Song: Boundin

As the midnight hour dwindled some of the Halloween fair goers started to depart. Ghosts drifted into the sky next to banshies. Myth and legends of scary tales bid farewell as they slipped into the shadows of the woods. Jokul found the Guardians and gave a deep roil looking bow, then like someone flipping a switch the ice scythe returned to the shepherd's staff and the hash atmosphere was replaced with that of fun. Jack frost was back.

"So what did you think."

The question prompted a tidal wave of sound as the three talkers started all exclamation their opinions at once. Jack casually leaned on his staff as he took all their impout in and chuckled slightly as Jokul made a comment about them inside Jack's head.

In the end, though, it wasn't Jack or even Sandy who got them to quiet down. It was Bunny! The Pooka's ears picked up the sound of what could be big footsteps and his nose twitched as a sent so close to his own reached him. "Shhhhh!" Bunny was now completely turned form the group as he continued to twitch his ears and sniff the air. "Something's up, someone's coming!"

Something white and bouncing was just visible on a thin path. As it got closer the 'boom, boom' he had thought were footsteps grew louder and were in sink with each landing of the bouncing cheater. Scurrying in the white things wake were a group of small rodents, possibly prairie dogs, a rattlesnake, a burrowing owl, and a desert bird called a flycatcher who started to whistle a tune in time with the 'boom's' beat.

(1) The white thing turned out to be a sheep with the brightest, cleanest coat Bunny had ever seen. But the animal was even more confusing to the pooka because he could have sworn he smelled a rabbit like creature not a sheep. A loud voice seemed to come from above and told of the little lamb that lived in the desert mounted plane. How his flees was his pride and he preened so much that he'd dance. This sent the Sheep and all the animals with him into a high stepping dance.

"Then one day," The dancing stopped as the sound of a backfiring car broke the music. The shadow of a vehicle with a flatbed back was visible in the spot light provided by a few pixies. Out of the shadow door came the shadow of a farmer. The sheep acted scared then was 'pulled' into the trees and out of sight. "The man was quick and shaved him bare then sent him back to fresh prairie air." The sheep was 'thrown' back into view now completely shaved of the sparkling flees. The animals that had come with him started to laugh and rolled in the ground in myth. Then pointing and jeering they all continued on the path leaving the now pink sheep alone and cold.

The 'boom boom' returned and Bunny could now see something tanish gold coming from the same path as the sheep. The music picked back up again as the voice continued the narration.

"Then aboundin up the slope came a great american Jackalope!". Into view came a rabbit bouncing on it's back paws. He was as tall as Bunny, albeit far more round around the middle. His ears hung on either side of his head and from the crown of his skull sprouted two antlers-an amazing rack of five points on each one. The Jackalope paused as he came across the sheep. Then smiling kindly he leaned down to the sullen mammal. "Hay kid, why the moop?" He asked in his narrator voice.

With a sniff the sheep stood up and told the rabbit with antlers: "I used to be someone all covered in fluff. I'd dance in the sunlight and show off my stuff. But then they hauled me away and sheared me and dumped me back here on the Bluff. And now all my friends laugh at me because they think I look ridiculous, funny, and pink."

The laughs of the sheep's friends grew louder when the sheep confused how he looked. The scowl of the Jackalope however got them to clam up. The Rabbit with antlers looked perplexed. "Pink, what's wrong with pink? Sounds like you got a pink kink in your think. Doesn't matter what color you are, be it pink/purple/or heliotrope. Now sometimes your up and sometimes your down." The Jackalope shrugged. "When you find that your down, well just look around. You still have a body, good legs, and fine feet, get your head in the right place and hay your complete!"

The Sheep smiled and got on his back legs to smile and stand tall by the Jackalope. Happy that the sheep was looking on the bright side the Jackalope smiled back. Then he took a few clumsy dance steps. "Now as for the dancing you can do more!" He hoped over and winked at the sheep. "You can reach great heights, in fact you can soar, Just get a leg up and slap it on down and you'll find that your up in what's called a bound!" With a slap that shook the ground a bit the Jackalope bounced high. As he came down the beat of his 'booms' fit in perfect time with the music.

The Sheep looked at his feet then lifted his left leg with a slap was right up there with the Rabbit! The bounded in circles then straight into the clearing. The young people in the audience all giggled in happy glee and several slapped their own legs down to join in the fun. The sheep's friends saw this and looking appropriately ashamed they came to apologize to the Sheep. Happy to have them back the sheep forgave them and invited them to try boundin as well.

The Jackalope bounded his way to the stage and landed with stile. "So every year, around May, they'd hall him off and shave him and dump him all naked and bare. He learned to live with it he didn't care! He'd just bound bound bound and rebound!"

The sheep's fleece grew back quickly and soon he sparkled again. He landed beside the Jackalope and smiled at the crowd. "Now in this world of ups and downs, so nice to know there are Jackalopes around!"

The two bowed and then slapped their legs at the same time to bound into the sky!

The Jackalope smiled and came to rest beside the Guardians. "Hay Bunnymund!" He greeted!
