
Caleb raised a brow. "Go? Go now?"
"Hell yeah, go now! Why not?" Reid said more eagerly.
Tyler looked amused and surprised. "What's got you so worked up?"
"What do you mean? I'm not. I just want to find out more, don't you?" Reid said trying to seem nonchalant.
"Well, yeah-" Tyler said, but was cut off by an enthusiastic Reid.
"Then come on, what are you waiting for?"
"Hold on Reid," Caleb began. "That place is all the way in Boston. That's like what, 40 minutes away. It's late, we should go tomorrow."
Pogue nodded. "Yeah, sounds more reasonable."
Tyler looked at Ried and shrugged in a way saying he sides with them.
Reid sighed. "Fine. We'll go tomorrow."
Caleb smiled. "Good. We should turn in for the night. It was nice meeting you girls. We'll see you tomorrow?"
Zoey smiled back in a nod. "Nice meeting you too. And yes, tomorrow."
"Alright. We'll meet back here at noon." Caleb decided.
Outside of the coloney house, as everyone went back home to get some sleep, Reid snuck his hand in Zoey's while she was walking away and pulled her back to him when no one was around close, spining her, his other arm resting around her waist to hold her close. Zoey's breath caught during the whole thing.
"Wanna stay with me a bit longer?" Reid said softly in a charming voice that made Zoey melt.
"Y-y-yeah." She blushed.
Reid's eyes went black and they disappeared only to reappear at the dells where they were before earlier in the day, but they were at the cliff side this time over looking the sandy beach and ocean below and the beautiful crescent moon and thousands of stars up above, the forest behind them.
"Wow...how'd we get here?" Zoey asked stunned.
Reid smirked down at her. "I did tell you we are witches."
Zoey looked up at him in amazement. "You teleported us. How cool," She looked around. "This is so romantic." She said in admiration of the beauty that surrounds them.
"I know," Reid grinned. "That's why I came here,"
He looked at her with such softness in his blue eyes and brought his hand up to run the back of his fingers down her face slowly in a caress.
"You are...so beautiful...you deserve a view that's just as beautiful,"
Zoey blushed so hard now. 'OH MY GOOOOD! He's mega hitting on me now! He's so dreamy...' Zoey excitedly thought. She felt like she was gonna burst.
As they locked eyes for a while, Reid slowly began leaning down closer till his lips met hers in a romantic, deep kiss. Reid rested his forehead on hers once their lips separated and caught his breath.
"Damn," He breathed out in a whisper. "Girl, you are somethin. Makin' me feel things I never felt before."
Zoey gave a little chuckle. "Me too." She whispered back.
"I guess we better go so we can get some sleep. As much as I hate to leave you." Reid said with some reluctance.
"Yeah. Good night...Reid." She said separating from him.
"Good night Zoey." He leaned in for one more kiss, then disappeared, teleporting to his house.
Once he was gone, Zoey did a little excited tapping of her feet and squeeled happily at what happened. She couldn't wait to tell her friends!
It was noon the next day. All the sons and Mews met up at Caleb's coloney house, the Mews untransformed. Because they looked normal, the sons didn't recognize them right away, but knew it had to be them since no one else knows about the coloney house. When Zoey and Reid's eyes met, Zoey blushed tramendously. Reid just smirked charmingly and gave her a little wink.
"We almost didn't recognize you girls. You don't look anything like you did yesterday." Caleb noticed.
"Ah, yeah, this is what we really look like when we're not kicking cyniclon butt." Kiki said.
Caleb smiled and turned to the other sons."So we'll take mine and Tyler's car to Boston." Caleb stated.
Pogue tapped Caleb's shoulder. "Uh, hey, Cay. You do know we can just teleport us all there, right?"
Tyler and Reid also stared at Caleb. Caleb huffed a sigh.
"Okay...I forgot about that...don't even," Caleb said when he heard Tyler and Reid make the sounds of pent up laughter.
Caleb rolled his eyes. "I really wasn't thinking about it. I've grown use to doing normal human things to blend in. Alright, we'll have to hold hands to teleport the girls with us."
So they all formed a circle holding hands. Zoey and Reid ended up holding hands. Reid caressed it with his thumb a little, it going unoticed by everyone. Bridget and Tyler also ended up holding hands, Bridget blushing while Tyler looked excited to hold her hand. The sons then focused on the place they wanted to go, Cafe' Mew Mew, then they disappeared.
They all now stood in front of the really cute building that had a few different shades of pink and had hearts everywhere, even the windows being heart shaped. The paper on the stand saying Cafe' Mew Mew and a few food items they offer.
"Wow...this place looks..." Tyler started.
"Cute." Pogue finished.
"Why thank you." Zoey said as she led them inside.
The Mews went first, then the witches. It was just as cute inside as it was on the outside. The back of the chairs were hearts as well which went great with the theme.
"Boys, this is Cafe' Mew Mew." Introduced Rene.
The sons looked around. It looked fitting for the girls.
"You said it doubles as your base," Reid began, looking around in confusion. "But I don't see anything base like."
"It's in the back." Said Bridget.
"This is just the cafe' part of the building. Follow us and we'll take you to our base." Korina said as she lead the way.
They opened the back doors, went past the bakery area down a hallway to another set of double doors. Right when they got there in front of the doors, Wesley and Elliot came out.
"Uh...hello?" Wesley said in confusion.
Elliot glared at the girls. "And what are you girls doing that would involve taking strangers back here? You know this area is off limits to the public for obvious reasons."
"Uh-Elliot-well-you see-" Zoey rushed out nerviously as always when it came to Elliot's intimidating deminor.
Kiki helped explain. "We bumped into these guys while we were Mew Mew-fied and so they know what we are. We were going to show them our base and explain fully what we are and what our mission is since they showed us theirs and what they were."
"What they were? What do you mean?" Asked Wesley.
"We're witches." Caleb said.
Elliot huffed. "Sorry, I'm afraid we're going to have to have some proof before I can let you back here."
The sons looked at Caleb for permission, Caleb nodded. So their eyes went black. Elliot wouldn't admit it, but he was spooked when they did that. Wesley was intrigued, always excited for new discoveries.
Wesley smiled. "It is true! Real witches! That's amazing. I'm Wesley J Coolridge, and this is my work partner and friend Elliot Grant. We run and own Cafe' Mew Mew and are the makers of the Mew Mew project."
The sons introduced themselves, then looked between Reid and Elliot.
"The girls were right. Reid and Elliot do look a lot alike." Pogue smiled in amusement.
Elliot and Reid looked at each other confused, huffed, and looked away.
"No way." They said at the same time, making everyone laugh.
"Do come in." Wesley invited as he opened the doors.
The sons followed Wesley and Elliot to some computers filled with other tech on the tables. There was a big screen on the wall behind it.
"This is the Mew Mew base. The girls said they wanted to let you know exactly what they are, and we will get to that. But first we should take you to the beginning," Wesley explained.
"Elliot's father had begun some research on infusing human DNA with near extinct Red Data animal DNA. The reason being that he spotted alien life forms here on earth that weren't friendly. He thought he could come up with a way of creating the perfect superhero to save our planet. Before he could get a breakthrough, he died. Elliot found his research and he and I have picked up where his father left off. It took a few years. We even almost gave up until we were experiencing the same alien attacks. That got us working harder, and we finally had success in completing the project. Project Mew Mew."
Elliot took it from there. "We found Zoey in the area and her DNA matched that of a Red Data Animal. We shot the beam, Zoey and the other girls' DNA responded to it. And that's how they became as they are now," Elliot turned toward the screen as it turned on.
"I'm sure they told you about predasites." He said.
Caleb nodded. "Yes. What are predasites exactly?"
"A predasite is a normal animal taken over by an infuser." Explained Elliot.
"Which is those jellyfish looking things?" Tyler asked.
Elliot nodded. "Yes. The aliens who call themselves Cyniclons use them to carryout their dirty work. As far as we can tell, the Cyniclons have no planet of their own. Probably because they used up all it's natural resources. Either way, they see earth as a good alternitive, and they are sending alien spirit beings called infusers to try and destroy us."
"Way freaky," Said Pogue. "So it is like a real alien invasion. I see why you girls have powers now."
"Totally wacked out how they think they can just destroy earth all because they don't have a planet." Tyler said getting angry at the thought.
Reid grinned."Jealousy anyone? I say those aliens can't stand how happy we are on ours. So that's what's giving them a drive to come after us." Reid stated.
Wesley smiled. "I think you're right on that. But yes, that's why these girls have animals in them. Rene, the Gray Wolf; Kiki, the Tamberin Lion Monkey; Bridget, the Black Finless Porpous; Korina, the Blue Lorakeet; And of course, the leader, Zoey, the Ireomote Wild Cat. They all draw power from the endangered animals they've all been bonded with. But their strength fully lies in their ability to work as a team."
Caleb smiled."That's pretty awesome. You girls are impressive."
The girls smiled at that. Tyler gazed at them in awe. "This is the coolest thing I've ever seen! Real Superheros!"
"Yeah it's pretty sweet. I have to ask, niether of you are Zoey's boyfriend, right?" Reid glared at the two boys. Zoey was freaking out that he said that.
Elliot raised a surprised brow. "Of course not."
Wesley gave a polite smile. "With all due respect, no, Zoey is only a friend, a sister more like."
Zoey's face was so red, she could blend into a pile of strawberries.
Reid gave a satisfied grin and nod. "Good."
The other girls looked curiously between Zoey and Reid, figuring something was going on with them two. After another hour, the sons decided it was time to go home. After they said their farewell to Elliot and Wesley, they tuned to the girls.
"It's been a great adventure." Said Pogue in a grin.
"Yeah, it was a blast. We'll come back here sometime, chill and eat instead of going to our usual Nicky's one night." Caleb decided.
Zoey gazed happily at him. "Of course! We'll be happy to have you."
Reid grabbed Zoey's hand. "And I'll be happy to have you."
Zoey squealed, especially when he kissed her hand.
The other girls smirked. "We knew it!" They all replied.
Tyler followed his idea and grabbed Bridget's hand and kissed it.
"Till I see you again." He said charmingly with an attractive smile.
Now the girls weren't expecting that one. Telling by the surprise on Pogue, Caleb, and Reid's faces, they weren't expecting it either. Elliot and Wesley were standing in the background happy to witness the exchange. Bridget was a blushing mess of course, her eyes glossed over in adoration. and with that, the sons' eyes went black and they disappeared. Bridget pinched herself.
"Uh what are you doing?" Korina asked in confusion.
"Seeing if I was dreaming. I'm not dreaming! Oh my gosh, you guys! He actually kissed me!" Bridget gushed.
Rene smiled, happy someone has a crush on her. "We saw. We're so happy for you, Bridget," She looked to Zoey next. "As for you, I'm sure we're all dying to know how long you've had a thing for Reid."
Zoey's strangled noise of embarassment only urged them on more.
"Yeah-yeah, tell us! Tell us!" Kiki cheered.
Zoey groaned. "Fine! But not in front of Wesley and Elliot!"
The other girls laughed in triumph. "Yes!"
It's been a couple hours since the sons have been home. Pogue decided to hang out with Caleb at his house while Reid hung out with Tyler at Tyler's house.
"I think it's pretty obvious now that Reid likes Zoey." Said Pogue as they stood on the little bridge of Caleb's yard.
Caleb huffed a laugh. "Ya think?"
They laughed a little. "Looks like Tyler has himself a girlfriend too. Who would've thought!" Pogue said still shocked.
Caleb shook his head. "I know, it's a shock for me too. He's so shy, I didn't think he would ever land a girlfriend. Bridget seems shy too. Probably what made him feel a little more comfortable with talking to her."
Pogue grinned. "Yeah, they do seem similar. Perfect match."
Concern showed in Caleb's eyes for a split second. "I just hope Reid actually feels deeply for Zoey considering he's never been in a ralationship. He likes girls in general, never one girl."
"Ah, I think it'll be just fine. Zoey has a charm to her and she's not an average girl like the girls Reid typically flirts with. I think they'll hit it off for sure."
Caleb smiled at Pogue. "Yeah...you're probably right."
Sometime during Caleb speaking just then, a jellyfish looking creature floated by in the distance in full sight of the two.
Pogue blinked at it once Caleb stopped talking and focused his eyes on it. Noticing Pogue was looking at something, Caleb looked in the same direction and sees it.
"Is that...?" Caleb asked.
"Looks like it. It's a spirit looking jellyfish."
Caleb gazed at Pogue in worry. "Then it's one of thoes infuser things."
Pogue's eyes widen. "The ones that guy Elliot talked about?"
Caleb nodded. "Yeah. I bet it's looking for something to fuse with and turn it into one of those monsters the girls fight. Come on, let's follow it. I'll call Zoey, you call Reid and Tyler and tell them to get here quickly."
Pogue nodded and they did just that. The sons have never seen these things here before. They thought they never would. They were wrong.
"Hey, Zoey? We have a problem."
