The ground beneath them glowed a greenish color and stem erupted out of cracks. Kovu looked around and gasped when he saw a large lion standing on an outcropping of rock and staring down at them, no at the hyenas that were crowded around them. One of the dog like animals walked right through Jack and Kovu realized that this was a vision, probably cast by Facilier. A geyser went off close to the lion and Kovu gasped, it looked like the adult version of him from the card. The lion cub leapt from Jokul's arms and ran towards the rock.
Panting Kovu reached the adult lion just as his whispered words were floating on the wind. (1) "I never thought Hyenas essential. Their crude and unspeakably plain. But maybe they have a glimmer of potential. If aligned to my vision and brains."
The adult lion leapt, with no fear, straight down the rocks. His large paws touching and bouncing off foot holds seemingly far to small for them and in lightning quick movements. He landed among the hyenas, scattering them, and began stalking through the green light. Before Kovu could jump after him Jokul picked him up and floated them down. The adult lion turned to a Hyena who was gnawing on a bone with their back to him. "I know that your powers of retention are as wet as a warthog's backside." He pounced and waked the bone away. "But thick as you are pay attention. My words are a matter of pride. It's clear from your vacant expression that the lights are not all on upstairs." The hyenas looked confused than angry, they hunched into an attack stance. However the adult lion attacked first. "But even you can't be caught unawares!" The hyenas proved him right by getting out of the way just in time. The adult lion smiled approvingly and continued on.
Smiling at each of the gathered animals he nodded at them and they followed him as he climbed the rocks. "So prepare for a chance of a lifetime. Prepare for sensational news. A shiny new era is tiptoeing nearer."
One hyena called out a question of what they had to do to get this promised new era.
The adult lion wasn't fazed. "Just listen to teacher." He put a paw to his chest. "I know it's unsorted but you'll be rewarded when at last I am given my dues. So for justice deliciously squared, be prepared!"
The hyenas were excited now and it didn't take long for the adult lion to get them into organized ranks and start training them. Kovu watched both fascinated and uneasily. If this was him he was going to be an amazing leader but the training looked more like that of an army whose intent was order through fear. They learned to attack without mercy and only look up to and obey the adult. His observation proved to be right when towards the end of the training the hyenas formed into rows and marched passed the lion on a higher rock. Shivers went through him as they sang and cheered evilly. "Long live the king, long live the king!"
Their voices filled the rocky area like a never ending echo. "It's great that we'll soon be connected to a king who'll be all-time adored." When each row was directly below the lion they snapped their heads to him.
"Of course with pro-quo you're expected to take certain duties on board." One claw extended paw digit raised and made a cutting motion across his throat in explanation.
Kovu felt Jokul tighten his grip, that was the only outward appearance of his inner anger. But the cub could feel the rage boiling inside the winter spirit.
More promises flowed from the lion's mouth then he leaped into his troops and roared: "The point I must emphasize though is, you won't get a sniff without me!" The ground began to break apart as he stepped purposefully across them. Like a mountain rising in high speed movies the rocky land rose up. The lion was on the top peek with groups of hyenas on each lower peek below him. "Prepare for the coup of the century. Be prepared for the merciless scam. I'll be king undisputed, respected, saluted, and seen for the wonder I am!"
As the lion pumped up his own self-worth the hyenas called out their own cheers to each other. "We'll have food, lots for you, lots for me, we repeat, endless meat."
"My teeth and ambitions are bared! So be prepared!"
The hyenas laughed! "Yes our teeth and ambitions are bared, we're prepared!"
The scene faded till all they could see was the sharp evil grins of the lion and his vicious, merciless army.
Tears were in kovu's eyes. Am I really going to grow up to be like that? He wondered.
Than a memory of what Facilier had said just before he plunged them into the void. "I hope you're satisfied, but if you ain't don't blame me."
Kovu had shook the witch doctor's hand, did this mean he had sealed a deal and now it was too late to go back?
