Here is the final chapter. I hope everyone enjoyed the story.
Reyna stared down at the ground in front of her, still covered in the blood and guts of Luke's men. They had made sure that any of the guards around Luke's hotel were killed, so his stain would be cleansed from the world. She stood to the right of Nico's throne, just as she did everyday.
Nico sat with a small frown. Exhaustion rested in his eyes. Bianca stood across from him, looking in a similar state. The last few hours had been long and gruesome. Reyna just wanted to get the day over with.
"Not many of my Hunters survived," Bianca began. She looked away. "Piper is helping take care of the survivors. We'll stay here and try to stabilize the city."
"I know some demigods that I can send your way to help," Nico suggested. He glanced to his side. "Reyna will as well."
Reyna only offered a small nod. She would do whatever Nico asked. As she always did. Bianca glanced at her, and she held a sympathetic look. Reyna averted her gaze to the ground.
"All it took was us working together. And the help of a demigod," Bianca commented.
"It's the last time we'll do that," Nico stated with finality.
"You know you enjoyed it," Bianca teased. Nico scoffed, but Reyna knew him well enough. He did enjoy the time spent with his sister. It had been a long time since the two had a common goal.
The city was going to be brought back from the brink, even if it was slowly. The hunters had been hard at work ever since Ethan died to trace his network of pimps. The most cruel and violent now laid in the gutter. As for the rest, money would be given to them as long as they treated their women right.
With Bryce gone, the gangs no longer had their iron fist to keep them under control. Reyna was going to have to step in to fill that role and then find a few underlings to keep everything in order. It helped that Octavian no longer controlled the police, as they would no longer be selective in who they did or didn't arrest.
It also sounded like the cops had done some spring cleaning of their officers, now that Octavian wasn't there to hold his money over them. As for Orion, all that mattered was that the bastard was in the ground.
And Luke.
The bastard was finally dead. Reyna had been waiting so long to watch his corpse hit the ground, and she should have been happy. Instead, she was just drained. A small part of her was not angry but annoyed at Bianca and Nico for taking so long to get their shit together. If they had done that long ago, they wouldn't have had to use the gun.
Or get Thalia killed.
Reyna closed her eyes in pure exhaustion. She knew it was going to end this way. The sixth bullet was always destined to kill whoever possessed the gun. That was its curse. She just didn't think it would hurt this much. Reyna never planned to get attached to Thalia, let alone fall for her.
"Luke is finally dead," Nico said softly. Reyna forced her eyes open. Bianca had left, leaving her and Nico alone. Reyna moved her gaze to her boss. "Are you happy?"
Reyna remained silent. Nico stood from his throne and turned to face her, "You knew what would happen when you set off on this mission. You knew that the sixth bullet was meant for her. Now, your sister is avenged. At the cost of Thalia's life."
"If it makes you feel any better, she's with her brother now. I've made sure they are together and happy. It's the least that I could do," Nico stated. Reyna kept her arms behind her back and stared at the ground, unable to meet Nico's eyes. "That leaves me with one question for you."
"Was it worth it?"
"No."
