Constanze and Sucy were best friends, and known troublemakers. The two of them were known for taking things to an extreme. Left unsupervised, their team up could lead to Luna Nova's destruction.
And that was where their unlikely number three came in.
Diana was Luna Nova's golden girl. The model of a perfect young witch. Even if the adults disapproved of the people she had fallen in with, seeing them as bad influences on the noble girl, they knew it was better not to transfer her to another team. Because without Diana, Constanze and Sucy would cause so much more damage than they already did.
The three of them were the quietest team, though the most destructive. Constanze being either unable or unwilling to speak, Sucy being anti-social and enjoying mostly quiet hobbies (accept in the middle of the night, when Constanze had to throw pillows at her to get her to keep her evil laughter down to a minimum), and Diana just being a quiet person in general.
They shouldn't have worked at all… but somehow they fit together like puzzle pieces.
Currently, the three of them were sitting on a picnic blanket outside. Constanze and Sucy were pouring over plans for their separate parts of their newest scheme, and Diana was drinking tea while reading a book. It didn't look like much, just three girls sitting next to each other, but for three people who rarely showed affection at all it was a big deal.
Diana glanced up at her roommates, watching them for a bit before reaching over to point at a note Sucy had scribbled at the edge of her plans, "A sleeping potion would be better than a neurotoxin. Same result, less damage."
Sucy didn't look up, muttering an answer, "Not as fun though…"
Even as she crossed the note out with a neat line, replacing it with 'Diana said no'.
And after that, it was back to silence. Diana returned to her book and Sucy to her plans. Constanze had never even looked up. It was as if not a word had passed between them at all.
Sucy and Constanze came into the dorm room with their shopping bags. Full of an odd assortment of wires, mushrooms, metal, and glass bottles. Diana was copying her lecture notes by the window, only to look up in response to a tiny grunt from Constanze.
The little German girl was holding out a chocolate bar, which earned her a small smile from the brit as she took it.
"Thank you, Constanze." She looked at the two of them, taking in their expressions from the socially draining experience of spending a day at the market, before adding, "I'll start some tea."
And that's how the three of them ended up sitting on Diana's bed, drinking lavender tea and sharing a single bar of dark chocolate. Diana and Constanze listening to Sucy talk about some of the mushrooms she picked out. She always talked more when she was excited, and even though it didn't show on their faces very much the other two were always happy to listen.
This would likely go on till late into the night, when Diana would finally notice the time and shoo them both to their own beds to sleep. Even as they complained, their faces would have tiny smiles. Without her, they'd probably never get any sleep.
When Akko dragged them off to fight a dragon, Sucy and Constanze knew their roommate would never approve. So they left without telling her. When the dragon tossed them into that little cage, a few of the others pushed to the front to yell at him.
Constanze silently grabbed on to Sucy's uniform, and pressed herself close. Until this point she'd been kicking ass with her guns, and little robots. But now her weapons and StanBots had all been taken away, and she was faced with a dragon. Her face betrayed now of it, but Sucy could feel her fear in the way her hands shook ever so slightly.
The mushroom witch put an arm around the small tech-witch, just to assure her she was there.
When Diana's voice could be heard from outside, however, they looked at each other with seemingly blank expressions before pushing their way to the front to see.
Diana was surprised to see her roommates among those that had been captured, crossing her arms with a small glare, "Girls, I thought you would know better than this. As representatives of Luna-"
Her lecture was cut off by Constanze, who rushed over to hug her. Hiding her face and clinging to her with shaking hands. The green tea haired noble's face softened, and she hugged her back. Sucy shuffled her way over, placing a hand on Constanze's shoulder and making eye contact with Diana. The two of them having a silent conversation.
Diana sighed, and looked at the other girls with what appeared to be annoyance, "I'll leave the rest of you for the headmistress."
With that, she picked Constanze up and started back to the school. Sucy shuffling along behind them without a word.
Diana held out what appeared to be a simple necklace, not making eye contact with Constanze as she spoke, "I made this after what happened last time you lost your StanBot. The other half is small enough you could hide it inside of him, and you can use this to summon him back to your side. Enchantments aren't my strong suit, but-"
She fell silent when the small german took the charm, looking at it for a long time before turning her gaze upwards to meet the taller girl's eyes.
And then she smiled, and made a simple gesture. Since she knew Diana of all people probably understood sign language.
"Thank you."
Diana smiled back, hesitating before putting a hand on Constanze's head, "I just didn't like seeing you like that."
"Ew. Affection." Sucy spoke from where she was sitting on her own bed, but there was a tiny smile on her face.
Diana laughed, "You'll have to forgive us just this once."
"Fine. I'll allow it."
Their laughter wasn't a sound often heard, which only made it sweeter to each other's ears. The moment itself didn't last long, as Constanze went back to fixing StanBot and Diana went to go study by the window. Leaving Sucy to return to her work.
But the warmth from it would leave them smiling to themselves at random moments all through the night, and into the next day. Their team really shouldn't have worked at all, looking at it from the outside. Yet the clicked together as if they were the pieces that had been missing in their lives all along.
