Got this idea while listening to my Rent movie soundtrack and having just watched a certain episode again. I won't give it away until the end. I reccommend that if you have the CD, you listen to Without You as you read this. That being said, enjoy.

I do not own Rent, Stargate SG-1, or anything else for that matter.

Daniel slowly walked through the grass, the rain flattening his hair against his head. He had pocketed his glasses to keep the rain from the lenses. The ground squished with each step he took, making squelching sounds that he ignored.

Without you, the ground thaws, the rain falls, the grass grows…

Without you, the seeds root, the flowers bloom…

The children play, the stars gleam, the poets dream, the eagles fly, without you…

The earth turns, the sun burns, but I die, without you…

Without you, the breeze warms, the girl smiles, the cloud moves…

Without you, the tides change, the boys run, the oceans crash…

The crowds roar, the days soar, the babies cry, without you…

The moon glows, the river flows, but I die without you…

Daniel blinked away some rainwater as he passed over a strip of pavement. Rain slid off of nearby marble buildings. The same thought kept running through Daniel's head: I can't believe she's gone. He had talked with her barely two days ago on Earth and she was happy as could be.

The world revives…

Colors renew…

But I know blue, only blue, lonely blue, within me blue…without you…

Without you, the hand gropes, the ear hears, the pulse beats…

Without you, the eyes gaze, the legs walk, the lungs breathe…

Daniel walked down the hill, absently minding his footing as he walked. The image of her smiling face and warm eyes hung in his vision. He cursed himself for being too afraid to tell her his feelings for her. He thought he still had plenty of time to tell her everything. He had been wrong. Dead wrong.

The mind churns!

The mind churns…

The heart yearns!

The heart yearns…

The tears dry, without you…

Life goes on, but I'm gone…

'Cause I die, without you…

Daniel finally came to a halt in the grass and looked down at the stone marker before him. He ignored the name on the marker and set the flowers he was carrying down on wet grass. He shoved his hands in his pockets, trying to unsuccessfully suppress his rising emotions.

Without you…

Daniel's head bowed as his tears finally escaped and mixed with the rain. He blinked away the offending water and forced himself to read the gravestone: Here lies Janet Fraiser. A true friend and healer. She is missed.

Without you…

Daniel stared at the stone for several more minutes. She didn't deserve to die like that, so far from home… I should have told her how I felt. I shouldn't have been afraid… Why was I so afraid? Sam said Janet was too nervous to admit anything for me… Jack told me how she snapped at that Martice guy… I should have told her…

Daniel bent down and kissed the top of the gravestone. "I love you Janet," he said quietly, willing her spirit to hear his words. The rain lessened slightly and a sad smile formed on Daniel's face. He turned and began heading back to his car.

Without…you…
