Thalia's eyes fluttered open, and a soft groan left her. She had a headache, probably the remnants of her day of drinking. Thalia slowly remembered the rest of her night, and a scowl came to her face. That Nico dude was a fucking asshole. A terrifying asshole at that.
Thalia swallowed painfully and felt that her mouth was dry. She lifted her head from the pillow and realized that it wasn't an actual pillow. It was Reyna's chest. Thalia's gaze shot to the woman in surprise. Reyna was laying on her back and was asleep. One of her hands was resting on Thalia's back, and soft snores left her every few moments.
A blanket had been thrown around her, and she vaguely remembered crying herself to sleep in Reyna's arms. Because of that asshole Nico. A sigh left Thalia, and she laid her head back on Reyna's chest. The two of them had been drunk and almost had sex. What the hell were they going to do now? Thalia had plenty of one-night stands before, but she usually slipped out before the other person woke up. That wasn't so possible now, considering they needed to work together.
Thalia shifted underneath the blanket and pulled it closer to herself. After a few moments, she took the blanket off and threw it around herself and Reyna. A soft groan escaped Reyna, and she shifted. Thalia tensed, but Reyna didn't shift anymore. She seemed to fall into a deeper sleep.
Thalia snuggled against the other woman and closed her eyes. Despite everything that had happened the night before, it was the best sleep she had gotten in months. Thalia allowed herself to relax, and before she knew it, she heard a soft alarm going off. Her eyes snapped open, and she realized it was Reyna's watch.
Reyna gently removed her arm from around Thalia's waist and turned off the alarm. She rubbed her eyes and groaned softly. Thalia spoke, "Morning."
"It was morning hours ago," Reyna said softly. She groaned and laid her head back. "Fuck. My head hurts."
"Mine too," Thalia admitted. She looked up at Reyna and studied her. Reyna had one hand to her face and was massaging her left temple.
"I don't think I've drunk that much since Hylla died," Reyna said. She continued to rub her temple and gritted her teeth. "Fuck."
Reyna rolled off of the bed, and Thalia pulled away. She heard Reyna barely make it to the bathroom before she started vomiting. Thalia was pretty sure she had vomited her guts out back at the police station. Or was it in the police car?
Thalia slowly rolled out of the bed and walked towards the bathroom. She stepped inside and held Reyna's hair back as the woman puked enough to make Thalia sick to her stomach. Reyna's hand clutched the toilet seat until her knuckles had turned white.
"It's okay," Thalia whispered. She rubbed Reyna's back with one hand. "Maybe not. You vomiting might make me do it too."
Thalia looked away as the smells and sounds started to get to her. She didn't have a weak stomach, but it also felt like her stomach had been left at the police station. Reyna finally stopped and collapsed against the toilet seat. She wiped her lips of the gross green liquid.
"Remind me never to drink again," Reyna groaned. Thalia flushed the toilet for her and then studied Reyna. "What?"
"I think we need to talk. About us," Thalia began. Reyna slowly met her eyes. "Where do we stand after what happened?"
"I don't know," Reyna admitted. She wiped her lips again and laid her head back. "Just blame it on being drunk?"
"I...I think that's a good idea," Thalia agreed. It was easier that way. They didn't have to worry about getting feelings for each other or anything complicated like that. Thalia stood and offered her hand. Reyna took it, and the two left the bathroom.
"Do you have any medicine?" Thalia asked. Reyna walked towards her desk and opened a small drawer. She dug through it and pulled out medicine. Reyna took some and then tossed the bottle to Thalia. After grabbing water, Thalia took some medicine herself and then promptly curled up in the bed.
Reyna slowly laid next to her and groaned softly. She spoke, "Sorry about Nico. He's intense."
"If that's what you call being an asshole," Thalia replied. "Piper said that Nico lost someone too, but he won't work with the Hunters of Artemis because of something that happened with the lieutenant."
"Yeah. It's not my place to repeat it," Reyna said quietly. Thalia shifted and looked at Reyna. Their faces were only inches apart.
"If Nico hates Luke, the Hunter's lieutenant doesn't like him, you don't, and I sure as fuck don't, why the fuck can't we work together? Why can't we put our fucking pride aside and work to eliminate this threat?" Thalia asked in a shrill voice.
"Thalia, I know. Okay? I know," Reyna said. She gently grabbed Thalia's hand. "I have been trying to convince Nico, but the truth is that the Hunters used someone very close to Nico as bait for Luke. It didn't go as planned, and Nico swore he would never work with them again."
Reyna sighed and buried her face in the pillow. Thalia groaned again and laid her head back. Reyna spoke quietly, "Octavian spoke to his police contacts to put a warrant out for our arrest. I'm guessing the bar owners saw pictures of our sketches on TV, and they called the cops."
"And, we were too busy making out to notice," Thalia commented.
"I think we were both too drunk," Reyna said with a shrug. She chuckled slightly. "Know any good hangover food that delivers?"
"Plenty," Thalia answered. "Does anyone actually deliver here?"
"The only person who won't get mugged here is the delivery driver. Everyone respects them," Reyna replied. She buried her face further into the pillow. "Fuck. I think my head is going to explode."
"I think you finished about twelve beers," Thalia remarked. Reyna groaned again. Thalia smirked and moved closer to the other woman, enjoying her warmth.
"How are you not dying right now?" Reyna complained. She seemed to bury her face further and further into the pillow. Thalia laughed and gently rubbed Reyna's back. The other woman tensed at first before relaxing her shoulders.
"Plenty of experience," Thalia answered as she deepened the massage. "You have a phone to order food?"
"Payphone down the hall," Reyna muttered. She slowly looked at Thalia. Reyna didn't say anything and seemed to be studying Thalia. Things felt different between the two of them now.
Thalia wasn't sure if it was her finally snapping at Reyna and telling her to stop being an asshole. Was it them getting drunk together and making out? Did Nico help bring them closer? Or, was it the spiral that Reyna seemed to be going down?
"My wallet is in my jacket. Order whatever you want and the same for me," Reyna said. She buried her face back in the pillow. "Fuck me."
"I tried," Thalia teased. She saw Reyna's face turn red. Thalia smirked and slowly stood. She walked towards Reyna's jacket and pulled out the wallet inside. She grabbed a card and scanned it. "A platinum credit card? Who the fuck did you steal this from?"
"It's mine," Reyna answered. "The Ramirez-Arellano family is, as you would say, rich as fuck. I never officially died according to government records, and when my sister was killed, her inheritance became mine. It was great to be questioned and asked if I killed her for the estate."
"Fucking assholes," Reyna muttered. She turned on her back and placed both hands to her face. "Fuck. Why is this medicine not working?"
"You need to give it time," Thalia said. She studied the credit card again and then left the room. Thalia walked down the hall and tensed. What worried her the most was that she hadn't really seen anyone else who lived in this shithole, and she wasn't sure if it was because they were too fucked up to come out or knew better than to be found in the hallways.
Thalia made it to the payphone and shoved a few quarters inside. She was able to find the address of the apartment complex and looked back to find Reyna's apartment number. Then, she called her favorite food place and ordered fifty dollars worth of food. After hanging up, she turned around. Her heart nearly left her throat.
"Fuck. I thought you were going to mug me," Thalia exhaled as she placed a hand to her heart.
"Sorry," Piper said. She held her hands up. "I didn't mean to scare you. Is Reyna here?"
"She is," Thalia answered, and she motioned for Piper to follow her. The two walked down the hallway. "Why are you here?"
"I saw what happened to Octavian, and we have a lead on where Luke is," Piper answered. Thalia stopped walking and stared at her. She knew that Luke was always surrounded by his guards and henchmen. Even with all those men around him, it was still hard to find him. When Thalia was dating him, she never knew where he was. He always sent someone to pick her up.
"Where?" Thalia slowly asked. Piper started to walk towards Reyna's apartment again. Thalia followed and opened the door. "Reyna, I brought a guest."
Thalia stepped into the apartment and looked at Reyna. The woman was laying on her back but had the pillow pressed against her face. After a moment, Reyna lowered the pillow and stared at Piper. It was hard to read the look on her face, but she slowly sat up.
"Piper," Reyna said stiffly. There was a scowl on her face, and it was angrier than her usual scowl. Reyna's glare made Thalia want to shrink away.
"Reyna," Piper returned. The two of them watched each other for a long moment, and there was a weird tension between the two. It wasn't the kind of tension between two people who hated each other. Thalia knew this kind of awkwardness.
"You two had sex," Thalia blurted out. She didn't mean to just say it, but the thought came to her head. The words just slipped out after. Reyna blushed, and the scowl somehow deepened. Piper blushed as well. "Shit. I made this more awkward."
"Thalia, just shut up," Reyna hissed. She looked at Piper. "What do you want?"
"We know where Luke is," Piper answered. Reyna stared at her, but she remained impassive. "He's alone. This is the time to take him out."
"If we can trust you," Reyna retorted. She eyed Piper carefully. "I know all about the tactics of your group."
"What happened to-"
"Don't," Reyna interrupted. "Nico doesn't forgive you, and I won't work either. I only work with you when I have to, and you can just give us the information we need and go."
"Of course," Piper grounded out. She held out an envelope. Thalia took it and opened it. She studied the pictures of Luke in an apartment, and her body tensed. Just seeing his face brought back all kinds of memories. Bad memories. She put the pictures back in the envelope and pulled out a piece of paper with an address and another with notes on Luke's schedule.
"He'll probably move soon, since you killed Octavian," Piper began.
"I could have guessed," Reyna muttered. Her glare never left Piper. "Why are you still here?"
A frown came to Piper's face, but she nodded stiffly. She turned and walked out of the apartment. Thalia called after her, "Thanks, Piper."
Then, Thalia turned towards Reyna, "Do you have to be such an asshole?"
"Yes," Reyna answered. She snatched the envelope from Thalia and went through it. Thalia glared at her and threw the credit card at her. She sat on the opposite side of the bed. Reyna didn't say a word, and just like that, Thalia felt like they were back to square one.
