Parker ws in the hallway on his way to his next class. He was really enjoying their study of different ways that journalists write. They had studied the differences and similarities between newspaper stories, magazine stories and now were going to look at the difference between radio and television news. Today his class was going to watch the local news and then listen to radio news and compare them.
As he entered the classroom with his friends, he saw the television at the front of the room. He quickly sat down and prepared to enjoy the next hour. As the teacher turned on the television to the local news station, they could hear the newscaster speaking excitedly, for those of you just joining us, we have breaking news from our reporter in the field.
All the students sat up and paid close attention to see what the breaking news was all about. The newscaster was continuing, "We go now to our reporter in the field. Jerry, what's happening?"
Another face then filled the television screen, a man holding a microphone and looking serious. "Well, Monica, as our viewers may remember, I was originally on scene to show everyone one of the historic sites in our capitol, but it seems that something is going on in the building behind me. The local police are here as well as the FBI. It appears that someone is holed up in one of the upper floors of that building," the reporter gestured behind him, "and there were shots fired just a few minutes ago. As we zoom in on the law enforcement officials, maybe we can see what they intend to do."
The camera panned around the area and zoomed in on the officer they could see, a man holding a rifle and looking like he was going to spring into action.
Parker sat up straight and stared at the screen, for a moment forgetting to breathe. Then in a loud voice, said "DAD!. The man on the screen turned as if he heard him, looked into the camera for a moment and then turned to move toward the building, leaving Parker to wonder if this was the last time he was going to ever see his dad.
